Am I the only one that wants to keep Hilliard over the vastly-overrated John Conner? This is a scenario were we keep two healthy FBs on the roster.
say no to the terminator john conner looks for the big hit and not always the solid block.. yes i would keep hilliard
I have also noticed Hillard making the smart block while Conner looks for the highlight reel. I like both players, Hillard is going to be more effective for this team. But to be honest if they are both healthy and we can somehow. Keep both. Put them both in the backfield and ram it down the other teams throat. Send each of them to clear a hole and direct snap to Tebow and let him pick a side. Just a few examples of how this could work.
Hilliard was a solid, versatile back for Sparano in Miami. I think he can do that here. He gets position on his blocks more rather than always going for the KO. When Conner is healthy, I don't think Hilliard is going anywhere, at least not right away.
I've never been impressed with Conner. Hilliard deserves some playing time after being part of a great performance last week.
I was highly disappointed with Conner's blocking ability - and he cannot catch pass out of the backfield either. Clear win for Hilliard, if I had to chip in.
There's also the fact that he turned a Patented Sanchez Fumble Return for Six into an 8 yard gain against the Texans. That was a heads up play that helped keep Gang Green in it until the end.
getting rid of him might be considered not being able to admit that you wasted a 5th round draft pick (not that a 5th round draft pick matters much)
No, you're not the only one. The minority should be those who want to keep Conner in there. I said it last week and I'll say it again: Hilliard was the third best signing of the season behind Landry and Bell. He's a good player who I was shocked to see get released from Minnesota after their 53 man roster cut down. I think he sticks here for awhile. Conner's as good as gone after the season.
I'll respond to this. Obviously Hilliard isn't Bronco Nagurski, but the bar was set pretty low by Conner and he's exceeded that. I really liked his blocking on sunday. One play in particular comes to mind in which he had a nice seal block springing Greene. If I remember correctly as well, he was brought in to pass block and did a nice job. Admittedly, it helps the perception of Hilliard that Conner is so bad. Hilliard hasn't done anything out of the backfield yet but he's probably more of a threat catching out of the backfield than Conner (4 career catches for 18 yards - in 2 seasons). Hilliard looks quicker, has shown in his past that he can catch the ball out of the backfield and now he's showing that he can block at the same level, if not better than Conner. The fact that he's only been here 2 weeks and we notice him more than Conner's 2 years is a reason why I like him. - The Jets probably still need an upgrade after the season, but to answer your question - That's what I like about him. Lastly, IMO, I don't think the Jets pick up anyone off the street at RB this week for New England. Hilliard was a RB in college, carrying the ball a lot. He also got a good amount of carries early on in Miami. I bet they call up Grimes and go with Greene, Grimes, and Hilliard as their RBs. I wouldn't be suprised if he gets a few of carries this week to spell Greene.
