I think it's pretty fair to say that Sanchez was completely mishandled here and might go on to have a decent career. I don't think it was ever going to happen here. It's silly (and pointless) to compare him to Geno though. I am going to root for Geno and it isn't baseless. It isn't hard to see the improvement that he has made already. I am bracing myself for an up and down season in which I expect to see more good than bad from the QB position. And if I'm wrong about Geno then Vick is waiting in the wings. Either way - we can't lose compared to the last couple of seasons.
Geno Leave the trolls under their bridge Definitely not as grim as some think. We are a young defensive team that will have hiccups.
Rockinz, kudos on your pimping Benjamin of FSU. He had a great TC and is becoming Cam's go to receiver. They have become very tight off the field as well and are developing a great chemistry. He's looking like he is the real deal. Looks like I was wrong.
Collins couldn't manage a girl's wiffle ball team. I cant stand him, in fact I love watching him make an absolute idiot of himself after every game the Mets lose. As far as Alderson's success, that was light years away with a bunch of pumped up steroid players. And he's responsible for hiring Collins. So as soon as he was hired, I was, for the first time ever, on a hiatus from watching them religiously and have been ever since. Once these idiots are gone, hope will resume.
Oh I see I have to agree with what all you say here. Sorry but I have my own mind. And many agree with my view so whats it to ya.
Eugene Cyril "Geno" Smith III. Our starting QB, and we are all witness to his era as starting QB so long as it doesn't become an error. Then it would be time for the Vick Vignette. Or god help us the Simms simulation or Ballad of Boyd.
If you go back to what me and Brad was discussing it had nothing to do with Geno making "rookie mistakes". I've said it many times on this board Geno did not make many bad reads and/or forcing throws in to coverage his first year, what you guys are calling "rookie mistakes". Most of his INTs stemmed from him being late on his throws, showing a lack of anticipation which was in his scouting report coming out. If he doesn't get better at anticipating his throws, it won't matter that he doesn't continue to make "rookie mistakes" in year 4 or 5 as he'll be run out of town just as fast if not faster than his predecessor. BTW there have been successful QBs making bad reads and/or forcing throws in to coverage well beyond their rookie years. It's all about what you will tolerate from your QB in comparison to the good. Sanchez as a Jet apparently was not doing enough positive things on the field for the majority of the fan base and the current FO to deal with his "rookie mistakes".
The Kotite era was brutal and yes I was rooting for them then. But you can think what you want. I'll root for players on this team I really like but overall it doesn't matter - they are not going anywhere with Eugene as their QB, Rex as the their coach, Idzik as their GM. Period.
Hate to say i told you so Benjamin still needs work but he will be a stud in the NFL. Julio Jones 2.0
So now I understand why you continue to dump in the NFL Sanchez thread. You're just a hater. Good for you. _
Thanks Tony and Rockinz. I never would have equated Eugene with Geno in that context. I was trying to figure out if the Jets had added someone new in the FO or to the CS named Eugene. LOL
That's ok, I guess you earned the right, but it's still early. He wouldn't be the first rookie to light up the preseason and then flop once the regular season starts. I'm not saying that will happen, but it still could.
I'll be 57 next month. Been a Jets fan and watching them since 1966. Never missed a game. NEVER. But I'm no 'old fart' LOL. I can run the 100 in 12-13 seconds, still play full court basketball and look 15 years younger than my age. Bottom line is, I am sick and tired of these idiots running this organization. Parcells brought some integrity back into this team and it left as soon as he did. As soon as Woody took over, its been a decent try but now they are grasping at straws. Idzik has made his bed and will lie in it having chosen Eugene to QB this team. It will be another 5 years before they get rid of him just like it took years before Sanchez was jettisoned from this franchise. Eugene just wreaks of pure unadulterated EGO. Rex will be fired after this year and a new coach will be stuck with Eugene and the new campaign will be "oh we need to find a QB coach to teach him to be a QB' blah blah blah blah. BTW I like your line about ..... ' keep focused on the players you love and hope for some wins'
Rex is like the Dallas cowboys, all of his fans are still hanging on to the success of his first two years and making excuses for everything else that he does wrong as a coach that actually hurts his team. I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of Rex and Idzik. The jets have a difficult schedule this year, so expect the jets to go 7-9 or 6-10, next year if he is still the HC they will go 8-8 or 9-7 with a weaker schedule. It's going to be like Groundhog Day the movie with him as our HC. 10 years into it, the jets will be a .500 team and have nothing to show for his tenure as a HC. I hope I'm wrong, but at this point into his tenure it's a pattern. JMO
Watching the game now. I fucking LOVE the hit by Demario Davis. I want to see blind side hits on the QB routinely this year. _
I'll be 55 in October. I've been watching the Jets and been a fan since 1966 also. Parcells may have brought a winning culture to this team, but he didn't finish the job, was a horrible GM, and left the team is disarray - a salary cap mess and playing a part in chasing BB to Boston. How you can admire Parcells is beyond me. Frankly, the Woody Johnson era has seen the most sustained success in Jets history. The Jets made the playoffs 6 times from 2001-2010, missing in 03, 05, and 07 when Pennington was injured, and in 08 with the Favre fiasco. The Jets played in 12 playoff games in that 10 year period, which is far more than any other ten year period in Jets history, winning 6, which is also twice as many as any other decade. The Jets played in 2 AFC title games in that decade, also twice as many as any other decade. While I know we all want a SB, or for us older fans, another SB, the team is not run by idiots. If you know anything about the NFL, its that success begins and ends with a franchise QB. The Jets need to find out if Smith is one or not. I am impressed that you already know he isn't, but I, for one, am willing to give him time to grow into one. Because if there is one thing I know, its that you can't win playing "plug and play" with someone else's trashed QB. Vick is a great back up, but I don't think the Jets win a SB in the next 2 years with a 34 year old who has made a living with his legs and who appears to be declining. If he was the answer, he'd still be in Philly with a team that has talent instead of Foles. I also know that, as a fan, you never know when a team will break through and have success. The Jets were not expected to be SB contenders in 81, 82, 85, 98, 02, 04, 09 and 10 but were. The Giants showed that all you need to win a SB is to get into the playoffs often enough and then get hot at the right time. But I digress. Nostradamus I am impressed that you already know the team is doomed for the next five years. I choose to wait until games are played this year to judge this year's team, and to see how the team improves the roster in upcoming offseasons before a make a 2-3 year prediction of doom and gloom. I'm not sure why, if you are so sure of the team's impending failure, that you continue to watch. To me, you are one of those fans that would rather predict failure and be right, then to see the team succeed and have to eat your words. (Don't) enjoy the (lost) season, Nostradamus.
