Local radio is overwhelmingly Jets talk. It's not even close. On ESPN, NFLN, FS1, NBCSN, etc, they don't get thru a single show w/o bringing up the Jets. Same with sat radio, the magazines and internet articles. They cannot take the Jets out their mouths, and over dramatize everything. the only team i can even think of that comes close to being dramatized like we are is the Cowboys. The Jets are quite possibly the most discussed team in the entire NFL nationally. whether its negative or positive is irrelevant. negativity seems to sell better around NY, but they will discuss either way. So from the network standpoint, the narratives they can exploit from a matchup like this, kind of writes itself. If the Jets destroy the Fins, they spend a little time discussing Rex and Geno, and the 'turnaround' from what they expected. Then they will spend majority of time focusing on the Dolphins problems and how the Incognito/Martin situation submarined their season. If the Fish win, they'll spend there time pulling out old narratives and bashing the Jets (which many want to see). Or more likely, it is a good close football game, and there is so much to discuss they can't even fit it all in. From the fans perspective, the networks want enough interest where fans have an opinion. Everyone has an opinion on Rex and Incognito at this point. They are also 2 divisional rivals, relevant, and in the playoff race. Not every game can feature Peyton Manning (who is the biggest draw in NFL no doubt), and not every fan wants to see offensive duels and QB's. Personally i love defense. i also loved the Packers Bears game featuring 2 backup QB's once Rodgers went down... why, because it is a great rivalry (the oldest) and has relevant teams fighting for the playoffs in a defense based matchup. What game do you think is more appealing than this outside of Denver who will not be bumped?
You're a Jet fan, I'm a Jet fan, we're all Jet fans so our ears perk up when the Jets are mentioned. Most if not all of the media attention is of the negative circus type stuff. Nobody cared about the Dolphins until the Incognito stuff came up. As fans we all think everyone is talking about us, think people across the country are all jizzed up about Geno and how incredible that legendary rivalry is that we have with the Fins and can't wait to see it. Lol. _
it's not just my ears perking up. Local radio is all Jets, and national coverage has been as high as any team in the league. the offseason was an unnecessary frenzy of negativity yes, but the narratives have quickly changed and the team is still discussed at length. either way, positive or negative, it is a headliner story, which is exactly my point. if you don't think the Jets are one of the primary teams covered nationally, i don't know what to tell you. it's obvious to the point of overkill. with Miami, guess what? the Incognito stuff DID happen, and is currently the #1 story everywhere. you didn't answer my question. what games that week are of more interest other than Denver Chiefs (which ain't gonna happen)? your argument is that no one cares about this game, or the Jets or Dolphins, and that the networks are unlikely to promote it. So which games are clearly more appealing for ratings?
agree. i'd much prefer it remain an early game. we honestly don't need any more attention, and our primetime recent past hasn't been good. I'd rather keep playing, and winning, out of the spotlight if possible. Team needs to remain focused.
You missed the context of my comments. I have no idea who is available to be aired/flexed/not flexed/available to play on any network on a week to week basis. The topic bores me. I was just making an observation-absent any of those other considerations-that countrywide anyone cares about the Jets as a non-circus or that there is some national interest in the Jets-Fins rivalry, or Geno or Rex (as a non-clown) or as a compelling team/story. I LOVE the Jets and Rex and Geno and everything about this team. The rest of the country could not give a half-baked crap if it doesn't involve some circus related story. But maybe you are right, folks in Cleveland and SD and KC and Pitt and Carolina and Texas and everyone west of the Mississippi or south of the Mason Dixon Line can't WAIT to see the Jets, can't get enough of them. It can't happen, but if the NFL could they'd show Peyton, Pitt, GB, SF and Dallas every week nationally. But you're probably right, the Jets are right up there with Dallas. Lol. _
you cannot answer the question posed, as you are incorrect about the attractiveness of this game. pretty sure people in Cleveland, Pitt and SD (3 of the cities you just referenced) will be very interested in the AFC playoff implications surrounding the game. you also seem vastly unaware of the fickle hard on the media has for the Jets. Lol.
I dont blame you at all. Ive come to terms that I wont be watching the game so if I happen to get to see it, it would be a huge plus.
Being interested in an outcome does not make the game attractive. A media hard on does not make the game attractive. But maybe you're right, were the most interesting team, most compelling story, most in demand team in the league. Joe fan sitting at home can't get enough of us. You should see the bill boards of us in Minny and SF and Pitt in Nashville and Boston. We're the "new" America's team. Lol, Jet fans. _
Obviously there is a lot of football to be played before 12/1 but that's the first week I see a possible time change. The 12/1 game against the Dolphins is 1pm and the Giants/Skins are the night game so we could be moved to 4:25 or knock the Giants out of the night spot since both teams could be out. The 12/15 against the Panthers is 4pm. The night game is Bengals/Steelers. I could see us being moved to the night game. Steelers are done. Last week of the season at Miami. Could be 4pm or night game. All other weeks, the Giants are at 4pm or the Sunday night game is a good matchup. They don't usually move games from 4pm to 1pm
NBC would rather have Eli Manning vs. RGIII than Geno Smith vs. Ryan Tannehill. BOTTOM LINE FOLKS! The Giants and Redskins are both 2 games out of the NFC East lead, despite their (3-6) records. The Jets (and if Miami defeats Bucs) are (5-4) but also the same 2 games out of the AFC East. It won't be changed.
Oh stop, the Jets are the most interesting team in the NFL, didn't you know that? Look at all the media. And the media. _
Uh, yeah it does actually. Being interested in the outcome of the game is exactly what makes a game attractive. you've gotta be kidding me.. no one ever made an argument about number of national fans or being America's team. your grasping at straws as you cannot state why u believe this game to be uninteresting. -Lol, inferiority complex
Giants Redskins is a good primetime matchup, especially if the division remains tight after next week. Good chance you are right..
Lol inferiority complex, been a Jet fan since Namath and one of the biggest homers on the board. And just about every division rivalry is "interesting", especially to true football fans. I'm just not naive to think the rest of he country cares about us, because they don't. But you may be right, we're as big a draw as the Cowboys. _
I think if a Jets game is going to get flexed, its going to be the @Carolina Game. SNF right now has Cinn @ Pitt for that week
It doesnt work like that, thats why "Eli Manning vs Aaaron Rodgers" got Flex for Peyton Manning vs Alex Smith. NBC wants meaningful games, thats what people watch. It looks like the game will be meaningful so it wont be flexed, the end.
I have to agree. Carolina's huge road win over the 49ers vaulted them onto the national stage with good storylines as well into the NFC playoff picture. This can easily be sold by NBC as Geno vs. Cam Newton. Meanwhile, Andy Dalton and the Bengals have faltered since beating the Jets and the Steelers are a mess right now.
