I think headband read this thread and it pissed him off so much he lit it up at practice today. Damn.
I agree. I just dont think the staff is going to bet the opening of e season, when they have a guy thats easily better against 3 of those teams, and...as I pointed out...a rookie in week 2 on Thursday night, against Belli is not going to happen...because with no TEs, no Welker, that could very well be the game that decides the division. What is it you think is team has tried to do for Sanchez ? Got him am OC? Drafted a Blue Chip RB? Drafted a Blue Chip WR? Or begged him to make chicken salad out of chicken shit?
Stop with the Sanchez is better than 3 out of 4 QBs bullshit If Sanchez is better so is Geno I doubt the organization is thinking hey Mark is better than 3 of our first 4 opponents so well go with him
I know you can doubt this but I think Rex is the type of guy to bring stuff like this up. I can picture him saying " I know we had Mark play better than 3 out of 4 of these guys in the past, I trust him to get the job done. He gives us the best chance to win" Notice how today Rex praises Sanchez immediately without being asked to in his press conference, but when its Geno he usually has to be seduced by the media to talk about him and when he compliments the rookie he usually just says " He throws a very pretty ball, or maybe our coverage was not the best" Marty Morn is the exact opposite, he compliments Geno without being asked and mentions Mark just to be safe with the "competition" aspect. Idzik made a good call with who chooses the next QB, because Rex seems too emotionally attached to the past. BTW get ready for the Sanchez defense swarm.
I don't think Rex wants Geno under center He's quick to criticize him for holding the ball yet rarely says much about Mark and his picks He was asked about Genos arm and replied we all get caught up with guy who can throw it 96 mph but Sanchez can sling the rock too He won't let it go which I understand but that's not what's in best interest of the Jets
Exactly.... Its actually kind of disturbing. I even go back to the draft where Geno came into the Jets facility to greet the Jets coaching staff and the Geno to Rex handshake was so awkward. It was like Rex was confused. Thank god we have Idzik for balance, because Rex needs to focus on the defense and keep his emotions in check. If he really thinks Mark is the answer he should get ready to shed a few more tears during the season.
for the life of me i cant understand why people are in a rush to throw a project second round draft pick in right away to lead our less than stellar offense. this is the same thing that got the jets in trouble with sanchez. this is not going to be a winning season no matter who the QB is, so the important thing should be developing smith for the future so that when we have a top 5 draft pick, we dont have to blow it on ANOTHER qb. throwing a rookie QB to start day 1 with the (lack of) talent we have on offense is absolutely delusional, and i'm by no means a sanchez supporter
Geno will start Geno will start unless they think he's totally unprepared for the role. The reason is fairly simple - the jets have been carefully building $40 million in cap space to go on a free agent spending spree next year. I read that to mean they intend to make a run next year. If you intend to make a run next year, then you need to start Geno as early as possible to get him as much experience as possible and to figure out if he's your quarterback for your run or whether you need to go QB shopping in the offseason. Having him sit behind Sanchez doesn't serve any purpose, unless he's totally unprepared and would get killed out there.
Because if he's performing better than Sanchez in training camp, you start him. And by all accounts the race is tied which bodes well for Geno since he has more physical talent. And yes, the Jets really got into trouble starting Sanchez right away. Making those 2 Championship games was a disaster. I'm sick of people saying it is the Jets' fault for how Sanchez turned out. It's possible that Sanchez just isn't good enough. Sure he didn't have anything around him last year and his coordinator was an idiot, but he was making dumb mistake after dumb mistake, the kinds of mistakes that 4th year QB's who are good don't make (for the record I don't think Sanchez is as bad as he played last year, but I also don't think he's a starter in this league. He can be a fine back-up, though). There is no blueprint about how to groom a QB. But from the way Geno is picking up the offense, how he's not making dumb mistakes during camp, how he has a rocket arm and scrambling ability, and reading various articles about his dedication to studying and watching game tape, I think he's more than ready to start week 1. And will the Jets make the playoffs this year? Who knows, but no one thought they'd make the playoffs when Sanchez was thrown in as a rookie starter either.
Really hoping today's struggles for Geno help him grow. It's time for a new era of Jets football, it starts with the benching of Mark Sanchez.
The schedule originally seemed to have him starting the lions game because it was his day in the rotation. This throws a big wrench into my whole theory. Maybe they decided that Sanchez is starting Friday.
We have to stop naming starter after PRACTICES...I watched alot of Geno at WVU...not good against even decent defenses. Either way, if people decided on starters from practice and not actual games with contact... And I hear Geno threw 2 picks yesterday...oh no...blah blah blah They will decide after real playing time.
That's just Cimini talking. Maybe he is getting the extra time because it has already been decided that he is starting and Rex wants him as sharp as he can be.
