I can't believe how many people want to run around slapping eachothers asses after our "moral victory". Yeah, there are alot of positives to be taken from yesterday, and from the 1/4 season played so far. But to lose the way we did? Not the fact that we lost to the colts, but the way we lost. I hope the team is as pissed as I am and not saluting eachother like some on here or you can forget about beating Jax next week,or having a chance to. These guys are paid professionals, yet some want to give them a pass like it's the first time they stepped on a football field. The defense could have made 1 freakin play in the last 2 minutes and we would have been celebrating a win vs the Colts yet some are content with the fact that they didn't. I know exactly the responce i'm gonna get-New coach, young players, new system blah blah,i realize that. This isn't the SOJ and we ARE headed in the right direction. STILL not an excuse for the last few minutes. The end to the bulls--t reasoning for losses is gonna have to stop somewhere.
it all has to do w/ the coach, if herm was still here and we lost like that they'd be roasting him but they love anyone but Herm. I love mangini and think he's done an outstanding job overall but he cost his team a chance to knock off a top team.
That's just crap. The defense cost us the chance to win by failing to make any plays whatsoever on the game winning drive.
I still feel physically sick about that loss yesterday. I know it was a closer game than we could have imagined and we have done well. But to actually be in a position to win it and then lose it....... I relly can't feel good (yet) about back slapping either. The sooner next sunday comes along the better.
Well...as Phil Mushnick said in the New York Post this morning (and exactly my sentiments) to assume if the Jets kicked the field goal instead of going for seven and not making it ---- to assume the rest of the game is going to unfold as it did is ludicrous. Score affects future playcalling, etc. so to assume the Colts would playcall the rest of the game exactly the same has no credence. If the Jets made the three, maybe the Colts get more pissed or alarmed and Peyton comes out and throws a 70 yard td.....impossible to predict.
The defense gets their share of the blame(so does the coach for going w/ a 3-4 when we have 4-3 personnel) but the playcalling on O was atrocious and the decision to go on 4th and G at the 3 is as idiotic as can be. I give Mangini a pass b/c he's a rookie but this cannot become a habit.
Gus, did you really think we were going to win this game? I didn't. I was hopeful but did not expect a W. All in all, I'm pleased with the performance of a very young but talented team. Sure there were mistakes, ROOKIE mistakes IMO. If the team learns from those miscues and mistakes then it wasn't all for nothing.
I'm sure it won't be a habit. Take the onside kick. Mark of inspiration or irresponsible , it worked so it was an inspired move. If the 4th and goal had worked it would have been the same.
If Herm was here he would have been in his 6th season, so it would not have been as acceptable.. I gave Herm passes in his first year for his miscues. I was a huge supporter of him until I realized that he was not improving in his decision making. Mangini gets a pass for now because he's new. But if his mistakes become a trend, I will not hesitate to voice my displeasure.
Not at first no , but as the game wore on , I thought that our luck was in , and we did have some good calls go our way and made some luck of our own so yes going into the 4th I really thought we were going to win it......whack..back down to earth:shit:
Running a draw on just about every 3rd and long became a habit of our old coaching staff. Would you rather have that? I can see their reasoning behind the 4th down call. Same personnel in the game. Who would be the last person you would expect them to throw to? Definitely Dearth. It backfired, but shit happens.
How was the playcalling on offense bad? They had multiple drives that took huge chunks of time off the clock and kept Peyton off the field. It might not have been perfect, but it wasn't horrible.
fair points, I give him a pass too. i'm frustrated but I accept it and we'll move on, I just want to see him grow from this and I have confidence he will.
This is what i'm talking about. If we lost the game 28-14,then you could say "well,i didn't think we were going to beat the Colts anyway". You could say we gave it the best shot vs an elite team while we are rebuilding. We had this game won. We had it ripped from us twice in 3 minutes. You can't be pleased with that. I didn't expect a W either, but when it was there for the taking with little time and no timeouts,i expected it at that point. I'm a sunshiner always, but i equate this loss to the 04 playoff loss as far as being upset about it.
I see both sides of the spectrum on this one. I'm as devastated about this loss as I can remember being after a regular season loss but I can also see the positives out of this loss as well.I'm proud of this team, I've already had more exciting Jets football this year than I expected all year. We have a HC who actually plays to win the game & can adjust in game. The fact that we pretty much dominated the best team in the league bodes well for the rest of the season. The loss hurts & I agree there is no such thing as a moral victory but it did reconfirm that we are a legit playoff contender this year(thanks to the schedule) & we are alot closer to becoming SB contenders again than any of us thought.
