Didn't see this posted, but with talks breaking off yet again just 12 hours before the imposed deadline this deserves a look. Per PFT, the results of an uncapped year:

How insane is is? Upshaw said if a deal wasn't completed by tonight that the NFL would move into a capless state for the rest of Eternity. I don't believe that to be true. Something tells me that we might be looking at a capless 2007, but beyond that we're going to see a lockout followed by a return of the athletes possibly making less than they are now - with upshaw collecting unemployment checks.

The one question I have is would restricted free agency system be the same as it currently is (with the tender offers)? If so, the sudden allure of an uncapped year for the players looks quite small to me.

Wow. We haven't started 2006 and we are talking about 2007. I hope it gets done. Say what you will about the current situation but it did enough for the game to get me watching almost 30 years ago and has kept me a fan since. Keep it like it is. There is no sport like football.

"With some teams in dire cap shape, we could see sooner than later just how wide the commissioner's latitude is. The Washington Redskins are one team to watch in this regard, since some other clubs that have studied the Redskins' cap closely have suggested Washington cannot mathematically get into compliance." from ESPN page

This says the Skins cannot mathematically get under the cap? Man I love it. Daniel Snyder is a total scumbag cocksucker.

He'll probably nail them (he can strip them of picks for how many years he wants its up to him to decide) since they are one of the few causing the holdup. The CBA is pretty vague in that regard of what can and can't be done. Basically I believe it just says they hold the right to fine and strip draft picks. But it doesn't specify how little or how much.

Look on the bright side. If we go uncapped, we sure is hell aren't making the playoffs so we should be able to sign a few of the decent players that are actually able to make it into UFA. Plus we should be picking high (think Quinn) next year.

The glory years of the NFL peaked with the Patriots dynasty. We're on the way down folks...
