Taken from Today's NYDN: And there you have it from the Boss himself. Rex is pretty much golden barring another historic implosion. Curiously, I wonder if Woody is using the non-committal angle as incentive to keep Rex on his toes. Oh well, on to the 2013 Finish Line where ever that is.. Go Jets!
As long as the team takes it one day at a time Rex, Geno and co should all be fine its not like we're dealing with James Dolan
Letting go of Rex after this season will set the Jets back many years. It would be very foolish to do so.
I think the hiring of Marty Mornhinweg covered up one of Rex's glaring deficiencies, his lack of participation with the offense. The one year he made it a point to participate, it was a disaster (2012). I think the Jets should consider keeping Mornhinweg and Rex together, they basically have two great schemers on both sides of the ball and Rex will have time to grow even more as a HC.
I've never understood the "Rex Must Go" mentality. Why? Because he stuck with Sanchez so long? What option did he have? He was the QB who gave us the best chances of eeking out an 8-8 season. Anything else would have produced worse even. Sanchez' injury brought in the Geno Era, so we'll never really know how long Rex would have stayed with the Turnover Machine. But I suspect, not for long. We're on track now. Rex has the time to stick his knowledgable nose into the DEF and with Marty M, we have the perfect OC. This is a great combination. So, to even thing about letting Rex go is completely assinine. Not going to happen.
good for woody, give them nothing and committ to nothing. there is no reason to make a definitive statement right now.
Lets all also keep in mind that some of the big QBs that are driving the perennial playoff contenders in the AFC: Brady, Manning, BBen - are getting long in the tooth. Soon those playoff 'locks' (not including Pitt this year) will be out of the equation, and a young team with good pieces and coaching in place like ours will be poised to take those spots over, or at least contend regularly for themm
Exactly. And the last thing you want to do now is disrupt the continuity by playing Musical Chairs with the coaching staff.
Hopefully Rex gets a long term extension and Gary Myers gets his hack butt thrown out of the offices of the NYDN
Hmm, that is possible... He said that he won't make any statements about Rex's status until after the year. But he didn't say anything about decisions, so it could be that the decision has already been made and the contract has already been signed.
