On both post games he was left out of their "top performers" or "passer of the day" segments. Coming off 2 shoulder surgeries, throwing for over 300 and 2 TDs with no interceptions isn't one of the top performances of the week??? I usually couldn't care less about this sort of stuff but I just feel like he deserves some attention for such a great game.
Oh, I know, but his individual performance was outstanding. He even rallied for a late winning touchdown drive after a fumble at his own goal line.
http://sports-att.espn.go.com/nfl/weekly In the 4 statistical categories highlighted by ESPN on their NFL page, Jet players lead 2 of them. Pennington had the most yards and the highest QB rating (by a margin of ten points), and Coles had the most receiving yards. I havent watched any highlight shows today, but if theyre ignoring these two guys after their performance today, thats pretty retarded.
I think these analysits(sp?) get paid to NOT talk about the Jets. It's a shame Chad didn't get any praise for his performance today. -Came back after 2 shoulder surgeries. -No interceptions thrown. -He had 2 rookies on his o-line protecting him and he didn't get sacked.
We are still a little rough around the edges. I think we should have beaten them 23 - 7, figuring we would have probably not tried to make it 30. Our running game still needs a lot of work. Brad Smith continues to amaze me. We have to get him into the game more. All in all today was a good way to start the season and we were very much improved over our start last year.
yeah I was stunned too not to see Chad among the players of the week. It is a great week 1 story in the NFL. A player who has had so many questions about him really comes up big. Ah well. Maybe the NFL will recognize him as the player of the week!
Charlie Batch has the highest QB rating. http://sports-att.espn.go.com/nfl/weekly?year=2006&seasonType=2&week=1&type=pass&sort=qbrat
The thing that bothers me is that yeah, we only beat the Titans. But I am listening to Howie "Duke Nukem Haircut" Long saying how Donovan McNabb answered a lot of questions...against the texans....coming off hernia surgery....Chad deserved some mention..
The Jets are a team whose own fans don't even expect them to win more than 6 or 7 games and they beat a Tennessee team that is probably hoping to land Paul Posluszny with a top 5 pick next season. So forgive the media for not caring about this game. Whatever respect the Jets get this year needs to be earned.
Thats ok. He's obviously on a mission. Let him do this for 6 or 7 straight games, and they'll have no choice but to respect him.
Okay, I really didn't care about this, but the comments at halftime of the Giants game were ridiculous. They showed only the last TD, and then someone (the ex-player that isn't Bettis) said "I haven't seen Chad Pennington look this good since the Super Bowl years." Everyone else laughed, and Bob Costas said "When were those, exactly?" What exactly was the point of that, other than to ridicule the team on a day they won?
i just heard that comment...uncalled for....lets go out there and do the same thing to new england next week and forget about the media...we are going to shock the world this year
How do you know they aren't? Do you have a crystal ball. Every year in the NFL is different. The Jets, Falcons and Eagles were Super Bowl contenders before last season, while Chicago and Miami were predicted to be terrible. If you said at this point last season that Chicago was better than Philly, you would have been laughed off the board. So before you criticize the win, let's let the year play out. In any event, the Jets won on the road against that was favored to beat them and our weak-armed QB whose career was finished and who was only keeping the position warm for Clemens led them to the win.
