I know it. Its a ludicrous premise. Especially when you and I and others pointed out several times the last few years when the defense gave up points in the first few series of games. I gess its because of the 3 and outs from our offense. SMH
Huh? What about frank gore? I just went back and watched the TD run in the 3rd QTR. Looks like Coples was double teamed at the point of attack ( LT and FB ). Not sure where in that play he "gives up". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have no evidence of Coples' laziness whatsoever and, as the OP, was merely soliciting opinions and consensus from GG board members after reading Klecko's comments who had an unmatchable motor under any and all circumstances (including when he was injured). However, I did take exception to your comment that he may appear lazy due to build and cited examples of similarly built players whose effort on the field could never be mistaken for laziness.
I really don't feel like re-watching every single game hunting for something that may not exist and I do not have all 22. If you noticed this happening a lot, surely you can remember some examples, or at least the games so I know which ones to watch late. I just want to see it for myself and confirm that it isn't one of those 3+ turnover games where the defense is on the field all game, and that it's clearly an effort issue as you suggest. I've never heard anybody else accuse Wilkerson of giving up on plays, so I'd like to know for sure that you aren't just talking out of your ass. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't have the luxury of watching the entire season over again.
Yeah he's TOTALLY lazy. He should have knocked both guys over, but he didn't put in enough effort! Honestly, the whole "he didn't put in effort" thing is one of the most over used excuses in the history of sports. It's the politically correct thing to say in interviews. After a loss it's always, "they played harder". That's such a load of shit. They didn't play harder they played better. They had better success making plays. There's a huge difference between making a mistake, getting gassed after a long game or misjudging a situation and "giving up on a play". People just have unrealistic standards here. They think that after 2 years every draft pick should be a pro bowler or they are a bust. People wanted to give up on Kyle Wilson. They want to give up on Hill, and even crazier Coples. It's baffling.
Nobody's questioning Klecko's ability and the comparisons are irrelevant. Did he play through a fractured ankle while learning a new position? A few people saying that Coples is lazy does not make it true. Make a poll right now and I guarantee the majority of the board does not say he's lazy. All I was saying was that plenty of people DO mistake his appearance for being lazy. As far as actual laziness goes I haven't seen it. Nobody's perfect and Coples technique was weak when he first came back, but he improved quite a bit throughout the season. You can't really ask for more of a 2nd year guy learning a new position coming off an injury. Just saying.
You can pretty much pick any game after week 3 and find it 2-3 easily times a game but if i get a chance this weekend ill put to gether a few clips for ya. Also for those who cant grab the concept Coples is no longer 280/290 lbs heres a picture of him and sheldon next to each other. Sheldon being a true 290lb'er http://instagram.com/p/ntirAaquM8/
Klecko's comments are usually right-on & a lot of what he says is from his heart & his eyes...because he really cares about the Jets. Now to address the comments ...I actually feel he wants to just see them become more of a force & make more plays. Wilkerson is Jets best DL player. In all fairness to Coples..he played well against Miami, he's also in a contract year. Realistically....U have to see what his talent truly is; he's not the fastest or strongest. He's best suited as DE in a 4-3, or DE in a 3-4....IMO. He cameback from early season injury last season...gotta give him props for that. Just need real OLB's.....2 new pass rushers, like Miami or Seattle has. Football is reverting to street ball 7 on 7....1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi....Pass rusher with speed...NEEDED... Rex stop trying to re-create the wheel. Rex....ur fun, but not #1. Pete Carroll & 49'ers have better defensive players & schemes. Passin' league...U need pass Rushers ??? ...Just keepin' it real !!!
It occurs to me that what Klecko didn't say is telling. He did not say Coples lacks talent, or is not going to get it done in the hybrid role Rex wants him to continue playing in. It's clear from the willingness to be outspoken in terms of what Klecko did address that if he had the view that Coples is not going to succeed, he would have said so. I see it mostly like some others here - an attempt perhaps to light a fire under Coples.
Not sure exactly how the org feels about Coples. But there's rumors of some players getting traded during the draft. To me if they did trade a player he would be at the top of the list.
The recent discussions of going OLB in the draft have focused my attention more than otherwise on what i think is Rex's plan for Coples. The coming season I think is one where Rex will be looking to see how much progress Coples makes in his hybrid role, and how much pressure he can bring. If he stays healthy, and in view of what Klecko said can stay focused, we could see the experiment pay dividends. I sure hope so. The Jets don't need another less than successful first round pick. This is his contract year, too, right? The time has come.
Coples has this year to prove himself. And I think he will. He has the best possible environment around him.
