Now that the preseason is over I pose the question to everyone. Who gets the ax? I think Houston and T. Johnson both saved their jobs tonight with great performances. Personally, I don't think that Houston should have ever been a bubble player as I liked what he did last year behind a TERRIBLE O-Line. Also I think T. Johnson has made a lot of progress and looks much better on the outside then he ever did at DE. Let me know what everyone thinks.

If we keep Houston, do you guys think all the rest of the Running Backs make the team? What if Curtis doesn't retire or go on the IR? We can't have 5 Running Backs so who is gone? Barlow? Blaylock? I'd think Washington is a lock if only for his Kick Return ability.

Well when, or if, Curtis Martin is ready to return, a release will be made probably based upon who has performed the worst until that time.
My guess is it will be Derrick Blaylock.

i think askew is gone, I could be wrong, but i don't think he played at all tonight. i think at rb well have blaylock, barlow, houston, washington, and martin at fb. I won't include martin, b/c as stated already when the decision comes after 6 weeks we'll find out what happens with his status then.

I don't know if Askew is going to make this team either. He is a little to inbetween being a true fullback and a true running back.

Maybe then, but for now I think we will keep all 4 RBs, Houston and Washington have both played well and Mangini has praised Blaylock for his preseason, and we traded a pretty high pick for Barlow. The question will be who gets the bulk of the carries and who gets the least number of carries.

i would agree with you, but in this instance I don't believe that askew showed enough yet to mangini before or during this game to have the status of a starter. then again, maybe to mangini he did. this site and jets' announcers believed askew was on the bubble, so too me that meant that he hadnt won the job yet.

Does a converted college QB really count?

In all seriousness, Askew will make the team and will start simply due to his versatility. He can play RB or FB and can catch the ball. Martin might make it simply as an extra blocker, but I can't in all seriousness see Tutt sticking on the team. PS maybe, but not the active roster.

No - but he's probably slightly better than the other 2 which isn't saying much at all. I would rather the Jets take their chances with Martin, or even trying Houston out at that position. Askew is an absolute bust IMO - he's done nothing since he's been here. Maybe they could pick up someone else after the cuts? At any rate, I say this is the cut that should be made as far as the running game goes.

We can always hope Sowell gets cut from TB and comes back.

    No thanks....

Schottenheimer wants a blocking FB, and Sowell is not that.

I don't know, didn't he block pretty well when Curtis won the rushing title? I've always liked Sowell....
