I would sacrifice none other than Wayne Hunter himself to bring in a premier rt tackle. Of course the Jets might have to also throw in a pick or a spare cornerback but at least the team we r trading with gets a backup tackle to fill their 4th or 5th tackle spot.
You can hide the RT with good play calling. Flare out a back, put Hill on the right side and make him run 9s. The guy opposite Hunter isn't just coming upfield. A decent OC can make that weakness a strength. Stop panicking.
If we had a decent O coordinator then this wouldn't be an issue right now but it is. Remember the Giants do it with a 4 man rush. If they were rushing 5 then the concern wouldn't be so great. Jets couldn't hide it last season and they can't hide it now.
Gosder cherilus would be ideal. He's an average player but gives you great size for the position. He's also a bit of an enforcer. He likes to mix it up. I think this O-line could use alittle of that.
I would do something like Gosder cherilus for a 4th (preferably a 5th). That would be ideal and something Tanny definitely should explore. If he doesnt, I dont see how he isnt fired next year if we dont do well.
The Lions aren't trading their starting RT and heir apparent at LT when Backus goes for picks unless the picks are really good. I think the Jets are more likely to be talking to them about Corey Hilliard.
Yeah, who wants to really, but when you have WFH at RT, that hole is much bigger than 3rd CB. I dont want to trade him, I would rather try and give up a 4th or 5th rounder, but something needs to be done about RT.
Even assuming they'd trade Revis in a panic move, which is unlikely, the cap effect of trading Revis this year makes a deal impossible unless he's sent with a select group of players who have almost all of their cap impingement as salary in the given year. To even think about trading Revis the Jets have to send Bart Scott along. They have to send Wayne Hunter along. They have to send Brandon Moore along. As good as Darrelle Revis is I doubt that he's good enough to make a team willing to eat the extra salary they'd have to eat for Scott, Hunter and Moore.
Im confused. In a hypothetical situation where we trade revis why would we have to trade other players? Too much cap room?
Because he's got an overhang on the cap of $10.5 million dollars this season. That means when he leaves the Jets by trade the Jets immediately have about $10.5 million added to their cap for the season. His dead money if he were cut is about $22 million but the cost of a trade is just $10.5 million because all that is factored in there is his prorated bonuses and not his guaranteed salary. So to trade Darrelle Revis this season the Jets need to match a lot of that $10.5 million in hits with moves that gain them some space. Otherwise they won't have enough cap room to pay the guy(s) they are bringing in and to make normal moves during the season. In this case the number of moves the Jets can make that have a positive cap effect are pretty limited. They can gain $3 million by cutting or trading Brandon Moore. They can gain $3.152 million by trading or cutting Dustin Keller. They can gain $4.7 million by trading Bart Scott. They can gain $2.45 million by trading Wayne Hunter. They can't cut Scott or Hunter and gain cap space because their salaries are guaranteed. They have to trade them and get somebody to take those salaries onto their cap for the season.
The Lions look like a good partner. Let me tell you, though, unless the Bills plan on keeping 5 tackles, there will be at least one that could come in and start for you right away. Anyway, I mostly wanted to comment on the Jets pieces that would be going the other way. Some issues I've seen in some of the players brought up: -Keller: I agree he's a good trade chip, but he's a free agent after the year. Would he sign an extension with the team he's traded to? I dont see a team giving up a quality, young tackle for a rental player. -Pouha: The guy is above average, but would a nose tackle on the back end of his career (mid 30's) be attractive enough to lure a young tackle? It would have to be an established, good team that is wants to make a run this year and runs a 3-4. Kansas City comes to mind. They drafted Dontari Poe, but by all accounts, he's too raw to start for them this year. They won't trade a starter for Pouha (Albert or Winston), but you might be able to get back a guy like David Mims. I think Kyle Wilson is a great trade chip. Although he hasn't accomplished much, he's been behind Revis and Cromartie. He was a first round pick. Corners are at a premium right now. It also shouldn't hurt the Jets too much as he was only a nickel for you.
no amount of scheming and coaching can conceal the weakness of WFH's magnitude. That dude is just not a starter material. Count the seconds Manning holds the ball. Some will go all the way up to 5. Imagine what could happen with WFH fucking it up at RT spot. Sanchez is down by 2 second mark. If you thought scheming, coaching and play calling could hide this weakness, you're in for a rude wake-up call.
I'd argue that there were many more factors than that that cost us that game. Did you forget Braylon Edwards roughing the kicker, effectively changing a field goal into a TD? That doesn't happen we win 9-6 and Keller's play never happens.
