Coples at #8. This bumps the mystery person into the top 7. I figured Coples would be 6 or 7. Ellis & Pace definitely shouldn't be ahead of Coples. I'm looking forward to big things from Coples this year. It took him a little while to catch on to the defense last year, but once he did, he was in beast mode!
i feel like i am missing someone obvious in the top 7. as far as coples, i thought he would be 6-7. i don't think his ability to cover t.e.s is going to be an issue. rex is going to move him around to get mismatches so much. if he is over a t.e. the t.e. will probably be staying in to help out on the edge. i look forward to our first 10+ sack guy since Abraham. pace for #7?
With Coples at 8, the 'mystery man' becomes even more confusing. There is no way Ellis/Pace is ranked higher than Coples. A refresh of the easy choices in no particular order: Cromartie Mangold Ferguson D. Harris Holmes Wilkerson Watch Costello is going to go with a cheap trick and put Rex/Idzik in the #1 spot with something like, "While technically not a player..." It has to be something stupid/clever like that, because there simply isn't a player on the roster that fits.
Maybe the mystery player in the top 7 is Malone or Folk? Otherwise Idk.... either way I'm sure I won't agree with the player ranked ahead of Coples. Sent from my Galaxy S4 via Tapatalk
Bro! I hope you enjoy your S4 like I enjoy mine. But signatures like that are either braggadocio or ignorance. Nobody cares what phone you have. This forum is for opinions. And if you have any sense, turn off Smart Pause ASAP.
Oooo. I forgot about both of them. I suppose it's possible. Pace was #10 last year, when Revis, Pouha and Moore were ranked higher, so it's essentially like staying the same. It almost has to be Pace, but I'd highly disagree and would definitely throw Malone or Folk in the mix. I could see that since the majority of our offense came from field goals and we had so many damn punts last year. NY Post would totally put that up to take the piss.
Here's last year's list for those interested: 25. Jeremy Kerley 24. Wayne Hunter 23. Eric Smith 22. Joe McKnight 21. Aaron Maybin 20. Mike DeVito 19. Bryan Thomas 18. Matt Slauson 17. Yeremiah Bell 16. Muhammad Wilkerson 15. LaRon Landry 14. Tim Tebow 13. Shonn Greene 12. Bart Scott 11. Mark Sanchez 10. Calvin Pace 9. Dustin Keller 8. Antonio Cromartie 7. Santonio Holmes 6. D'Brickashaw Ferguson 5. Brandon Moore 4. Sione Pouha 3. David Harris 2. Nick Mangold 1. Darrelle Revis Wayne Hunter at 24 and Eric Smith at 23 lol. Tebow ranked higher than Landry and Wilkerson is hilarious.
The fact that Kerley was at the bottom speaks volumes. He had already proven to be a commodity far greater than the 10 players ahead of him.
Calvin Pace at #7 actually makes sense. He is one of the few pieces the Jets have that is proven and effective with no questions as to immediate performance. He is 32 though and this is 50/50 to be the year when that becomes obvious. That 12 pick draft next year couldn't have come at a better time.
Thanks and I got no idea what to do with it other than post and read lol Sent from my Galaxy S4 via Tapatalk
I was going to make a negative comment about Pace being so high on this list until I realized he is 3 spots higher than last year and 4 of the guys who were above him are no longer on the team. Guess he technically dropped 1 spot lol
Yeah, he's way over rated on this list. Especially considering we cut him and then resigned him for cheap. Weird. Although, I could have sworn Eric Smith was cut before that list came out last year. Maybe we're all actually under rating Pace. He knows Rex's system and isn't really a high individual stat guy, but that's the way this defense is built. With our rugged line this year, I think he'll have decent success.
Fans get too wrapped up in his pass rush ability..or lack of. He was an average pass rusher when we signed him & he still is to this day. What he is is a very good strong side OLB who can really set the edge, shed blocks & get to the football. He's always been a very solid football player. Just not a pass rusher or Jet fan darling.
For me, - he's been an average pass rusher at best since the day he arrived. And he may set the edge, but I've rarely seen him shed blocks & get to the football. A reliable starter? - maybe. Durable? - sure. But besides Barnes, we could have (and should have) found something better in FA or mid-late rounds of the draft.
It seems like NY Post is just going off last year's list and trying to keep it similar for guys they aren't sure of. Pace's play wasn't all that good last season, but the LB issues weren't just on him. Our NT was injured most of the year and our backup NT as well. Then throw in Bart Scott's injury, Bryan Thomas's injury, Davis still learning, forcing Harris into coverage a few times, which didn't work out. I think with Rex getting blitz happy again, our defense will be much similar to 2009, when Pace had his best year with a broken hand, IIRC.
I wouldn't rank Pace quite this high but remember, the main reason he gut cut was because he was being paid like a productive pass-rusher. I have no issue with them bringing him back in fact I think it's a great move; a reliable player who can help teach the younger guys Rex's system at a reasonable price.
Here's Holmes at 6. I just hope he can get healthy before game 1. Holmes was very productive last year when given the targets. Hopefully he can return to form, because he's a HUGE piece of the puzzle.
