100% that cowboy game #1.Revis's pick won that one without a doubt. And he shut down dez the second half.
It did, but do you seriously think Kyle Wilson would have shut down Dez Bryant? Second game would be the Dolphins game where Revis created a 14 point swing, intercepting a pass in the EZ and taking it for 7 points the other way. I didn't look at the schedule, but Revis easily saved 3 games all by himself. You've got to consider, even though Revis is ONE guy, without him, the domino effect goes all the way down to where #4 CB and #5 CB would be playing a very significant role without Revis. Kyle Wilson would cover #2 WR, Lankster covers the slot receiver and our no-name #5 CB will cover #3 WR or TE, depending on the play. The domino effect is what changes the entire situation. Now if we were talking about not having Revis, but having another maybe #2 CB instead, the difference wouldn't be AS much. There is a reason he is making $12mil on average, and there is a reason he didn't get traded for tons of picks couple of years ago. A huge part of the defensive scheme depends on him. You take away Revis, and tell me who is a great defender on our D, and would our D still be top 5? I don't think so.
Without the Romo fumble it's game over. Another great game by a cornerback foiled by the fact that great games by the cornerbacks are about as important as great games by the punter in determining who wins and who loses. Maybe less important.
There's never just one person or one play responsible for a win. Even a QB can't do it all himself. Revis is still an integral staple in our D. If he couldn't shut down virtually every elite receiver one on one, our schemes would be far less effective, and far more risky. His ability to do this is one of the main reasons our D has been near the top of the league each year. I really don't think this is deniable. CB is important in a pass heavy league. The Cowboys are starting to realize this as well. Without Revis, we lose practically every close game in the last few years. Key defensive stops in the clutch won many of them or helped propel our comeback. With a stronger safety unit and a D line that puts much more pressure on the QB, his value only gets higher.
As for predicting this year.... 7-9 with Revis. 4-12 without Revis. As you can tell, I don't think I've ever been more cynical about a "good" Jets than this one. Bottom line- 1.We were an 8-8 team last year that didn't do nearly enough to get better in the offseason. 2.Two division rivals made moves to get significantly improve their defenses. 3. Last season's unresolved head-buried-in-the-sand atmosphere + microscope of media circus this year = anticipating one LONG season.
