And what starts? The bullshit media referring to the Jets as "Tebow and the Jets"? I've never heard such a ridiculous thing. The guy is a backup QB and a personal punt protector and they say "Tebow and the Jets". Fuck this guy.

Think he was talking about the media spin claiming that Rex hedged a bit about Sanchez definitely being the day 1 starter.

I don't think he was hedging on being a day 1 starter... there's no open competition and Tebow isn't going to get the first team reps to even try to unseat Sanchez... And seeing as Tebow's strength isn't in practice... he'd probably lose an open competition in training camp anyhow. Rex is not affirming that there's NO way he has a chance of being a starter this year though... and that's where the door is left somewhat open and members like LongTimeJetsFan, metsnjets and #1JetsFan start having nightmares of Tebow as a starter for the Jets at some point in the future.

Their boy better step it up. This verifies to me that they also brought tebow to light a fire under Sanchez's ass. He is not getting a free pass this year. There is a competent backup behind him. I still think he'll step up to the challenge and have a good year though. But its NO guarantee.

Cool. Other media types "read" his comments a different way, will, Cimini did at any rate:

Let me tell you... whether you think Tebow is good or not, this is going to be an all out circus and full blown controversy. OP is right, that this is just beginning. ESPN coverage of Tebow/Sanchez 24/7 is coming soon. If you think last year in Denver was bad, just wait... because Sanchez actually has fans. Orton didn't. We may even see reports of violence. I say this because the anti-Tebow crowd is so unexplainedly pissed off that I could see one of them attacking a Tebow fan.

    Shits about to get REAL.

The only controversy will be one created in the media and supported by tebois. You can't win a starting QB job lined up at personal punt protector. It's science.

Actually the Jet front office created this controversy when they brought a crappy Qb with a huge camp following to back up a not much better Qb who is prone to inconsistent play.

but there really isn't a controversy, it's an illusion, he's our punt protector.

Tim Tebow getting a ton of reps today for a backup. Not keeping exact count but, given special teams role, probably out as much as Sanchez.

this.the reporter who wrote the article admitted as much.taking rex's ''whatever'' and spinning it like it was an opening.reporters will
keep this a story so they won't have to do any reporting.tis guy probably had the frame of this article done months ago and just had to fill in the quotes
i did like the fact that he referred to the tebots as a cult though.

Exactly, what team puts their backup qb in for ST reps?

    They dont.

Once people stop thinking about Tebow as a QB, this whole thing will make alot more sense.

I'm NOT sure if you are being facetious or if you truly believe what you posted, but I agree with Big Blocker that it was the FO that created the controversy by their actions, and it's NOT just that they traded for Tebow. It's also what they did after the trade that really says, "he's been brought in to take Sanchez's job".

The Jets FO signed former Detroit backup QB Drew Stanford to be the Jets backup QB about a week before they traded for Tebow. Stanford went ballistic when he heard about the Tebow trade and demanded to be traded. If Tebow had truly been brought in to be a punt protector and WC QB, then all the Jets had to do was reassure Stanford that he would still be the #2 guy. Instead, the Jets capitulated like the French Army in WW II and sent Stanford off to Indy toute suite.

IMO, all this talk about Tebow being given snaps in the red zone, being a WC QB, being converted to a HB, being a personal punt protector etc is simply a smokescreen so that the Jets can include Tebow-friendly plays in their playbook with nobody figuring out why they're in there. It's so very devious and crafty, it's almost worthy of the Hoodie himself! NOT.

The media isn't making up crap. The media is simply anticipating what everybody and his brother and sister who isn't wearing green colored glasses and gulping lime Kool Aid by the gallon expects to happen some time during the season: Tim Tebow taking Mark Sanchez's job. It's gonna happen unless Sanchez comes out of the gate playing like Brady, either Manning, and Brees all wrapped into one super QB package. Given the Jets suspect talent on offense and the fact that the Jets will face 3 of the top Ds and 2 divisional opponents in their first 5 games, it's unlikely that Sanchez can pull off that metamorphosis, especially if the Jets "brain trust" actually does give Tebow 20 snaps a game or whatever other dumb-assed bullshit they claim they're going to do.

Except that Tebow is listed as the #2 QB. Moreover, the only other QB on the Jets roster is McElroy. Moreover, the dude is wearing a red jersey.

When do real STers ever wear jerseys that say, "don't hit me cuz I'm the QB"?

You have no idea how wrong you are. NOBODY, including the guys that brought him in think Tebow is ready to play every snap in an NFL game. Otherwise more than 2 teams would have been serious in the bidding for his services. Why is it that the Jets, who lost their wildcat QB, picked up the perfect wildcat QB? Because, thats what they wanted him for.Hhe isn't taking Sanchez' job unless Sanchez goes down.

The real smokescreen is how often they WONT be using him. If Sanchez is on a roll, you think they will stop the momentum to bring tebow in at the 10 yard line? It wont happen unless Sanchez starts faltering in the Red Zone. They figure if the defense has to spend even an hour a week on a Tebow game plan that will help them run the regular offense more efficiently.

    TEBOW is the SMOKE SCREEN.

Right...thats why they got rid of the OC and gave Sanchez an extension.

Your a fool who has fallen for the media BS.

Only way Tebow takes over is if Sanchez gets injured or implodes.
