Apologies if this has been posted before...

From NFL.com, "Tuesday typically is the NFL's busy day, with teams conducting tryouts for free agents. And many teams were at it again today, most notably the Jets, who went in search of a kicker to replace Mike Nugent.

The Jets worked out three kickers -- former Minnesota Vikings veteran Paul Edinger, former San Francisco 49er Owen Pochman, and former Boise State standout Tyler Jones.

But the Jets didn't look only at kickers. They also worked out former Cleveland wide receiver Frisman Jackson, former Cardinals running back James Hodgins and former Packers guard William Whitticker."

It also says that Miami has worked out Charles Rogers.

Redicuolous. He has 1 bad game, and they have thoughts of replacing him? If they do I'll be extremely upset.

i seriously doubt they're replacing him already. Nugent is probably the only guy this past Offseason who faced no competiton. so now they're creating some.

    cheers

    Three words: C.Y.A.

I think this is to have some names in Tanny's Rolodex in case Nugent keeps kicking the ground first.

To all those in the Nugent poll thread about bringing in another kicker who said doing so was stupid...told you so :)

Great move. I would have been pissed if this had not happened immediately. Thank you Mangini for being the anti-Herm.

No more attaboys and hugs for screwing up. Did you notice the difference when Nugent missed? Mangini looked mad as hell, Herm would have just looked stunned and stared off into space, clueless with his jaw hanging open.

Paul Edinger and Owen Pochman aren't competition. Nugent had an awful game, but if the Jets cut him and make Special Edinger the new kicker I'll go beat up Tannenbaum myself.

Mike "Brett Conway II" Nugent had bad games last season, too. He needs to shape up pronto.

Can't hurt. Hopefully it challenges Nugent a bit.

OMG THEY DONT WANT TO REPLACE HIM. THEY'RE TRYING TO LIGHT A FIRE UNDER HIM! THEY'RE NOT EVEN THINKING ABOUT REPLACING HIM! IT'S HIS FIRST GAME IN HIS SECOND YEAR. HE HAD A BAD DAY! THIS ISN'T EVEN REAL COMPETITION. I HIGHLY DOUBT THEY'LL WASTE A SPOT ON GETTING A BACKUP KICKER AFTER ONE BAD GAME! MAYBE IF TOM BRADY HAS A BAD GAME THEY'LL REPLACE HIM THEN WE CAN PICK HIM UP IN FREE AGENCY! (im sorry for the caps but this is just really frustrating me)

Isn't Edinger the guy that stands facing backwards? We need a kicker, not a ballroom dancer.

Isn't Edinger the same guy who went 3 for 8 from 30-39 yards last year. Oh yeah, his percentage was lower than Nugent's rookie season and he kicked in a dome. The kid from Boise State...is I believe the same one that Nugent dominated for the Groza. I agree this is just to piss him off and I'm sure it has done just that. However, if Nugent is on his game these guys don't stand a chance of beating him out. If he isn't then they will probably let him go anyway...so it really changes nothing.

They are just trying to light a fire under his butt...If he wants to clean his slate he just needs to be more consistent. If he had missed two 53 yard FG's people wouldn't be as concerned. Missing two 30 yarders and a XPT is not acceptable and that is the statement they are making by doing this.

THANK YOU. This is called accountability, and thats why I love Mangini. I grew very sick and tired of those "go get em next time" pats on the back by Herm. This is the NFL, its serious, and there are only 16 games to make your mark. A kicker doesn't have that much to do, but kick. No excuses. I would have cut him on Monday. Plus, all the hype about Nugent is annoying, frankly, I don't think he has that strong a leg to begin with. I don't seem to see too many touchbacks deep into the endzone on kickoffs. I'm all for bringing in someone who can make a friggin 33 yarder without kicking dirt. Plus, you could tell he was rattled bad. Looked like a baby deer in the headlights after the misses. Not the kind of body language that instills much confidence.

Oh my God wow. We brought in Paul Edinger Tyler Jones and Owen Poachman in for a look. I guess Ola Kimrin, Cary Blanchard and Jose Cortez were all booked up. Look its a symbolic move by Mangini and a message to Nugent to get his act together, but to even consider one of these scrubs kicking for the Jets is rediculous unless Nugent has another terrible outing. Even then I think Nugent would get every opportunity to win his job back and not be outright released.

I don't think they are replacing him, they are just sending a message to him.

Nugent needs to have a fire lit under him. What better way to do that then you seeing your possible replacement.

Some of you are hilarious. Nugent got rattled and lost his fundamentals under pressure, trying out kickers will not help/hinder him. The organization's duty is to see what else is out there, and do what is best for the team.

As for Nugent, the best thing he can do now is take it all in; the negativity, the disappointing feeling of letting your teammates, coaches, and fans down, the beating he's taking from the press....etc. I'm sure being the all-world kicker from college he's never had to deal with this level of ridicule before and I think we will get a good look at how he responds to all this in the coming weeks.

I think he'll use this entire experience, not just something like trying out replacement kickers, as motivation to get back on track. Kicking is not something you can do well though effort alone, he needs to keep his cool under the pressure. He'll bounce back from this, but not b/c of some replacement kicker tryouts.

Is Blaylock going to respond now that we are trying out James Hodgins? <_<
