Let's say there is ZERO interest in Hill. Can't we stash him on the PS? Or is he ineligible? I say ZERO interest bc I doubt he'd agree to that unless it was literally dead end scenario for him.
Yes he's eligible and he will end up on a practice squad, but it won't be ours. That bridge has been burned. He has a reputation as a bust now. That's hard to shake. He'll probably bounce around for a couple years before he calls it quits. I defended him a lot this preseason but I think his career is over. He's got all the physical gifts but he just can't catch. Sad reality. Other teams will give him a look tho, his measureables are too freaky to not take a second or third look.
Who knows .. he could pull a reverse Jeff Cumberland and bulk up to play tight end. He is not a bad blocker though blocking CB's is mad different then blocking Linemen LOL! I don't think he will call it quits after a few years though .. He is way too young and I'm sure he can fool a few teams the way the Jets were .. Worst cast scenario for us is that he improves over that course of time or sooner and we stick our legs in our mouths LOL.
I think there are too many solid football players available that can catch for Hill to find a home in the NFL. He's tall and fast, that's about it.
The Jets PS would be the ideal destination for him but, as already mentioned, that ship has sailed. Note to current players - don't burn your bridges slagging off your former team, you don't know when you may need them again.
Even if we stashed him on our PS, which is highly unlikely considering the comments from his agent, why would we? It would use up a space for someone who might have an upside.
It gives us 17 weeks to successfully carry out the first NFL double hand transplant (see it for free on GAMEPASS). It also protects our investment without wasting a roster spot before we either activate him back to the roster (5% probability) or Ducasse-him to the Canadian leagues (95% probability). This would be no-risk.
It can be done! Seriously though, I think we are past the protecting our investment part. If any team saw anything worth keeping they would have claimed him. Keeping him on the PS would just be dragging out the inevitable.
Why waste a practice squad spot on a receiver that cannot catch a football? Also have you seen the comments his agent made yesterday? I take it that you haven't since this thread was made.
I think Hill frankly belongs on the PS. And did from day 1...It's ideal for him to develop his game. I get it is incredibly unlikely especially considering his butthurt agent. Which BTW, I bet has a little to do with why nobody took a flier on him. He's already a questionable WR (aka a bust), then his agent rips the team that drafted him and gave him every opportunity in the world.
I don't agree with the first part of your post. It reminds of the stupid arguement that the Jets organization "ruined Sanchez". Hill was a 2nd round pick. 2nd Round picks don't go on the practice squad. In the case with Steven Hill as with Mark Sanchez, the Jets screwed up in drafting those guys as high as they did, not in developing them. They just aren't good football players.
