The book is called Collision Low Crossers. I'm almost halfway through it. By a guy who got unlimited access to the team for 2011. So far the biggest revelation is that Rex drafted Scotty McKnight to placate Sanchez, to the consternation of the rest of the war room. It's also apparent that Tannenbaum acted as Ryan's facilitator as opposed to supervisor. Anyone else got the book?
Spoiler Alert: Jets at (8-5) look to be a playoff team, then completely collapse from within, lose final 3 games, and miss the playoffs with an (8-8) record.
Ridiculous that we'd let a total random into the building and spew a bunch of shit. I'm certain this guy is Mehtas anon source. Tannenbaum is a fucking toolshed. That being said, I will purchase a copy, since what's done is done. Incredible detail.
I can tell you it's fascinating so far. I'm pretty sure Idzik wouldn't have let someone in like this. It's like Hard Knocks in print. A lot more detailed.
WOW!!! Barcs: "So....not everything in the book paints the Jets as the perfect organization? Someone said not so nice things about Rex? 2011 wasn't sunshine and rainbows? I bet a lot of it is made up."
I'd buy the book right now but I have a feeling I'd have 2 or 3 copies come Christmas morning. And if I'm wrong then on December 26th I can probably buy it on Amazon for 90% off! Can't wait
Purchased this to my "old fashioned kindle". Lol, amazing nowadays, since it's not a "kindle fire" or "paper white", I call it ole fashioned. Anyway, started reading last nite and it's really hard to put down (on chapter 3 already). Thanx for the tip on this!!!
One of you idiots owes me 13 dollars. Lol. I'm 200 pages in and it reads like an homage to mike Pettit to this point. Tell me this gets better, without ruining for other people of course. So far I find it incredibly drawn out and boring. I don't want to say much more and ruin for people. But is painting a bizarre pic0ture so far of the organization. But I'm still bored
Did you find out anything new/interesting about the 2011 Jets? I don't mind spoilers -- just put a spoiler tag/line before you write it. I'm trying to decide whether or not to get this book.
All kidding aside.. its a strange book.. I bought it on the ipad.. its almost 800 pages. Not sure if it's same in paperback.. I'm 200 pages in.. basically so far it's allot about the coaching staff. The writer entered this situation with no real knowledge of football(less than all of us on here. Lol) So he has allot of details about what's what.. seems he was given allot of access not normally granted. I will say that a positive for the book. Its strange he was allowed to sit in on things they let him sit in on. I'll send u a quick PM about the book. Cause there is an underlying tone here. I don't want to spoil it. But the tone is clear for the first 200 pages. Then you can decide if you want to buy it.
I finished it, and what it reported has definitely informed my opinion of the individuals and coaches on this team, especially in the context of the way this current season is going. It's important to try to filter out the author's opinion of the people involved (he obviously grew fond of all of them). It's not the best sports book I've ever read, but at least it offers a substantial taste of what was going on in the meeting rooms that year, which is so far the most pivotal year of Rex Ryan's career.
