Sorry if already posted. I didn't see anything/ Jets, Giants Renew Preseason Rivalry Friday By ANDREA ADELSON AP Sports EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Aug. 24) - Even though Eric Mangini is in his first year as Jets coach, he is keenly aware of their rivalry with the Giants . His father was a huge Giants fan. There was little option when it came to what the family would watch on Sundays. "He was my dad, so we watched what he wanted to watch. There weren't a lot of TVs in the house, so I watched quite a few Giants games," Mangini said. "I definitely have an appreciation for the history of the Giants." The teams renew their preseason rivalry Friday night at Giants Stadium, where the Jets will be the home team. The clubs usually hold joint training camp practices in Albany, N.Y., but Mangini scrapped those plans and opted to have a simulated scrimmage in the stadium. So this will be the first time the teams will see each other this year. "I think it's just an exhibition game, playing against a team that just borrows our stadium every once in a while," receiver Amani Toomer said. "You want to let everyone know it's still Giants Stadium no matter what they put on it. We're going to be anxious to play them, and they are going to be anxious to play us." Mainly because both teams have questions to answer. The Jets (1-1) are still trying to figure out their quarterback situation, though it is clear the starting job belongs to Chad Pennington . He is eager to get back onto the field after missing last week's 27-14 win over Washington to be with his ailing father, Elwood, in Tennessee . Of course, Mangini was mum when discussing whether Pennington would get extra playing time, which is usually the norm for starters in the third preseason game. But Pennington will be happy with whatever he gets. "I am excited about getting back out on the field and playing as much as I can and trying to get better," Pennington said. "I've got some work to do, I want to get some things done, nail down some details and fundamentals of this offense that will make us better and make me better as a quarterback. "Now it's really getting down to crunch time as far as the regular season is concerned. We've got to make sure we tighten things up so we're ready to go Sept. 10." The competition for the backup job seems to be much more intriguing. Veteran Patrick Ramsey , rookie Kellen Clemens, and Brooks Bollinger are in a tight race for No. 2, and it will be interesting to see what rotation Mangini uses against the Giants. It also is unclear whether new running back Kevan Barlow will play. The Jets traded for Barlow on Sunday, and he has been limited in practice during the week. Mangini said if Barlow were to play, it would be sparingly. As for the Giants (2-0), they are trying to build on a 17-0 win against Kansas City last week. The first-team offense scored touchdowns on two of their first three series against the Chiefs . Eli Manning will play at least the first half and possibly into the third quarter. "It's a big game," Manning said. "The third preseason game is always the one where you want to go out there and play into the third quarter and you want to play well. This is the final test before the season begins." The starters usually never play more than a series or two in the fourth and final preseason game. Jared Lorenzen will be the No. 2 quarterback, coach Tom Coughlin said, adding he might try to also play Tim Hasselbeck , too. Coughlin would not discuss his rotation for the exhibition finale against New England on Aug. 31. Despite missing one practice with a swollen right knee, linebacker LaVar Arrington expects to play. Arrington, who signed a $49 million contract as a free agent in the offseason, made a short appearance against the Chiefs. "I think we made a big step last week the way we executed against the Chiefs," Toomer said. "We looked and got a feeling that we want to stay on that same page and keep moving forward. We don't to take any steps back because our season is coming up quickly."
OK, that got me a little fired up...I was already looking forward to this game, even though it's still just preseason, but Toomer just put some more wood on the fire...
Haha, I guess Toomer still pissed from when a Jet player told him to make the playoffs first then talk.
i hope in the pregame locker room, Mangini reads that Toomer part to the whole team. i think itll make them really wanna go out there and show who the better NY team really is
Lets get some crazy assed jets fans onto him... Werent there a few stabbing last year when someone bagged pennington
hahaha, what if you read in the newspaper 'Amani Toomer Stabbed multiple times for referncing Giants Stadium'
I hope the Jets knock out Eli Manning for the season by breaking one or both of his legs and/or arms. :manning:
I go into this pre season game with the same expectation as all the others - that all our players walk away healthy.
There really isnt a big time rivarly. We play once every 4 years, and we play preseason games. Yes, we share a stadium and play have NY in front of our names, but other than that it's not really a big deal. It's people who carry their issues from baseball be it Mets and Yankees fans into football that fuel whatever hatred their is. That's classy....
my friend left me a message on my cell telling me he is GUARANTEEING a season ending injury to Jonathan Vilma. this is the same guy who laughed in my face all nite when penny went down in 2003. LETS KICK SOME MUTHA FUKING ASS
I root for both teams though I am a Jet fan first. So obviously, I want no injuries and good performances from both teams. The most important thing to me is the Jets starting offense looks good though.
