I also vehemently disagree with this notion that Tannenbaum "didn't do well in the draft." The Jets have drafted a lot of good players when operating under Tannenbaum.

    2006:
    1. D'Brickashaw Ferguson- Has had up and down years but was a premier LT for most of his career so far.
    1. Nick Mangold- Consistently an all-pro Center, best in the league most years.
    3. Eric Smith- Valuable role player and special team that was time as a successful starter at times.
    4. Brad Smith- Valuable role player and special teamer who was a major part of our offense in 2010.
    4. Leon Washington- Valuable role player and special teamer that was a major part of our offense in 2009.

    2007:
    1. Darrelle Revis- Consistently all-pro CB, best in the league most years
    2. David Harris- Has played at a high level for his entire career, and at a near elite level for 1-2 years.
    7. Chansi Stuckey- Nothing magical but great value for a 7th round pick.

    2008:
    1. Dustin Keller- Key offensive player, leading receiver in 2011 and played at a pro bowl level multiple seasons.
    4. Dwight Lowery- Useful Dimeback and depth player, decent value for a 4th rounder.

    2009:
    1. Mark Sanchez- Many will disagree with me putting him in here, but after watching the 2009-2012 seasons a couple times there is no doubt Mark was a great talent and his confidence and development were ruined by stupid front office moves.
    3. Shonn Greene- Another many will disagree with, but when healthy Greene was a valuable offensive weapon. Not in the explosive sense, but he was a workhorse and made things happen that most people don't realize.
    6. Matt Slauson- A solid starter who was excellent value in the 6th round.

    2010:
Probably the Jets least successful draft under Tannenbaum, although I value Kyle Wilson more highly than most on this board.

    2011:
    1. Muhammad Wilkerson- Emerging as an all-pro level player.
    3. Kenrick Ellis- A good season was hidden behind Snacks' emergence.
    4. Bilal Powell- Another valuable role player who is a good value in the 4th
    5. Jeremy Kerley- Another valuable role player found in the lower rounds of the draft, and clearly an excellent value.

2012: Personally I feel that with only two seasons these players shouldn't be judged yet.

When you look at this list of players, you see a lot of good talent and valuable role players found in the mid rounds. Tannebaums regime was not marred by bad picks, it was marred by trading away too many along with bad contract being handed out. Sure we had a few major misses, but every team does.

    I'm confused by this post?
IMHO Hill would have to not show any improvement at all and those 2 players would have to make huge steps to merit jumping Hill on the depth chart. There's a reason those 2 players were available.

Salas spent all of the previous year on the Eagles practice squad, and Ford's contract was not renewed with the Raiders of all teams. Salas only caught 8 balls in 8 games last season with 0 TDs. Ford in his 4 year career has less TDs then Hill does in his 2 "terrible" years and never caught more then 25 balls in a season.

I'm fairly confident if all 3 players were available in free agency, we would all be pulling for signing Hill.

My point was never really the outcome of players, But more what it cost and where we picked said players usually didn't directly match up with their value.

Trading up for Sanchez and Greene in 2009 is a great example of Tanny not being good with value/position. 2 decent players that we reached for, giving away opportunities to draft more depth and round out the team. Also put us in a bad situation for 2010 draft which, If you think about it could be blamed for the past 2 years.

LOL. Have fun then. No use in carrying over personal issues from a forum you don't care to represent.

The Sporting News is already dogging the Jets. According to their discussion of AFC East, they call the Decker signing "not worth the money" . I had just got the App and now so disgusted with that bull will probably hit delete button.

And also that he doesn't seem to know how to catch a football with his hands.

Very well said. While he has s considerable ways to go in terms of his development, his upside is substantial and he has the potential to be an elite receiver someday provided he is given the opportunity to grow and overcome certain obstacles to his continued growth, some of which are not of his doing. I find the notion of him being cut loose to be uninformed jibberish. His performance the past two years, while giving some evidence of both his weaknesses and potential, is in no way a representative sampling or indication of what he may yet become. His combination of size, speed and strength is not so easy to come by so freely and cheaply. Whether he ultimately achieves his potential to the extent imagined and hoped for by the FO and fans alike when he was originally drafted remains to be seen. To those who believe they've seen enough or suggest he is on or near the ejector seat if he doesn't have an especially strong pre-season or 2014 regular season campaign, I'm grateful the decision isn't in your hands.....

I stopped reading when you said he could become elite.

Stephen Hill will almost certainly never be an elite receiver. That is nothing but a fantasy based on his performance in the underwear olympics. He would have shown flashes on the field by now if he had that type of ceiling.

Stephen Hill has never done anything elite on the football field.

Supporters should settle on the hope that he can become an NFL caliber receiver at this point, being a good one is a long shot, elite? LOLZ

The law of averages would definitely suggest that you are most likely spot on in your assessment. However, I'm inclined disagree with you regarding his having shown flashes on the field. While not reflected in the stats as of yet, to me he has indeed "shown" glimpses of his potential. Perhaps you require a more blatant demonstration while I would argue that he didn't have sufficient opportunity to do so in a manner blaringly self-evident.

Right now, he somewhat reminds me of Robert Meachem in terms of his combination of size and speed as well as his strengths and weaknesses although Meachem has much better hands and is certainly further ahead of the development curve (as he well should be 8 or 9 years into the league). Both are limited in their route-tree repertoire, both have trouble quickly releasing off the line and both have deep threat speed. Perhaps this is highest level that Hill can most realistically aspire to achieve but, I am personally of the mind that the outright dismissal of potential prior to the closing of the career book, regardless of how long the odds, is form of laziness if not cowardice. YMMV....

There's always hoping he can salvage enough of his career to become the offensive Bryan Thomas.
