Oh and forgot to say that I totally disagree with the OP as well. If the game score reflected talent levels, it would have been similar to last week's game. While it wasn't perfect, Rex and Sporano did a hell of a job keeping us in the game and giving their team the best chance to win. As for the onside's kick, maybe he had the D in mind? Just accept it was a smart call given all the circumstances and look deeper than just "it didn't work so it was a terrible call". The D was so gassed at that point another full drive by the Texans would have put them over the edge.
Sanchez had an easy TD to Cromartie that he threw the ball terribly. Tebow had an easy TD but Jason Hill showed why he's a nobody.
So your theory is that after a nearly 12 minute drive by the Texans the defense was so exhausted Rex wanted to get the ball back after the kick return by McKnight because the defense would only be tired for half the field instead of the entire field?
The defense had just gotten off the field. They were hoping to give them a little extra rest. It was the perfect time, because nobody saw it coming. If they waited until the last second, everyone and their mom would know to defend against it. Schillens fucked up the play, plain and simple. It should have worked, but our receivers have issues holding onto the ball.
The announcer saw it coming - the Texans probably had their suspicians. We cant blame a person for missing a ball while they are flying through the air and getting hit. Thats not a fuck up - thats we didn't get extremely lucky.
Actually the Texans middle of their blocking unit were running backwards and had to pivot and go 360 and were late to the ball. I liked the call. The defense was just run over on the last drive and was washed out, McKnight goes and we have some momentum. No problem with the surprise onside And yes, "surprise" onsides meaning not lining up in the onside formation work 50% or above. So playing the numbers is smart. Just like going for it twice on 4th and <1 is smart playing the numbers even with out pathetic run game. I liked the call, Folk executed it brilliantly, Schilles coulnd't close the deal. He was there and he had it. It was beautiful, clearly they practice it before and the Texans were not ready. Unfortunately they missed the execution part of it. Most "experts" I follow on Twitter loved the call and whole heartedly agreed with it
I know we gave up 23. Fuck our defense. Holding them to 3 field goals inside the redzone. fuck our defense.
I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not because I've read a lot of nonsense lately. I dont think you are but just in case I liked our D last night. Foster had some big runs and that needs to stop but after that first drive we played well on D. Holding them to a FG after the bad redzone pick that brought the wall to the 8 was huge. Cromartie played amazing. Kyle Wilson played well. The front 7 was better but I'd still like to see some more impact plays out of them. Harris played better this week.
Yeah, this. The defense goes 13 plays straight from the Texans 6 to the Jets 24 over nearly 8 minutes and stiffens to give up just a FG. McKnight takes all of 10 seconds to run the kickoff back for a TD after a 90 second commercial break. Who really thinks putting the defense back on the field again was the right call in that situation? We really should have let the defense play 10 or 12 minutes straight if they shut the Texans down or maybe 15 minutes straight if we didn't? Rex made the right call there. Schilens just couldn't hold onto the ball. That's the story of the Jets season there in a nutshell.
We had the last possession that would have won us the game and instead of driving down the field the Quarterback turned over the ball. Coaching definitely was questionable at times, especially time management, Rex's worst skill.
how does that make any sense to you? Rex wanted to get the ball back, which means the defense wouldn't be on the field if they got it. you see, getting the ball back inherently means the offense having the ball. the point of the onside kick wasn't to give the Texans the ball at midfield, that was simply the result of not executing it. but Rex did not want to give the Texans offense the ball at all -- that was the point of the onside kick, to get the defense a break after the previous long drive. not hard to grasp.
I agree with you. It felt so good to see our team pull together and play with heart. I thought for sure we were going to get creamed, but we didn't and I'm proud of that. Cro and Tone really played hard. We coulda been a contender, sure, and we coulda used some stickum on a few players' gloves last night, but if we can keep this momentum going we might start winning!
No, the 49er game is where we got out coached! In this game we simply failed to execute. The onside kick was worth the risk , but a major game changer in that we lost all the momentum at that point. The end game is we were basically handed two real chances to win that game , but we are just not a very good football team right now. I hoping for 4-4 by the break.
On the opening drive i saw the texans throw it for more meaningful yards than running it. As a matter of fact the first score was a pass, you know, like the kind of play our offense cant execute because of our lousy pussyfied qb named sanchez. As long as he is our qb we will never be better than mediocre.
