Today is Geno's big test. MM was saying that they have pretty much fully evaluated Sanchez and know where he stands. This is their best chance to test Geno. He's only taken a handful of snaps, so this game will be huge. Obviously the result doesn't matter, only how Geno looks.
I think a lot of people hope Smith plays average or worse tonight so they can go with Sanchez. It is easier to start Sanchez and go to Smith than to start smith and go back to Sanchez. That would destroy Smith and Sanchez might be a basket case when he comes back and then you are left with nothing for most of the season. Sanchez goes September and you re-evaluate at that time. Not starting Sanchez tonight just hurts the progress of the offense.
I got to tell you...I am NOT in this category!! It is my hope that GeeSmith goes out there and lights it the "F" up!!! He's going to play almost 3 quarters from what they are saying...I'd like to see at LEAST 15 or 20 completions for around 250 yds...one or two td's with ZERO interceptions. In fact, I'd like to come out of this game with ZERO turnovers across the board! No sir, I would love it if GeeSmith takes control of this mother...TONIGHT!!
where have you heard that this game determines starting qb, wr, OL, RB and the Defense??? I have not heard anybody else from Woody to Idzik to Rex make that statement, so i was just curious to know what your source is for that statement.
For anyone complaining about Geno starting and likely playing 2-3 quarters tonight, you are out of your collective minds. There is no added advantage to playing Sanchez at all tonight. There are 4 years of game tapes and 6 playoff games that will tell you all that you need to know about Sanchez. Geno has only played a dozen + snaps of live football this year. Better to know now whether he is up to the task than going in blind later in the season. It will be interesting to see what the Jets do this year. Ultimately, starting Geno all year isn't necessarily the worst thing to happen as at least they will know what they have in time for the 2014 draft. The only downside is paying Sanchez $8 million to ride pine but that is a sunk cost no matter what. If it was me, I would rather play Geno the majority of tonight and next week and get Sanchez some limited reps next week in prep for starting week 1. If the Jets are in playoff contention at the bye, that will likely mean Sanchez has played well enough to get the nod the rest of the year. If by the bye week they are looking at draft positions, then start Geno with the benefit of 2 weeks to prep for week 11. The added bonus is that Geno will face a much easier schedule the 2nd half of the season.
i havent heard anybody complaining about GS getting the start tonight. He deserves a shot to show what he can do. Hopefully he has a good performance. If he earns the starting job ~ Gr8 !! If he needs to work on his game and adjust to the NFL - thats fine and thats to be expected. Meanwhile keeping Sanchez out of the fray and safe from injury is also an excellent reason to give Geno the reps.
I wish people would stop saying this If they go Geno week 1 they're never going back to Sanchez barring injury or Geno implodes Sanchez might be cut at that and we'd likely see a vet signed to mentor Geno
I think you are incorrect as far as how many people want Smith to do poorly. The vast amount of people on this forum want Smith to win outright. I'd like to see him do well, but I don't just want him to see him do okay and just not turn the ball over and win the job. But Sanchez hasn't really done a bang up job in keeping his job either. I'd prefer to see either one have a great showing and use that momentum to charge into the beginning of the season. Not starting Sanchez tonight means that this is a real QB competition. Something that Sanchez has never participated in.
Getting ready to head out to the stadium. I can't remember ever being this excited for a Preseason game. I'm hoping Geno lights it up and we don't look back. But if he only plays decent or - dare I even say it - he shits the bed, then I hope Sancho finds his groove again. Or any groove at all.
Chances are the CS is pretty sure who the #1 QB will be. They've seen GS w/the 1s exclusively this past wk and he has had snaps w/the 1s all camp. Hopefully he has a great game NYJ crush the jints.
Besides Geno, I'm looking forward to see how the running backs do. Also, I want to see how the defense holds up and if we can create pressure with only the front 3/4. Additionally, will Dee Miliner be playing tonight? and will the game be televised nationally, or are there any streams that will be showing the game.
Over under on Geno Smith having a very strong showing tonight? I'm going over. I'm putting my confidence in Geno Smith as I've done all offseason through words. Have posted statistical breakdowns of Geno's senior season coming out when compared to Andrew Luck's final college season. Posted the strength of schedule and types of defenses both faced. Only compared Smith to Luck because if Luck is truthfully the highest rated quarterback prospect since Elways coming out then, I'd like to see how Geno's production stood up againt Luck's. And without a question Geno Smith's quarterbacking numbers were neck and neck with Luck.
I agree with everyone. I don't think I've ever looked forward to a pre-season game before, but I'm siked for tonight.
I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone to put Smith and Luck in the same sentence. I think it's unfair to expect the kid to match Luck's production. I think Smith needs to play the majority of the next two games and play well before coach hands the job to him. It's obvious that the front office is pushing hard for Smith. He may not be ready. If he falters and loses confidence, Ryan will reluctantly go back to Sanchez. And where do that put the team?
One one thousand...two one thousand...three one thousand....throw to open receiver...run...or throw it into the ground...
And Geno Smith looks terrible, so we have three terrible quarterbacks, gonna be a banner year. At least I'll get to see a couple games on the cheap. Hopefully drafting Geno doesn't preclude us from Drafting Aaron Murray or another QB.
