With the amount of injuries that this team has amassed thus far, Keller, Hill, Mauga, Ellis, Revis, Holmes, possible lingering injuies to Mangold and Scott, etc. and the Jets miss the playoffs. Does Johnson give Tanny (I hope Tanny is bounced regardless) and Rex a pass considering this season a wash because of said injuries or does he say screw it and fire the entire FO and CS based on 2011 and 2012 as a collective? Your thoughts?
Better not. This team wasn't going to win more than 10 games with the current roster, and that was going to be because of a perceived easy schedule, and who knows if they had even won 10 games to begin with (maybe after the lucky win in Miami). I'm tired of 8 and 9 win seasons. We don't have Eli Manning to get on a hot streak and bring us Super Bowl's once every four years. There needs to be change all around. The door is closed. Build for 2014.
I hear ya MM. But honestly I'd like to see what Ryan can do with a GM who actually knows how to pick talent. I'd like a GM who instead of wasting picks moving up for the likes of Gholston and Sanchez acquires picks, and builds through the draft and compliments via FA not the other way around. Tanny is garbage and I truly believe he needs to be shown the door regardless.
If you change the GM and expect to keep the HC, it's gotta be someone in house. Anyone in house that you feel comfortable with as GM? I can't think of anyone.
I still think we should move Westhoff to a higher position. There have been quite a few excellent coaches and upper level positions that came from guys who were once special teams coaches, including Bill Bellicheck, who we all know, is great at picking and developing talent. Special Team coaches have to be involved with every aspect of the game. They need to find guys who encompass everything a football player needs to succeed.
If anything you keep Rex but you fire Tanny. You can try to soften th eblow and make in President of the Jets or some BS titel so you have his cap skills, but you need a legit personnel man to handle the draft and free agency next season. The depth on this team is all on Tanny. 42 of the 53 players are of his choosing - so since he has taken over the depth and skill of the team has faltered. That might be because Rex and his staff was so gung ho about ground and pound they just ignored offense ad believed that Greene was legit even though he proved last year that wasn't the case.
Injuries aside. I'll bet you that the majority of the posters on this forum after Week 1 were saying that this team was going to the playoffs and beyond. The problems on this team are institutional. You need to clean house amd start fresh as much as it pains me to say it. If the Jets want to build long term stability (a la the Giants, Steelers, Pats) then they need to bring in a new GM/Head of player personnel who knows the game and knows talent evaluation. I am all for keeping Rex on board with a new GM to see how he does given better talent acquired through the draft and free agency. However I'm not sure that happens ever where a new GM comes in and keeps the same coaching staff in place. Highly unlikely but I would prefer if Rex stays. It'd be great to see Rex stay on as DC and they bring in "Chucky" Gruden as Head Coach.
You know 85, I was in the same mindset of keeping Tanny for his cap skills. But this dude is not a great talent evaluator. Revis and a few others aside, he's made some questionable calls during the draft and in FA. But as MM stated you fire Tanny, RR is a goners.
Tough scenario. I think Tanny is gone regardless but if Rex wins some games the Jets "aren't supposed to" I think he gets another chance. That said I really don't see the Jets beating anyone that would be favored (ie New England @ Foxboro, Seattle or SD).
Absolutely. I could not agree more. I know if Tanny goes, Rex goes. I've been a JETS fan since I was 7 years old that's almost 4 decades. It's been a long arduous road. I have and ALWAYS WILL love my Jets. But Tanny is NOT the answer. This team needs a major overhaul.
I think this sums it up perfectly. 2009-2012 we should have drafted 32 players, 7 rounds times 4 years, plus 4 compensatory....we drafted 21.
Yes it has been a long difficult road ATL. I totally agree that this team needs a complete revamp. You are a true fan and I too have been a Jets fan since I was around 6 or 7. I went to my first game in Shea in 1983 when I was 7 and have been hooked ever since. I hope this franchise builds a foundation and an identity that can endure for many years.
I thought we were there with Parcells. But it's been hit or miss ever since. I think Rex can get the job done with players he actually wants, but Tanny has screwed this team 6 ways to Sunday.
To be honest I don't Rex or Tanny is getting canned whether it's injuries or not. Woody likes those guys for different reasons, Rex because of his personality and Tanny because of his cap skills and saving him money.
