6'3" 250 runs a 4.38 forty time, led in three different workouts at his position, we have an O-coordinator that worked with guys like antonio gates, Im gonna get ripped for this but, I want us to take this guy at the 4th pick, Imagine how good he will be in the long run, with the later pick, (broncos, or lions) we could take an O-lineman, (Max-jean Giles, Eric WInston, Marcus Mcneill) if we have the lions pick, we will have a shot at D'brick (but it is highly unlikely, because it is the 9th pick) so i would really like to see us take him at the 4 spot, counting on the fact that we will have another first round pick.
Davis is not worth the 4th pick. And who is going to get Davis the ball. For that matter, how will the QB be able to throw your TE the ball if he lying on his back due to a crappy O-Line?
Vernon Davis is going to make some team very, very happy, but it won't be the Jets. That is a pick for a team on the cusp of a championship push, like the Eagles.
Us picking Davis would be the equivalent of the Lions picking any of those first round WRs the past few years. It's just not the time for that move right now. We need to address other parts of the team first. Ah, the Browns comparison is even better.
as much as I like davis he wont be a jet, i saw many of his games at maryland and he will make a team very happy. I just hope he doesn't get drafted by someone in our division. If he's still there when buf drafts i can see them taking him to help out losman or whoever is their qb next season, plus since moulds will be gone they will need someone to throw the ball to and davis would be it. i sure hope someone takes him before buffalo because i really don't want to to see this kid twice a year for the next decade.
You don't build your team around a tight end. That simple. We need to rebuild around a qb and the offensive line.
antonio gates made a very average QB good and a decent offense very good. 4 is a reach though.. only way you take him is if you trade down or acquire a 8-15 pick for Abraham
I'm not going to lie, I would be very happy if the Jets drafted Vernon Davis. How often does a single first round pick, even a top-5, turn an entire team around anyway? Even Peyton Manning needed good players around him to make it happen.
Your right one pick does not turn a team around. But when you have more urgent needs on OL, QB, RB, FB, WR, drafting a TE is a luxury, especially when you have servicable TEs on the team already. Your right Manning did need players around him. BUT the Jets don't even have their Peyton Manning yet. ALSO, Indy put together an outstanding O-Line that has more to do with Manning's success than ANY skill player they have. Someone else mentioned Gates, Gates was not drafted in the first round (I believe). Use the pick on another OL or RB, and build the team from the inside outward.
I'd have no problem taking Davis if we could have a guarantee that Pennington would be healthy and if Houston had done better last year.
