http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...s-dansby-jets-texans-falcons-interested-in-me In summary: Dansby says the Jets are interested along with the Falcons and Texans. He's already visited the Cardinals, Bengals and Bills with no deals. On the cheap, this would be a steal. But will he come cheap?
One year deal at a reasonable price or no thanks. The Jets do not need to add a multi-year asset who is 31. For a rebuilding team that asset is a liability.
He's not going to come cheap, otherwise he'd already be employed with one of those teams listed that he visited.
Considering the season he had last year, he's seeking more than just a one year deal. With the state of the team the way it is, they're better off giving Demario Davis the season to start and grow
Not unless we pay more than the other teams. This guy has a history of going for the money. We need to avoid bidding wars, but I like that Idzik is being active and bringing guys in to attempt to strengthen the roster. The Jets are weak at ILB.
I like him on a one-year veteran minimum. Otherwise, I think Harris and Davis are serviceable. He was a beast though.
I can't imagine why the Jets would be interested..they don't have any money at all and he doesn't fit the mold of what they are trying to build right now. My guess is it's just talk to create a market.
The Jets are interested because Karlos Dansby is a good ILB. The interest is likely limited by the fact that he's just a good ILB and he's at an age where players slow down suddenly and unpredictably. On a 1 year $2 million deal he'd be a good gamble. I'm guessing that's not going to happen though. He's going to be looking for more than that and at a premium he's not worth the gamble for a young team that needs to give reps to young guys.
He's not coming cheap. He reportedly wants a multi-year deal with guaranteed money. He hasn't gotten that from the Bills or any team listed above. Either he or a team needs to cave.
He's 31. He's not getting a multi-year deal with guarantees. If he really wants to maximize his value then he waits until camps open and sees who gets hurt. The downside on that strategy is if it's a healthy year for ILB's he's basically going to be retired.
I'm not so sure about that. There are a lot of teams interested (6? 7?) and he really is the only player out of the other free agent linebackers that can actually start some games and play an important role for a team. If I were him, I'd do exactly what he's doing and I bet a desperate team will cave (and I'd support the Bills doing it). It'd be different if there weren't much interest in him (in that case, you take what you can get), but teams have lined up for him. I just think one of them will give in eventually.
Any team that gives a 31 year old LB a multi-year deal with guarantees is asking for problems. Also, I think the process is supporting the teams more than Dansby. If there was a multi-year deal out there don't you think somebody would have offered it already? We're far along in the process for any real offer to materialize. If teams were offering him multi-year deals but at the wrong money we'd be hearing that. Instead we're hearing that they're offering him limited deals and he isn't biting.
I guess it depends on the team/situation. The Bills have a lot of cap room left and a need for a veteran presence at inside backer. I'd have no problem with the Bills giving him 2 years and a small amount of it guaranteed. If you're a team that doesnt have much cap room, or has other veteran guys at the position where Dansby won't be terribly needed, then it wouldnt be such a smart move.
Really amazing how quickly things can change. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2013/05/former_dolphins_lb_karlos_dans.html He's 31 years old & I'm sure he knows this offseason is likely his very last opportunity to land multi-year deal before retirement. With Idzik handing out all these 1-year deals, I think he signs elsewhere. Now if all suitors only offer one year deals, then Jets will have their shot to bring him aboard.
The Bills are also stupid enough to give an aging linebacker a multi-year deal with guaranteed money. I'd almost rather see them give Dansby three and twenty than the Jets get him for one and five.
