...Just saw on SNF that the Jets are the first road team in NFL history to win a game in which the home team had a 150 yard rusher, and a 300 yard passer. Wins a win. You are what your record says, as the Tuna liked to say. Nice to be on the other side of history, used to be quite often teams would use us to create NFL history...
Jets had a funny way of defying the odds from 1998-2002. In 1998 we had Vinny's helmet score a TD for us in a critical game late in the season that won the division for us. In 1999 a QB from Rutgers won 6 out of 7 at the end of the year for a 2-7 team going nowhere without him. That was the only effective string of play in his entire NFL career. In 2000 the Jets won several completely improbable games early in the season including that monday nighter against the Dolphins and a come from behind victory against one of the league's best defenses in Tampa Bay. 2002 saw us come out of nowhere to dethrone the super bowl champion Patriots as the AFC East winner, with the Pats having to score 24 points in the last 6 minutes of the season against the AFC's best defense to accomplish that. I'm starting to wonder if that magic is back for us now.
The Vinny sneak didn't win the div for us, we won the div by 2 games so even if we lost and the last few games played out the same we would have won the div. Where have you been the last decade? We have been one of the better teams in the NFL, sure we had a rough '05 but that was not the norm.
It won the division. Going into that game the Jets and Dolphins were tied at 8-4 and the Pats were a game back and everybody was talking about the Jet's bad Decembers. After the game the Jets had a one game lead and never looked back. If they don't get that call there are 3 teams at 8-5 at the end of the day and I don't see them winning the division off of that. Especially with the blown game against Indy a few weeks earlier hanging over their head.
You're right. As I'm sure you recall, the following week, the Jets went into Miami ( a must win) on a high, won with a dominating D and ball control O, and never looked back. A loss to Seattle after coming all the way back and falling inches short and the Jets season would of played out much differently (IMHO).
We won the division by 2 games, the Sea loss would have been 1 game and a non-div loss. It didn't give us the div title. They got over the Indy loss quickly, that had no bearing on the final 4 weeks.
