Nice piece. Hey, we should all be optimistic for now. Sure this team has negatives, but we damn well have positives too; things that somehow most of the football-reporting world refused to acknowledge going in to this season.
I called it when, before the draft, I was insistent upon the Jets drafting a DLineman in the 1st round, that Rex was looking to mold a DL to one that he had when he first came over in 2009. Many naysayers here said it was a dumb move and that they should drafted a LB or whatever. Now they have a front seven that could be the top 5 in the NFL, and it's only week 2....the scary part is the can get a whole lot better....give Sheldon/Damon/ and Coples more reps along with Davis.....scary. Good thing fans don't run the front office
Hate to be grammar queen, but the first sentence makes no sense. in lieu is used completely incorrectly.
The defense is already ranked #3 and that is with 7 new starters..it's nasty enough and now we an extra 16 million to spend on offense next year.
" The defense is already ranked #3 and that is with 7 new starters..it's nasty enough and now we an extra 16 million to spend on offense next year. " Seems like the long term vision is starting to really take shape. I'm excited... Think Jimmy Grahm would play for the Jets for $16 mil a year?
probably, but we would be better off without paying him 16 a year. that move is for a team at the end of the window looking for 1 last shot before its time to blow it up. this team needs to take that 16 and extend a few players and /or bring in some solid vets that can create competition at a few key spots. olb safety te wr ol if howard isn't retained.
after years of chirping about the jets and their failure to add the necessary pieces to the defense, i finally can stop bitching and enjoy what could be a consistent top 5 defense for the next 3-4 years.... its been a long time coming and i really dont have an answer as to why but it dont matter now. the teamwork and communication will improve and the best part is they still have this upcoming offseason to put some finishing touches on it - the back 7/8.
While I agree wholeheartedly, I still think they need a pure edge rusher. THAT would be an unstoppable defense. Or unmovable. Well, you get the point. _
i was trying not to be so blunt but thats exactly what i meant. obviously they dont grow on trees but i would love to see a concerted effort to get a player that fits that mold. that would put it way over the top.
They may not grow on trees, but do they grow on snails? We haven't had an edge rusher since Abe! _
Good point. Can't believe how good Richardson is, maybe they liked him enough at 9? We'll never know. _
The GM can't force players to accept contracts, Revis would have to agree to the contract. Revis let it be known that he needed $16m a year, or he was not going to re-sign with the Jets. The sticking point was money- Revis wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL, and if you said "we'll give you a 100% guaranteed $10m contract instead" he would say "If it doesn't add up to $16m a year, it's not going to work." There's no way to structure around that.
