What the hell was with that one play? NE ball 3rd and 5, Vilma backs up 10-15 yards covering Faulk. Faulk goes five yards turns around and gets the first down. What was with that? Might as well sit down and say take it. Vilma is not going to look good in this defense and we are going to realize he is just average. I like the guy but havent heard his name in awhile. I know its a new defense and it takes time. Hope he adapts well, we need him Our defensive line stinks plain and simple, along with the offensive line. The DB's did a good job when Brady was sitting back there all day eating a sandwhich. Someone said it before, the few times we blitzed brady threw it away or got clobbered an fumbled. What the hell were they waiting for. And lots not go crazy over Penningtons 301 yards two plays made his day and it was more of the WR plays. But damn he did look good the week before. But I think if you give him time, he can pick apart defenses.

    On Chad:

I think that he hit most of the open guys yesterday.

I think he is so good in the short game -- that they are able to take shots 35-40 yards down field a couple of times.

Big plays are part of the game. How often did we see Montana with a 65 yard td where he threw the ball 15 yards.

I agree Stevie, if they just gave him some time. They were killing him. I thought he was going to hurt his knee on the play to crotchery.

Montana had the same arm Chad does, both use their brains to their advantage. Before I get lambasted by comparing the two, all I mean is you do not need an Elway arm to be successful.

Montana also had Jerry Rice, probably the best yards-after-catch guy in the history of the game. That will do wonders for your passing numbers, as we saw yesterday with the Jets.

Montana won two super bowls (81, 84) before Jerry Rice entered the league in 1985. In fact, before Rice, the Montana only had one WR have one 1,000 yard season (Clark in 81).

The point is Montana spread the ball around smartly - it wasn't only just the WRs.

Absolutely. Brady has a good arm, but he didn't throw it that long most of the time. Brady still was very productive though.

Agreed on the mismatch re Vilma/Faulk , but Vilmas average??? I also agree that it will take time for the whole D to adjust and some may adapt more quickly , especially if they have used that system before. Vilma has never played 3-4.
It may have escaped your notice but when Rashad Washington replaced DRob at NT the interior run slowed dramatically and Vilam was more effective , still not enough in my view. (On a side note , it would not surprise me if he were traded within 2 years in the current scheme if he looks lost).
Give credit where its due Chad did do well again putting in some amazingingly accurate passes , and yes the WRs surpassed themselves. We have them to thank for keeping it that close.
