We have a lot to fix before we think playoffs  We are in big trouble stopping the run. Also our running game is suffering. Imho we need to shore up the run defense and quickly if we want to win more then 6 games in 06'. Opposing teams are manhandling our D line. I love the fact thay we won yesterday but we will lose a lot more games unless this stops. On the offensive side we need to keep our fingers crossed that Curtis can play and contribute after week 6. Post your opinion on what the Jets biggest need is right now.

Our biggest need is to grow and develop. In the offseason we need a solid NT and a big road grader at RT. If we can get a serious big fast OLB who can rush the passer great. After that another solid Guard. Running back is still our least need. Curtis coming back will only keep Washington and Houston on the bench. It will not help us at all. Washington needs more playing time not less.

Theres an obvious need for a true NT and a pass rushing OLB .

    I would say RB too.

But the most overlooked fact, due to drafting Brick and Mangold, is that we need G's bad. Kendalls career should be over soon. Moore is good enough to start but it wouldnt be impossible to upgrade over him. We need some real road graders. and they dont have to be the biggest guys available but we need some real roughneck blockers who blow people off the snap.

Offensive Guard is our biggest need on offense. But I like what I saw from Katnik yesterday. I think the Robertson NT experiment is done. Put in Moore and keep him in until 3rd and long. Then bring in Robertson

we only get man handled during a running play, our pass def isnt terrible, but it def needs help and dyson has been good so far

I'm with Winston that RB is the least of our needs. We need a big time run blocking OL. D Brick is great on the pass block but his run blocking needs to improve. A NT is then the next need because Robertson clearly is not cut out to play any position on the line in this league. He was a waste of a pick and Belly set the bait for Dumbway and Sperm to bite. We need toget a pass rush from somebody other than a safety but I'm confident that during Mangini's tenure we will have all the weapons and the pieces in place to make a run. Anybdy can see the improvement in the CS and once he gets the personel in place watch out. For me this is a year to see who gets sent out with the trash and where we need to improve and I'm confident mangini is taking us in the right direction.

This is how I see our needs:

    1) NT - Moore is alright for this year, but not the long term solution. Robertson isn't cutting it.

    2) RT - Clement and Jones just are not that good.

    3) OG - Kendall's heir apparent needs to be groomed, and Katnick is only good for depth.

    4) DE - Kimo is not getting younger. Need a pass rusher to compliment Ellis and Rhodes.

    5) RB - Blayock is going to be sent packing after this year. And with improved run blocking the young RBs on the roster now will just get better. But a good stud RB would be nice.

    6) FB - Askew is a joke, I know he gets all types of love on this board. But he has had more than enough time to show something, he hasn't. The Jets need a good blocking FB (not a pass catcher).

i pretty much agree with that list, though i think the first 4 can be rearranged. Getting a gamechanging LB pass-rusher can turn this D from good to dominant, as long as we also find another NT. i think Moore will be exactly what we need as he progresses; but we clearly need another mammoth body at NT.

after that, it's a matter of signing a marquee OL (with youth) and drafting one early.

the RB situation straight up baffles me: if we draft a stud, then we most likely have to dump Blaylock and someone else. but who? we still don't know what we have in Barlow and Washington. Houston is good, but seems expendable the way he's been riding the bench. the position seems murky right now, mainly because the OL can't run-block. it'd be much easier to assess if we knew that the OL was blocking well.

    cheers

I think the FO has shown they won't be drafting a RB early next year. With Curtis, Barlow, Blaylock, Houston and Washington all on the team. Even though 2 of them are probably gone after this year(Curtis and Blaylock) that is still 3 deep with no real need to upgrade. I think OG and DT are the biggest needs, followed by DE. I don't think we need LB, I like the group we have, but the Dline needs a "Seymour" at DE to really make it click.

NT - Robertson isn't cutting it and we unfortunately have no one else who will get the job done. We need to draft a good NT next year.

RB - I'd like to see a punishing, Brandon Jacobs clone, someone to change it up and alternate with Houston and Washington. Of course, we had this situation under Herman Edwards in the Curtis Martin-Lamont Jordan combination, but Edwards never made good use of that combo of talent and instead ran Martin into the ground.

Alan Branch of Michigan 6-6 330 lbs DT & Lamar Woodley would take care of those needs

    1. Huge NT
    2. Pass rushing OLB and/or DE
    3 Road Grader OG
    4. Flip of a coin here .... either a punishing RB, FB,TE or ROT or ...... BPA

With two first round picks next year, we could address all these needs in day one of the draft next April. Let's not forget FA.

I'm looking forward to this team as a whole. The CS seems they will only mature with experience.

I agree. But I still do not consider it a need because next year we will have Pouha and Tui back from injury. That will be 3 300+ run stoppers on the roster.

    Can't argue here.

He is; his name is Adrian Jones.

Agreed. Katnik provides versatile depth since he can play center too.

I agree we need a RDE to be the heir apparent to Kimo. However, I disagree that he needs to be a pass rusher. 3-4 DEs and especially those playing on the weakside just need to be big run stoppers; the ROLB can bring the pass rush.

It would be better than nice; it's a necessity.

Why can't we get a FB that can catch and block.
