I am not sure I would say no way, but I would be VERY surprised if he were cut or even traded. He's the only continuity the team has at safety. Safety is a hugely important position on D. Smith is also known by the CS to be a very smart player. He's a hard hitter who is not the fastest player in the league to be sure, but too many here blame him for not seeing to it that the better TE's in the league did not gash the Jets last year. Well those guys gashed a lot of teams. Next!
The Jets used this offseason to sign two new starters and draft 2 prospects at the saftey position. I'm not sure they wanted all that much continuity at the position seeing as it was the most abused part of our D last year. If they like Bush and Allen enough I don't think its hard to cut him. He may know the defense, but lacks the skill to play the position at the NFL level.
Eric Smith is just another guy. If he makes the team, he'll be a backup, and contribute on special teams. If he gets cut, it means that one of the drafted rookies impressed the coaches enough to believe they could do a better job than Smith.
I would be surprised if he gets cut. He adds depth to our safety corps. This might be his last season with the Jets though.
Landry is incredibly injury prone, Bell is old and shifting to a new defense, and Smith is the same guy we've seen for the last few years. None of the 3 can cover for shit. I think that we upgraded our safeties, but it's still a weak position for us (and if anyone gets hurt, then it will become a glaring weakness.)
Saw E. Smith last night (he lives aroung the corner from me) asked him how he was feeling he stated ok . . . . asked if he will be playing next week he stated NO. I DID NOT see him at practice last week and it does not seem he is going being his cars are there when I pass during the day while practice is on. Kinda weird NO? Any thoughts on why he wouldn't be at the facility being treated?
Anybody see Eric Smith limping around the sidelines last sunday, I do not believe he will be back anytime soon. Any thoughts or cares on this?
I didn't see him on the sidelines sunday but I was under the impression he would be playing against the Steelers. Edit: Jets safety Eric Smith will miss Sunday's season opener against the Buffalo Bills, coach Rex Ryan said Friday. Smith is dealing with hip and knee ailments. Defensive tackle Sione Po'uha, who has a back injury, is listed as questionable. Ryan said he "feels better" about both players returning in Week 2. "(Sione's) close. He really is close. He's begging us to play, but I think we're gonna be smart and give it a little time," Ryan said.
Bro his he a player on the team? You don't like or respect him, tough shit. you don't like me tough shit. you know you don't have to write or answer on EVERY post sunshine. Now go change your diaper and shut up. If you are admin on here throw me off if not shut up I could care less what you think and your nonsense your a clown . . . . now go get your shine box
