I'm not afraid of being embarrassed, I'm pretty much just sick of it (the talk). I dug it at first when Rex arrived and they had a kick ass defense and run game and were a force to be reckoned with. They haven't been that in 3 years now so it sounds sofa king stupid when they're still running their mouths. I'm in show me mode as a fan right now I guess.
Imagine Rex's D with a HOF QB instead of Mark Sanchez? No Patriots fan would ever want that. Fucking toolshed of a fan base.
Depends person to person. I also wouldn't judge what Rex tells the media as equivalent to what Rex tells the players behind closed door. Some people need the positive reinforcement. Your boss calls you the best in front of your team, you work harder to prove to everyone that is correct. Or you could be complacent and think you are the best which taps into your view. It's a person to person, team to team type thing inside and outside of sports. People get motivated in different ways
I have nothing to lose but as a fan I pay attention and hear the bullshit. It annoys me when they yap in July. I want to hear them yap in January and February. Talk is cheap, especially in July. They sound like retards to me when they talk about how great they think they are after being mediocre at best for 3 years straight. i want another fucking bart scott can't wait interview.
At least he had the sense to phrase it correctly. Byz, you're making the case to stop paying attention to anything that is said by the team. Perhaps that's the way to deal with the Jets. Just watch what they do and how they play. Pay no attention whatsoever to anything that is said by anyone associated with this team because chances are, its probably bullshit. So going forward, anything that is said by Rex or any member of the Jets organization should be ignored or given very little creedence? The New York Media shouldn't even bother with post game pressers with Rex as anything he says should be taken with a truckload of NaCl. I'm perfectly willing to just watch the games and totally ignore anything that is said by anyone associated with the New York Jets. If a significant percentage of the Jet fan base takes this approach, if and when the Jets don't deliver they'll find themselves in the same situation the Mets are in. That would be an extremely Cynical fan base with no faith at all in the product on the field or the leadership running it. It will be up to the Talkers to keep what's left of a once fanatical fan base engaged. They really don't have to worry about Homers as they will excuse any issue and accept any rationale as words from God himself. Good bad or otherwise, they will defend the team to the bitter end no matter what. God bless em all. Somehow I don't think that's their target as they're more interested (or should be) in deep pocketed fans aka: Season Ticket Holders and PSL buyers. These people tend to be results oriented kind of folks and you can only sell potential for so long before you have to deliver. Time for the Jets to shit or get off the pot. Just Win Baby!
You really didn't answer the question. Yeah, that's what they sound like to you. Why does it matter enough to post about it multiple times on an opinion forum? You have given your opinion about what they sound like. You haven't admitted why you continue to state that feeling. C, I haven't once said to stop paying attention to what they say. I pay attention to what they say almost all of the time. Except when I can't. I'd be a hypocrite to tell people not to listen to the team. What I am wondering is why people are so concerned with trash talk and why they should stop. That's exactly what I was getting at, and I'm sorry, but I just scrolled through about 3/4s of your response and it was a diatribe that misunderstood my post. Yes, the players and coaches will have to live down the embarrassment of their comments that they made thinking they were great. And that is basically the truth. We don't have to feel the pain of their predictions. I think that you aren't really understanding that, judging upon the majority of your post. We didn't make those predictions. We are fans. Unless there is some physical penalty for fans based upon player and coach predictions, I'm not sure why you are so pained about this.
lol. Sure seemed like I answered to me. You asked me two questions: 1) What do I have to lose to which I answered nothing. I have nothing to lose or gain based on what the jets say or do unless I decide to bet on them which I have a rule against. 2) Why does it bother me? I gave a detailed reaponse explaining that it's annoying to me. As to having several responses about it, what's it to you? One of those was was a response to your direct questions. the rest ... well I post on here a lot stating my opinion on many subjects regarding the Jets. you think I haven't admitted something? wtf?
