The thing that holds me back from going to games is that im a bigger NFL fan than just a Jets fan. I love the Jets but I love watching every other NFL game to. In other sports like baseball I can care less what is going on around the league if im at a Mets game, same applies with the NBA. Im sorry but the NFL, I need to see whats going on elswehere, I'd rather be home watching the 4:30 game and chatting it up on this forum that rather be stuck in a car listening to the radio and missing out on the other games. I don't mind SNF, MNF, or TNF because these are the only games being played, but for 1:00 games it does kinda stink missing out on the rest of the league. Thats just me though.
That ain't gonna go over well. So, everyone gets to see their tampons, pads, etc… Whether you attend games with females or not, this is going to be a HUGE clusterf*ck at the gates. I'm concerned.
I agree with wanting to see the other games too, and this is a downside to attending 1:00 games. I used to be a season ticket holder a long time ago, and yeah I'd miss out on just about all the 4:00 games by the time I got home from a 1:00 Jets game. Not the end of the world by any means, but hanging out at the local watering hole with a bunch of like-minded fans catching the action of several games going on at once is what I enjoy now.
Don't have an answer to your questions but I do have something interesting to add. Held a job in the old Yankee Stadium (early to late-90s) and was involved with the ordering/stocking of food, souvenirs, soda & beer (tap & bottles). I was just a low-level employee & did more manual labor than thinking. Became friendly with the higher ups in food/souvenirs ordering process. Asked them off the record, why the F*** does Yankee Stadium charge so much for food & drink? Response was that they were averaging approximately 2 drinks & 1.5 food items per ticket. Drinks can be soda or beer & drinks can also be on-tap or bottled. Management's attitude was that lowering the price would not increase profits because people will only buy enough food/drink until they're satisfied. Also, learned that they kept stats on how much food/drink was sold after each price increase & they were still maintaining that same ratio (aproximately). ==== I had expressed my own personal opinions that they're driving fans to eat & drink before entering the stadium. Management's counter-argument was most fans will ALWAYS leave some room in their stomach to buy food at the stadium because they want the "experience" of eating and being entertained simultaneously. Fans that choose to stay home will simply be replaced by fans willing to spend the money. Every year the numbers seemed to back them up. Sure there were some fans who came to the stadium & only paid for tickets & parking. They were offset by the fans who come in & order more than 2 drinks & more than 1.5 food items per ticket. ==== Yankees made playoffs multiple times while I was employed there. Beer prices were raised really high during playoffs & World Series & the ratio of food/drinks per ticket still increased. Saw it myself how that "experience of the game" just drives people to buy. Fans that got priced out of the playoffs simply get replaced by new fans that are willing to spend (on tickets & refreshments). ==== From my experiences, I just can't picture a scenario where majority of fans eat/drink so much that they make a dent in stadium sales (despite the tail gates). This is likely the year I give up on attending live games myself. So far I've been keeping my eyes on stubhub for deals & catching 2-4 games a season (and bringing in my own food/drink). I'm enjoying the NFL on TV a lot more these days & totally alright with just watching the Jets game with gathering of friends at somebody's home.
Um have you guys seen the bag that you are only allowed to bring to games? My colleague is a season ticket holder to the Giants and he showed me this exact bag is the only bag allowed to stadiums. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/08...r-new-security-policy-at-this-weekends-games/
The days of Gate D were a simpler time.....until some woman from Pittsburgh had to ruin it for everyone.
Pretty interesting. The new Yankee Stadium (like Citi Field) has added a lot of new types of food stands, and I bet their 1.5 food items per ticket ratio is even higher now than it was in the 90s. I'm sure that was the whole point. Judging by the lines, I honestly have to say that it seems like they are right - people will line up to pay $9 for a hot dog and buy $13 beers. You could get a decent dinner at a real restaurant for that much, but once they're in the stadium I think people just think "I want a hot dog/burger", set aside their normal sense of what things are supposed to cost, and just get on the back of that 40 person line. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it. Maybe as ticket prices (for all the major sports, at least in the NY area) have gotten drastically higher over the years, the overpriced food is not as big a deal for people compared to what they paid for their tickets, so they don't feel bad about spending "a little more" (relative to their ticket price) to have that oh so important experience of mindlessly eating junk food that you barely enjoy because you're focusing on the game. Just as a side note, if one is going to get really drunk at a Jets game, the correct jersey to wear is #32 Boozer. I don't think Boozer is actually an alcoholic, but the idea of a drunk guy in a Boozer jersey is pretty amusing.
