No - that is not the worst case scenario. As others have stated the worst case scenario is that Nacho plays mediocre to a little below, enough to hold on starting the entire year and not ultimately showing his true self until around week 14. Geno gets no starts, we finish around 7-9 knowing Sanchez is not the answer and a big question mark with Geno.
You realize that Sanchez starting preseason game 1 means nothing considering both guys will be playing with the first team offense?
If Sanchez starts he's going to be on a short leash. If week 14 he's stinking it up geno will get the start and we'll get 3 weeks to see what he's got. Worst case is really that Sanchez starts and doesn't play well. Then geno comes in and doesn't play well either. Everyone is all over the "anyone but sanzhez" band wagon, no ones even stopping to think if geno can be an nFL qb. People care more that his name isn't mark sanchez and less about whether or not he will actually play and pefrom well at the NFL level.
Sanchez will get "the majority" according to the presser. Also it matters because likely Detroit will most likely be pulling 1s from defense after the first couple drives. So even if geno goes with the 1. After Sanchez he might not be going against the lions #1 defs.
When did I ever say Sanchez was a superstar? I don't think I've ever referred to him as better than mediocre. I've said that he could one day be above average, but have not suggested that Sanchez was great or a superstar. Even before last season when I was more supportive of him and wrongly predicted a breakout year, I still said that we just need him to play average or slightly above average to make the playoffs and win games in the post season. I still believe that is true. I still believe it's not too late for Sanchez, however I am rooting for Geno Smith to win the job. I know I'm optimistic but I'm not a blind Sanchez supporter.
I've always said that it was El Guapo's job to lose. Everything being equal, you aren't going to throw a rookie to the wolves. It makes no sense. You can't start Geno and then have to pull him to insert Sanchez. Huge mistake. And not very smart. You do it the other way around. Start Sanchez knowing you have the option of inserting the rookie if you have to. I am saying IF all things are relatively equal and one doesn't completely outshine the other. And it doesn't look like that is happening... one emerging the clear winner over the other. So, in my mind, this is going well. The Jets will be starting "the right" starter and have the option of pulling the plug if the field gets stunk up again. You can't do it the other way around or you've got complete bedlam.
Geez, yeah I hope not. It would be repeat of 2011. Sanchez was actually in the middle of the pack during the first half of that year, then after the Broncos game it all ended.
Michael Kay sold me Start Mark until Geno is ready Nothing to lose in this situation except fans going wild if he throws a pick 6 to Revis and gets outplayed by Tebow in week 2
Fragile Ego? Are you implying I didnt say that? Certain things are just obvious. Garrard wouldnt make it thru TC. Sanchez, would be under center opening day. Both predictions are correct. Thats not ego. Thats mildly observant.
Michael Kay knows absolutely nothing about football, whatever he says about football you should usually do the opposite. it's like Stephen A Smith trying to talk about a sport besides basketball.
Your predictions are something any moron can guess, Hobbes. Your one of 11-5 is absolutely ridiculous. There is no way on God's green earth that we will only have 5 losses this year. 10-6 is optimistic. 7-9 is more realistic, but you think Belichick will somehow be overwhelmed by marty despite the fact that he has been in the league for 13 years and Marty even more. Marty isn't Houdini...
Aging and failing superstars should also be replaced...no? Or their cachet of wins is enough to allow them multiple 6-10 seasons? Disagree. This isn't a Rex decision - its an org decision. If Rex says it was his decision, you know damn well Idz had input on it, if not MM as well. Whether you hate Snatchez or not, you should be rooting for him to do well. Geno gets protected for a year and groomed to take over, Mark increases his value for trade, Jets win more games with multiple good QBs on team - (injury insurance; Nacho & Geno on field at same time. It Mark does well its good for the Jets and the team winning is what we should all be focusing on. Mark curling up fetus style in week 14 gets Geno 2 starts before the end of the year, so I'm ok with that too. My expectations for 2013 are pretty low. Anything over 8-8 is cream on the cake.
We'll see. Its not overwhelmed by Marty. Its a Thursday game with zero film study, after opening Sunday. My opinion would be different if it was a Sunday game. Rex, otoh, has known NEs offense...which...I might point out, is now minus two TEs, wes Welker, and has OL issues...and PS. NE generally is softer early in The season. If my predictions were so obvious, why were you guys all pushing Garrard, and now Smith? Because you're moronic? If it was that obvious, surely you would have seen it.
Still no clarity but a slight swing to Sanchez? Marty Morningwheg cited by NYDN http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/je...ark-sanchez-starting-in-detroit-hes-earned-it Marty Mornhinweg on Mark Sanchez starting in Detroit: 'He's earned it' BY SETH WALDER Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said Tuesday that it would be typical for the incumbent QB, in this case Mark Sanchez, to start the first preseason game. But on the fifth-year veteran, Mornhinweg also added, “He’s earned it.” “He’s had an outstanding training camp,” the coordinator said. “Mark...this is his game. He’ll start and go with the ones. And then certainly we’d like to get Geno in just a little bit with the ones, and then he’ll take the twos.” Mornhinweg was very complimentary of Sanchez, saying that the QB had a period of about a day and a half when his performance “dipped” but noted that he was proud of the way Sanchez responded late in the Green & White by throwing a long touchdown to Stephen Hill after a generally rough day. On Smith, Mornhinweg said the rookie began camp very well, but has cooled down somewhat since then. “(He) had a terrific start of the camp. He did some very good things in the Green & White as well. And he’s dipped just a little bit, so he’s got to recover,” Mornhinweg said. “We’ll see how he rebounds. Today was a little bit better than yesterday.”
