....on giving an interview when feeling "disrespected" and p#ssed-off after a big play-off win! Bart, after a HUGE UPSET playoff victory over N.E, heatedly voiced his anger @ the disrespect Jet D had rec'd from var. "talking heads"! In this classic, 1:01 interview, Bart mentioned the words "OUR" twice, "US", twice, "TEAM" 3 times & "WE/WE'RE" 9 times not ONCE using the words "I" or "ME" afterwards finishing up with 1 of the most famous catch-phrases in Jet history; "CAN'T WAIT"! Dude was all about the TEAM. Sherman's quick, :29 interview contained 4 "ME's" & 3 "I's"! No "US", "OUR", "WE" or "TEAM". Dude, you gotta' at least, ACT like you know!!! "Can't wait". Of course, a week later, the Jets came out and played a horrible 1st half against the Steelers.
It's better to just keep your trap shut at least until you win it all. How stupid would Sherman look if Peyton burns him for the game winning TD in the Super Bowl?
He also made himself sound like a bumbling idiot trying to string two sentences together. Sounded like mush mouth.
I thought his rant was hysterical. and like the criticism of Jameis Winston's post game interview, why do I feel the criticism is coming from the part of our society that is, how shall I say, pigment challenged. This article just about sums up the criticism: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/isaac...1980.html?utm_hp_ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false
Yeah, the guy who graduated second in his high school class with a 4.1 GPA and went on to graduate from Stanford, feeds the homeless, works with kids and made Pete Carroll in his USC days wait for 2 1/2 hours when he was being recruited because he wouldn't skip a class. Bumble on, Dude!
Anyone who has a problem with it is just ridiculous imo. Probably the same people who complain that Belichick doesnt saying anything yet get mad when someone speaks up. I dont have a problem AT ALL with what Sherman did, Harbaugh bullied the damn guy at Stanford, clearly did not think much of him either, (he drafted Culliver over Sherman in the draft), and then Crabtree attacked Sherman after the game. I think Sherman handled himself well, he could have turned around and hit Crabtree back but he didnt, he could have confronted Harbaugh to if he wanted but he didn't. That play though was a big middle finger right to Jim Harbaugh, and I loved every single second of it. All Sherman did was confront his bully, the same exact thing Jonathon Martin got criticized for not doing.
I don't care what Sherman did, but I think he embarrassed himself personally. Kinda reminded me of a "professional" wrestling skit, where we venture into the realm of Roudy Roddy Piper or some shit.
I felt like I could have run through a brick wall after that interview. Either that moment or right after the Jumbo Elliot TD were my happiest memories as a fan.
Lets get back to reality for a minute. Sherman came on tv after the game. Over 50 million people were watching. To the 49million or so who did not have the inside knowledge about his background, he looked and sounded like a fool. I consider myself a knowledgeable football fan and I didn't know all the background information. So what type of reaction do you expect from those whose first brush with Sherman was that interview?
You are correct. I actually knew the backstory. It was all covered in a Sports Illustrated story from four months back. I still found him to be an asshole on Sunday night. He is a poor sportsman. You don't attack the opposition and belittle them after you win a game.
I don't have much of a problem with it. He's the best at what he does and he got a little carried away but nothing that bad. Now when it's Freddie Mitchell doing the smack talk, then I have a problem with it because he couldn't back it up on the field.
I get that he has a back story, overcame incredible odds, is a great person in the community, was a GREAT student, made Carroll wait for him to finish a class, was from Compton, feeds the homeless, works with kids, has been doubted his whole life and overcame to the extreme. colin Cowherd went even further and told some GREAT stories about him. Seems like a very very bright guy with a real head on his shoulders. I get it. I love all that about him. I just don't understand why all that means we have to excuse boorish behavior. Maybe I'm just an old cane shaker. To be fair, it probably wasn't fair to jam a microphone in his face 10 seconds after that play and after that game when he was totally charged up. _
I don't think it's excusing the behavior, but a lot of people on social media/media have made split second decisions judging Richard Sherman as a whole on that one interview. That's what I think is incorrect. I think it's definitely okay criticize what he said/did after the game ended, but people are than saying that defines him which really isn't true in my opinion.
And that is exactly the issue. I said the same thing about Jameis Winston's on field interview in the BCS thread. Sherman just won the game against a player and coach he clearly has issues with, and you stick a microphone in his face in the heat of the celebration. Of course you are going to get 100mph bravado in that situation. That's excitement and truth from him. If you don't want either don't ask for his comments, and certainly don't watch it. Wait until the interviews he gives the next day if you want a buttoned up, composed interview.
I have more of a problem with FOX for cutting away from that like they did. Finally a REAL sideline interview instead of boring, close to the vest clichés that have become commonplace and they cut away. Having said that - I didn't particularly like Sherman's attitude in that interview. For the reasons this thread was created. Too many "Mes" and "Is" for my taste. I found it a little disrespectful to his teammates. There was some great plays made by guys all over his team to finally get over the hump and he chooses to talk about himself... But- that doesn't mean I don't want to see interviews like that. I may not have liked it myself, but it was at least entertaining. JetBlue- I read that blog you posted and I'll be honest, I didn't like it one bit. There are some bold statements about society on there, that I just don't see how any of it is relevant. Sherman's background is great, he seems like a wholesome individual who has overcame a lot, but it doesn't change the fact that in his shining moment he was arrogant and superficial. I don't know if society has a problem with people being bold, or loud, or different - Personally, I don't believe so. Rex Ryan is bold, loud and different and he is beloved. But I think seeing someone speak of that kind of arrogance that Sherman had in that interview makes people feel uncomfortable.. and that's where the criticism comes from. Unfortunately for Sherman, this was the moment for him to become a household name and unfortunately people aren't going to research his whole background, they are going to look at that superficial interview.. .but it doesn't change the fact that it was incredibly arrogant.
