All true. But i recall watching one of our DB coaches going on and on about how great Pryor's instincts are on the field. He just knows where to go and how to get there. Sherry Rhodes was like that too but was afraid he'd mess up his hair so he avoided contact at all cost.
MHO MHO is there no such thing as a fool proof D so if Rex is again depending on our D to get us the SB he is surely mistaken especially in the closing minutes of a game holding a very slim lead like 3/6 points. His thinking is as backwards as his dad thinking was when he to was HC who was all bluster & little substance
I would think you more than anyone else on here would appreciated a great HC with a young talented team growing in the right direction. Guess not.
They certainly added some pieces to the offense. Not sure if Johnson will be a difference maker, but Decker is a big upgrade. I think it still comes down to Vick being healthy, because I think he's the difference between a 7 win team and 10 if he can. Not a big fan of Geno.
Thread title could be true if certain players step up (Milliner, Pryor, Allen, Coples, Davis) we know what we're going to get from Wilkerson, Richardson, Harris, Harrison.
Here are the rankings for all Rex's Defense and our starters (are most relevant players each of his years as Jets coach .. I apologize if they didn't resize well.[/IMG] [/IMG] In 2009 the JETS had the # 8 Rush defense with an above average Ellis, and average players such as Douglas, Thomas, Pace and a declining Douglas. The #1 Pass defense with a backfield that started Darrelle Revis and a platoon of Sheppard , Coleman , Lowery , Smith , and Strickland. They were supported by a lackluster Rhodes and dependably slow Jim Leonhard. In 2010 Jets added the average but dependable Mike Devito and improved the run defense up to #3 with all the players together one more year in Rex Ryans system. Meanwhile the pass defense suffered down to #6 with the additions of Cromartie and Pool. Thus began the "Safety Dance" as personal would change for years to come at the safety positions. In 2011 Jets the Defense limped to 22nd in the league even with the addition of Muhammad Wilkerson. The Pass defense surprisingly climbed a spot to 5th in the league with possible the slowest looking backfield in due memory with Jim Leonhard and Eric Smith playing the parts of Bo and Luke Duke from The Dukes of Hazzard. Revis and Cromartie again had strong years. In 2012 The defense fell to their ass boasting a #26 Ranking as both age and mediocrity began sinking in. About time for a makeover?! The Pass defense stunning all analysts improved to #2 in the league, WITHOUT Darrelle Revis. Cromartie was backed up by an upgraded safety brigade that included Laron Landry. In 2013 The JETS defense rose to the occasion and soared 23 spots to #3. With the additions of Wilkerson, Richardson, Harrison, Davis and Coples paying off major dividends. Their first good season together at an early stage is scary. On paper as I look the chart over from left to right, potential and shear ability .. no doubt this is the most talented defense Rex has had AND they are all for the most part at the same age. That is something he never had as this group will be getting better together. If this years draft class pans out. Who knows, we might not have to wait until 2015 for that GREAT year we want to see. The numbers have shown that strong safety play is a MUST in a Ryan Defense and adding Pryor could be key. Our Offense and Defense go hand and hand and Geno must do his part .. if he can just improve enough now that he has some very capable possession receivers and our running game is a three headed beast .. the chart shows it has payed off!
To be fair though, the Jets coaches are usually very optimistic/positive in interviews. Rarely does Rex or others criticize young players through the media. It happens, but the Jets coaches give the media an ultra positive view on most players.
What hasn't he proven? He is reliable and can keep up with most RB.. What hasn't he done satisfactory to you?
He's not reliable. He's a liability in coverage, and he was shaky in terms of making tackles. The Vincent Jackson play was really good, but he didn't stand out at all on defense. I hope he has a big year, our linebacker corps needs to improve.
Good coverage linebackers are few and far between. His coverage is not bad as far as linebackers are concerned. Davis has a lot of room to improve but coverage is one of his better areas mainly because he has great speed for an ILB.
Quarterbacks completed 80 percent of the passes thrown his way. We need a linebacker that can cover. What does this guy do well? He needs to play better otherwise we should be looking at a linebacker in the early rounds next draft.
I just hope Brandon Cooks doesn't blow it up this year. We really should have drafted him, but Pryor might turn out to be a good pick.
He's with Brees and the Saints. He will blow it up out of the gate this year. If he was on the Jets he would probably have half the stats he's going to end up with. A hard hitting safety improves our team more than a very fast wide receiver.
