Once again Jets fans, TE is a problem for this team with no real standout.

Going into camp, alot of folks felt that Baker was the man- that given his injury last year he would bounce back in '06. I haven't seen it yet- and his supposed blocking prowess just hasn't been there. I remember one play in the Skins game where he completely blew a blocking assignment and there was an open lane for the D player making the sack.

Jolley? He just hasn't shown anything to date.

Dressen? I don't recall seeing anything of him in the 2nd half, but it could be that I just didn't focus on one or two plays he was involved in- anybody catch a look? He's one guy I have high hopes for, as his blocking is just OK but he serves as a downfield threat with great speed and decent size.

Dearth- the best LS this team has ever seen but shouldn't be a TE. LS should be its own position. Has the guy ever made a contribution as TE for this team? I like his value to the team as we all know that a LS can make or break it for you (cough, NY Giants, cough), but I'd like to be able to see the guy contribute in his true position as well.

    Thoughts?

I haven't seen much out of Tight End either, but I'm not really pressing the panic button just yet. We haven't seen enough of Schotty's scheme to know what they are trying to feature, so maybe the TE's aren't active in the passing game.

I could understand if we were plagued with dropped passes/fumbles etc, but the TE's need to at least get the ball before they can make anything happen.

    I'm not worried....yet.

I've seen enough of Jolley, personally. We should give him to Miami for nothing and hope he makes their team.

Mike Patrick thinks Jolley is one of the best TE's in the game. :)

Jolley jumping offsides! Baker missing blocks then not running hard on an out pattern by Ramsey! Kowalewski (sp?) seemed like the most impressive TE in the game, and that's not saying much.

I know we don't have Antonio Gates on the roster, but WTF. Opposing LB's might as well let our TEs go uncovered.

It would have been nice for the Jets to take a decent TE in the mid-rounds of the draft. If nothing else, he could have developed with Clemmens to be a safety blanket as he developed.

This occured to me while watching the Broncos pre-season games. Jay Cutler, who has looked like the best QB of the class so far, has completed at least 1/3 of his passes to Tony Sheffler, a rookie TE. The Broncos even have Cutler and Sheffler rooming together for training camp.

As we all know, the offense lacks playmakers pretty much everywhere. However, I like the idea of building from the O-line out and QB out.

I live in the middle of Bronco country, and that Cutler to Scheffler connection has worked big time over the past two weeks. Looking at the level of play by Cutler vs. Vince Young is like night and day to this point.

On most of the plays where Ramsey got killed, TE's were to blame. Do we have any TE's that can block?

Unfortunately, I do to and Cutler has looked terrific. He has a cannon and has made some throws into tight spots. Sheffler, besides the one drop on the delayed screen has looked pretty good. He had that nice grab on the goal line on Saturday night.

Just read on newsday.com/Tom Rock's blog that the Jets have signed Walter Rasby, a veteran TE...anyone know anything about this guy?

Where's Johnny Mitchell when you need him? Isn't he due for another comeback attempt?

Rebuilding and yes we're rebuilding  takes time. Look to 07's draft for TE to be addressed. Jolley and Baker will be gone after the year.

I predict the TE situation will be featured more this week against the Giants. They are still pretty Vanilla and working the run, some short passes and giving the OL cchance to gel.

His voice is a little Rasby, but other than that, no.

If Pennington is the QB and we're going to throw short routes, than a good tight end would do wonders for this offense.

Maybe that's the problem. They need to get more chocolate.
