I was initially disappointed in the pick. why pick sheldon richardson for one of the only positions that we dont have glaring holes in. aside from the fact that he was BPA-according to jets that is- another way to look at it is from the perspective that we have a LOADED front line. wilk, coples richardson, ellis...could be start of something special as they all come into their own.
The Giants had a QB, and RB's, TE, and receivers. You know the other side of the ball the Jets management (and fans) seem to forget?
Rome wasn't built over night. Drafting need over value is what gets teams in trouble to begin with. BPA works.
Yes I do think of those teams. The perfect storm situation bc the one team their defense is good against, they twice get to face in the SB. and by they I mean the team with an already built OL, running game, and an elite QB that had the luxury of picking another DL. Comparing us to where the Giants were is ridiculous.
But to begin to build Rome at some point you have to make an effort. You can't keep drafting defensive linemen and corners 1st round every year while your offense is the worst in the NFL. Chance Warmack was available at 13 as was Eifert, both huge needs, and excellent talents. Eifert will be a leader and a beast in the NFL. I see this as Rex making the picks, Rex trying to have a top 10 defense to save his backside. "Look at my defense, it's great, not my fault Sanchez stinks". Yet the defense is good because he's put everything into the defense and completely abandoned the offense.
First of all Warmack wasn't available at # 13 & Eifert didn't go till the 20's so clearly most teams didn't feel he was worthy of a top 15 selection. I think you're reading too much into the Rex dynamic. This was about draft grade. Not saving anyone's job or building the team any which way. This was about adding top end talent. Were corner & DL ideal? No. But the Jets aren't in a position to pass on top talent & at the very least CB/ DL are 2 positions you can stock pile talent, build elite units & carry a franchise in the process.
I also cursed this pick but settled down and thought about it. We know have a positional group that we are elite at and d line is a great position group to be elite at. The Giana comparison is good because they are the reason that patriots couldn't put up points and put Brady on his ass. And yes at the same time giants had an offense and we currently don't. But there are still 6 more picks to be made and remember we now have a true and proven offensive coordinator. To me he will be the greatest addition to the team this year. Back to the d line. Having this group elite will only strengthen our linebackers and secondary(which is also another strong group) Defense will be back to elite form
Milliner is little and weak, he will get bullied in the NFL, he isn't with a top program who has constant pressure on the QB either. He has two shoulder surgeries. Who cares that Eifert was taken at 20's? Guy is exactly the type of player the Jets need. Richardson has one year starting and he's small and doesn't fit our scheme at all. If they were going BPA then Star or Shariff Floyd should've been taken. Literally no one understood the Richardson pick, and I simply hate the Milliner pick. Four reps at 225 LMFAO, I could do 4 reps at 225 in the 9th grade. Revis was strong and couldn't be bullied by bigger receivers and TE's, Milliner will be abused, and he's clearly made of glass, guy won't even make camp.
Mike Greenberg said it best, don't have the exact quote but along the lines of "The Jets and Rex Ryan don't seem to realize that for half the game they possess the ball."
Bingo. Eifert was the best tight end available and fit a huge need, offensive playmaker. I think the 13 pick could've been used much better by drafting Eifert.
How many times have we heard 'It starts up front'??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
