Tom Gamble is the 49ers Director of Player Personnel. He is being linked with the Jacksonville GM job. Gamble will probably be linked to other openings in the next few weeks. I was looking at his resume. He is a Rich Kotite guy. Gamble worked for the Eagles when Kotite was there. Kotite brought Gamble with him to the Jets. http://www.49ers.com/team/staff/tom-gamble/17f5afbb-6679-4250-bc18-6bfb470bb433 Tom Gamble, an Eagles scout and son of team president Harry Gamble, has taken a job on the coaching staff of Rich Kotite's New York Jets. Gamble will be responsible for quality control, analyzing opposing teams, and helping coaches prepare game plans based on his evaluations, he said last night. "It was an opportunity to get involved in another aspect of this business, with people you ended up working so closely with before," he said. http://articles.philly.com/1995-01-24/sports/25713779_1_kotite-eagles-assistants-jets-job Would there be a backlash from Jets fans if the Jets hired Gamble to run their football operations because of his Kotite connections?
Gamble would be a good fit. They just need a new voice in the FO. Bradway needs to be shown the door. Truthfully i wouldn't even mind Gene Smith from Jax. He is known for having a good eye for talent.Jax's issues are much bigger than personnel/scouting.
Gamble has done a pretty good job over there in San Fran. Time for a breath of fresh air. A lot of good personnel guys are currently over in the NFC conference.
Jets should keep options open.. i would say Gamble is a candidate. SF has found good personnel in recent years. The Jets need a real football guy to make the key strategic decisions in terms of direction. Also needs to be a strong enough personality to keep Woody at bay, and sometimes say no to Rex. I would like the Scouting dept held accountable, and maybe shaken up as well. Lots of tough decisions ahead. i know Polian a bit old, but is he a potential candidate?
Isn't Terry Bradway supposedly in charge of personnel? Wasn't he supposedly good at it which is why he was retained after being demoted from GM in favor of Tanny?
Eric DeCosta is another top candidate. Young guy. 41 years old. The Ravens have been one of the top teams in the AFC year in and year out. Tom Gamble would probably look to hire Frisco OC Greg Roman as his HC. Roman was with Harbaugh at Stanford and now with the Niners. Roman likes to run the ball. I was reading WR coach John Morton designs the passing game. The QB coach designs the red zone offense. Roman is in charge of the running game and the overall game plan. Morton has worked with Norv Turner,Sean Payton and Pete Carroll at USC. Morton could follow Roman as OC or replace Roman as OC. Morton was USC's OC for 3 years. WR coach for 2 years.
From what I've read DeCosta's wife is from Baltimore and they're pretty entrenched there. Not saying it's impossible, but would require Woody to really open up the wallet to get him up here.
The Ravens exec would be good, he'd prob keep RR. There would be continuity and a fresh mind. Bradway and the scout dept should be canned.
Well we have come full circle - the current ineptness reminds me of the kotite years and now we have to entertain the idea of hiring someone from the kotite tree. Oy let's bring back joe Walton while we're at it.
Yeah, God forbid the Jets hire anybody with any experience. They haven't hired a GM or head coach with any experience over the last 12 years, why start now? We all know how well this plan has worked out. Or maybe it's just that nobody with any experience would want to be within 1000 miles of this place.
The raven fellow sounds good,,Gamble does not sound bad,,,,,the Jets and their fascination with the patriots could make Scott Pioli a possible choice that I personally would not hate,,,,,,any thoughts as he is as good as gone along with Romeo
