I just don't see how we can cut these guys and basically give them away for free. I thought that we should have gotten a player, not a pick for Jolley, but Strait and Houston have some value and are guys we could get later round picks for. You don't just forefeit players that are decent enough to make an impact on another team. Mickens is old so I can see him boing cut but then who is the leader in the secondary....Rhodes? We need Mickens' veteran leadership in my opinion, and I still think he can make a play or 2 out there. I'd be shopping Strait around for a 5th rounder, because cutting him loose is just plain dumb...he won't be available long if we do that. Cedric I can see going to be a 3rd stringer on some team, and honestly I think he is a half decent RB that can do some damage if he goes to a team that offers a legitimate padding threat and makes some room for the RBs. I think Ced has 5th or 6th rounder value as well, which kinda sucks though because I think we took him earlier than that. Anyways, I just think giving them away is dumb, and truly I want Houston on the team because he has worked his nuts off for us and deserves to be here as this team improves.
We actually drafted him in the 6th round. Losing Strait and Houston for nothing would be bad I agree. It is possible though.
TUDS: You seems to miss the fact that our FO has turned shit into sunshine thus far with Jolley & Bolly. It is UNREASONABLE to expect to get something or anything for players who are going to get cut. The fact that our FO has been able to get what we have gotten thus far is AMAZING! DARKSIDERS BEWARE!
Houston? WTF? Why? Everytime this kid has stepped on the field he's looked good. Why the hell would we cut him?
i think it's just a ploy to light a fire under these guys a$$es to work even harder... i seriously doubt houston and straight get cut
I would hate any of those guys getting cut. Cedric Houston has done NOTHING to warrant him getting cut. Strait is a nice depth dime back. Mickens' roster spot, in my opinion, should be reserved just for his depth and veteran leadership that he can provide to our young secondary. I don't agree with any of those if they were to happen.
All 3 seem like solid depth players that we should keep around. Houston has always looked better than Blaylock. And getting rid of Strait AND Mickens? Why would you want to deplete our secondary depth like that?
yes, he does, and he recognizes talented DB's when he sees them. the fact that Strait was a passed-physical away from being gone should say something. cheers
I dont think we should cut any of them. I think we should definitley keep Houston. He played ok last year after Curtis got Hurt. Barlow and Blaylock are not the future of this team. There just quick fixes for this year. I think Houston could be a solid backup RB and if there is no spot for him on the Jets roster then they should try to trade him not cut him.
Maybe I have missed something, but in all the times I have seen him, he's never been anything other then servicable, IMO. I just don't get the love affair with him.
Someone has got to get cut. This is the new FO, they don't hold any allegiance to any of the old picks....even if it means throwing those old picks away. We should package Houston and Strait to get picks though if they're going to get cut. Houston does have a little bit of a fumbling problem though it seems.
I don't think we got much for Jolley, and losing him means we can forget about going deeper than 10 yards to the TE.... You can;t deny that Houston and Strait do have some value. So, why release info that they might get cut if you can shop them around till Sundaym, as we must be able to get at least a 6th or 7th for them....
These guys will bring back nothing at this point. Straight has had plenty of opportunites, something must be wrong with him - maybe he cant grasp the system? Houston is OK, nothing special. Mick is 1 season away from retirement.
Me too. When the Jets were going to get Suggs I kept seeing that one run where he takes the delayed handoff and cuts across the field outrunning everyone. Everytime I see Houston he runs for a couple of yards and gets gang tackled. I've never seen him outrun people, or fake out the first guy a la vintage Curtis. What is so good about him?
Our best option may be a trade of our surplus player at one position for someone elses surplus at another.