Byz, it comes down to credibility. In a day and age where so much of sport is fake and cheating and all about the money, there is a need to be able to put some faith into something. When it gets to the point where you can't believe anything at all, you have to ask questions like " what's the point?". Those of us that have invested 20/30/40 years or so into this team have evolved past "blind faith". We'd like to think that the team is grounded in reality instead. When you hear things like "I'm the best ______" without ANY PROOF WHATSOEVER, you have to wonder... When the best player on the team manages to let his play do his talking (Wilkerson) and others on the team don't, questions have to be asked. If an employee came to you and said: "I'm the best _____" and clearly he wasn't, what would you, as his boss, do? We understand you have to have self confidence. But you can't go around claiming titles that you have not earned yet. Perhaps that's a overall issue with our society these days. If I say something is a fact, then it is a fact unless facts prove otherwise. You can have faith in yourself without being delusional. The Jets really, REALLY need to win something so they can have some credibility. Once you lose your credibility, you've pretty much lost it all..
I have to edit this, apparently the new forum not only lets somebody with no posts start a thread, it also lets you submit a response with NO comment. C, what exactly have you invested in this team? I know that champ continues to rail about the team because he buys season tickets, which he then sells to people who believe in the team. Then he tells us about what morning show morons are talking about. I know you are a smart guy, but what exactly is the team talking smack doing to you? This is a group of young professionals believing in themselves. They are basically buying publicity stock on their own performance. What exactly are their comments costing you? Honest question.
Why don't you ask the steelers about that? Tom Brady is 5-1 against a hall of fame QB and the steelers defense, I'm sure pats fans enjoyed those wins.
Talk is cheap, especially in July. They sound like retards to me when they talk about how great they think they are after being mediocre at best for 3 years straight.
I really don't like the fact that my favorite gas station has pumps that last 2 minutes more to give my car gas than any other pump. This is a daily annoyance that costs me money and time. I don't post on the internet about it. Can you say the same about the Jets trashtalk?
Lets see Byz. I remember all those years I used to go to sports bars and have to watch the Jets on the smallest screen in the joint because they weren't good enough to watch even at the bar.(Chicago) I remember wearing my Jets gear and getting all those "I really pity you.." looks. Sad thing is, you can't defend 1-15. It gets really bad when you don't live in NYC but close enough to have to deal with other NFL fans. The Ravens laughed their asses off after kicking the Jets ass. What was the statement " He ain't Montana..".. Thank God for Sanchez going to Philly. At least I can rag them instead of hearing endless "Buttfumble" jokes. I'm tired of the Jets talking shit they never back up. The Jets are like Lucy and the football to use that analogy. I'm just done man. Out of patience. Need to see some ROI. They need to win something.. . 8-8 ain't good enough anymore when you're claiming to be the best defense with the best CB in the game. Prove it or shut up. If this is a brilliant publicity stunt, I'm ok with that. I get it. I already posted that I think even Idzik signed off on this because they need to generate buzz. But when it comes to credibility? The Jets are sorely lacking in that department. They talk, but they never deliver. Kinda like the chick with the great body that never ever gives you anything other than a peek or two.
C, do you think you were the only one that has to deal with 1-15? I lived in NYC when the FUCKING GIANTS were winning championships. With Parcells. You want humiliating? THAT was fucking humiliating. Patience my ass. I have lived through some humiliating times and figured out a way to not act like a twerp. Live through this, man. This is fucking Nothing. This is a drop in the fucking bucket. This is progress. Four years ago? That was progress. But you can't just pretend that you are Cinderella. You sometimes have to find the strength to want to be a fucking titan. Grow a fucking sack. Find the hope.
Yes, with the awesome steamrolling offensive machine the Jets displayed last year we need hope, faith and charity and fans who don't buy into the diarrhea mouth motivating technique...LMAO. BTW any luck finding gold? you look like a 49ers fan.
These are loaded questions. What do they expect the answers to be? "I don't know, but we're not as good as the Seahawks, Panthers or 49ers.", "I'm not the best corner, but I'm ok.", "I expect to be an adequate starting qb. Probably not top 5." I'm definitely ok with Milliner saying he's the best, Geno striving for Top 5 and Pace's declaration. Let's get it.
Demario Davis not buying into to 'best' talk http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/40996/demario-davis-not-buying-into-to-best-talk I like the way this kid speaks - but to be a leader you have to prove it out on the field as well. Hopefully Davis leans on his own words - breaks out and the team leans on his words a little bit more.
