    Bingo!!

The fact that Jones is still available in this mock and he chooses Mingo is beyond me. I don't give a shit if the guy ran a slow 40. His tape does not lie and his production is off the charts. The guy led the nation in sacks. He was also cleared of ever having that spinal injury. If we don't take Jones if Jordan is gone at #9, I will be furious!

  2. So in your world Vernon Gholston was a no brainer pick back in 08? He was all everything & still holds OSU's all time sack record. Just as one can become over enamored w/ triangle numbers..the same can be said w/ college production.

As I mentioned in my earlier post..when it comes to college linemen..it isn't always in the stats. Such is certainly the case w/ Mingo. He routinely caused QB's to step up,occupied multiple blockers, & opened lanes for teammates as you made mention in the above.

Would it make the process of evaluating him a helluva lot easier if he had 20 sacks in college?Of course it would. But the guy can hit the edge at an elite level. That's what pays at 3-4 OLB in the NFL & that's what the Jets lack more than anything.

There are options I like better than Mingo..for sure. But he is viable & would fill a long time need for this team.

As for him being a project?Maybe as a 3 down player. But he can flat out rush the passer day 1.Bring him along slowly using him in 3rd downs/sub packages..let him put his hand in the dirt & come around that edge. Year 2 he's 10-15 lbs heavier & you've got a plus young hybrid on your hands.

I'd take Jarvis Jones over every other pass rusher in this draft, and possibly over every player in this draft. I don't care about his 40 time.. he produces on the field against one of the toughest conferences in College Football.

B/c it is retarded. If Dion Jordan is gone, we take Jones. If Jones is gone, we take Jordan. If both are gone, we take Ansah. Mingo should NEVER be taken that high. NEVER.

Dion Jordan is arguably the best pass rusher in this draft, but Jones is a beast. Like stated above, he plays in the toughest division in college and led the nation in sacks. The guy outright performs. We need a guy like that to have an immediate impact.

See the guy in the video knew all along about Sanchez. As you can see though he was really rooting to draft Tebow. He already had his jersey on.

Mingo is this years Bruce Irvin. The teams that pass on him will be kicking themselves in 48 months.

That being said, Jordan and Jones are better fits for this defense IMHO, but who knows what the Jets brass prefers.

well it appears as though there are people who disagree with you. the nice thing is that none of your opinions really matter.

i used to get all fired up for the draft oh man i hope we get this guy i hope we get that guy...

its a silly thing to get to into. normally you arent right, normally you dont know enough about anything to make a determination and normally things dont fall just how you want them. its usually best to just sit back and enjoy

Happy everyone knows Mingo will bust already, might as well not even play football since he had a terrible NFL career

If we pick Mingo I'm good with it, why?

    Wilkerson
    Coples
    Wilson
    Davis
    Ellis

Rex knows defense and if he thinks Mingo is a stud then I'll back him every step of the way

    You guys are the idiots.

Guys like Cimini and Mehta have a responsibility to attract readers. That means on days when there really isn't 'news' they are supposed to : speculate...offer opinions....stir the pot....report legitimate gossip...report illigitimate gossip....anything to attract viewers.

While all of us have jobs and spend a few hours a day (maybe) following the Jets and the NFL, Cimini has been covering the Jets for the better part of 4 decades. While I don't like EVERYTHING he writes, he does know his stuff. I think if he didn't know his stuff, he wouldn't have lasted as long as he did.

Disagree with their rationale all you want -- but stop with the personal attacks. Would YOU guys want to be attacked at your jobs if you had them for 25-30 years ???

Gholston was absolutely a no-brainer pick in 2008. The 6 pick was no-man's land that year and the Jets needed a pass rusher. Gholston was considered the best value on the pick but with a high bust potential. I never held that pick against the Jets in a vacuum because I didn't see anything else they could do with it but trade down and nobody wanted to trade up.

The Jets are looking for two things in an OLB in this draft: a pass rusher and a guy who can cover speedy backs out of the backfield. Mingo hasn't proven he can do either of those things. How can he be a good pick on the 9 when he hasn't proven at the college level that he can do the very things the Jets are going to ask him to do at the next level in the NFL? He's not even a LB, he's a DE.

How does that work? Fantasy football?

You want to know why I want Jones over Mingo? Because Jones played OLB and rushed the passer very well in college. That suggests he has a leg up on doing those things at the next level.

Chance Warmack or Cordarrelle Patterson. I would also like Geno if he falls to us. A defensive pick does NOT help our biggest problem.

And of course the Jets await Cimini's choices before they make their own decisions.

I wouldn't mind getting Mingo as long as Rex has a say in it. With his approval I'd accept anyone.

I'd still take Jones over everyone though.

He was 0 for 8 on run plays and got stomped/man handled on those plays, or whiffed at the RB in the back field. Good pass rusher, but zero in run support...thought I was watching Maybin for a while there.

This is an exact critique I hear about this guy constantly. He is terrible with run defense. This team was pathetic against the run last year. The last thing we need is another guy who can't stop it.

Jarvis Jones is and has been my pick for a long time. The guy gets in the backfield almost every play and can stop the run. Great all around LB and just like above, arguably the best player in this draft. If Jones is there at 9, you take him. No questions asked.
