Nice to see Mark genuinely excited after that GW FG last night. It has to be tough for him especially when he knows he'll never see the field again (most likely) with the Jets.
i am not trying to prove him wrong, i think he is probably right. HOWEVER you cant come on here and make declarations of how it is when you dont really have any idea what is going on. that was my point, and his response proves my point. cue up the lets have a football discussion... then we will talk about fantasy stuff like what wouldve happened if mark sanchez played last night. its a fucking train wreck.
It's called common sense, not everything needs to be explained. based on all the info we had who do you think won the "competition"?
i think sancho played better from what i saw. but i dont think it was about how sancho played i think it was about how geno handled himself in the situation. the jets kind of got lucky that sancho got hurt. or it would have been a debate about why sancho isnt the starter, we have given up on the season... blah blah OR it would have been everyone waiting for sancho to mess up so geno could come in. i think either way that geno was going to get time this year. and i think the jets at this point have seen enough flashes that sanchez should just get the surgery and come back somewhere else next year.
I think it was about Geno too, if Geno showed he was ready he would have started but last night was the first night he looked ready.
Last night, Geno looked like the #1 overall pick he was projected to be at one time. Geno to me for the first time looked like he was in control of that offense.
I hope last night is a sign of things to come. I love the 3 headed monster in the backfield, once Holmes gets back we'll have a nice WR corps. As long as he protects the ball we can win a lot of games.
he played well last night. but he has made all the passes he made last night at a number of times this year. those flashes are what really had impressed me about him. he also played a really bad defense last night and they pulled back the reigns a little bit which was probably the biggest thing for him. throwing it 20 instead of 32 times really lessened the exposure for him. the most impressive thing he did was make mistakes and learn from them. the fact he was as adamant about protecting the ball last night as he was spoke volumes to me.
The biggest reason they only threw it 20 times was b/c he didn't turn it over and put the Jets in bad spots needing to throw all day to come back. They had their full compliment of RBs and were incredibly efficient throwing and running. there will be other games he has to throw 35 times and those games will be struggles to win. If he can keep the TOs down we can run more and it will help him.
The Jets threw the ball more than they ran it last night. 24 drop backs not counting penalties to 22 runs. It was a good balanced effort on their part and they got a lot of points out of it. 30 points on 46 plays is very productive.
Wow. Only 46 plays. The Eagles ran 53 plays against the Redskins in Week 1 ... in the first half! I'm not criticizing anyone as there are a lot of ways to skin a cat, but that's a pretty crazy stat.
Mark has been a great teammate all season long except for his whole "I won the competition issue." He's glad to be moving on, on a new team with a chance to hopefully restart his career.
True...it was good to get his feet wet and I like how they got him touches in the 1st part of that game to get him accustomed to the game speed again. His speed will make a difference though, especially that 24 yard gain he had which was really a 2 yard loss...
The reason the Jets ran so few plays on offense last night was twofold, first the Falcons were playing a possession game with short passes leading to long drives, second the Jets had a bunch of short drives during the game, and not the usual kind of futile drives we are accustomed too. The Jets had ONE 3-and-out all night. They also had a 3 play scoring drive (Wildcat Powell for 3 followed by passes of 47 and 16) and a 4 play scoring drive off of Kerley's punt return (Ivory 19, Ivory 1, Wildcat Powell for 2, TD pass to Winslow.) People hating on the Wildcat are ignoring the fact that it was used in two short scoring drives last night of the type the Jets have been unable to manage over the last several years.
I don't recall where, but I remember reading during training camp that Morninwheg (sp?) preferred Geno. I suspect Sanchez did win the short term competition (by a slim margin) but would have had a very short leash in the regular season, as the OC and GM don't see him as the long term solution at QB.
