Since when does a HC NEED to win a meaningless preseason game? You guys can't be serious with this? Please tell
Of course they want to win, coaches are extremely competitive and want to win every game. They don't NEED to win preseason games to the point that they would risk their "starting" QBs in the 3rd Qtr behind a 3rd string OL though.
There are two kinds of "need". One is synonomous with "required", the other synonomous with "desire". _
You are not the kind of player I would want on my team then. Haha. I thought I made it clear, but I said they screwed him in every way, except for financially. He clearly made bank. He also clearly wanted to win a Super Bowl too. He even said so in his Eagles press conference. The Jets did not build that team around him. 2010 was as close as it gets though. Then 2011 began the nosedive.
Lol of course coaches want to win in pre-season, but there are different levels of want lol. For instance, I want to sleep with Jessica Alba very very badly. I also want a cookie.
One of the main theories is that Rex wanted Sanchez to be the starter in Week 1; and since Smith had just played poorly, he could seal Sanchez's victory if he entered and got a couple of nice TD drives. It was probably somewhat of a quick spur of the moment decision where he saw an opportunity to end the competition, but it ended up backfiring.
This was what I was thinking while it was actually happening. I have no idea if it's true, but it's the vibe I had. Geno was stinking it up, and Sanchez came in and was playing pretty confidently. The crowd was heating up as Sanchez was making some good throws, and you could just sense what the headlines were going to say the next day: Sanchez Starter For Week 1, with a picture of Mark holding up the Snoopy Trophy.... Until boom, Sanchez is on the ground.
