..today our beloved team did what they always have done, dominate an inferior opponent, which allowed Oakland to stay in the game until the closing moments...402 yds to 158 yds, interception, fumble, 11 penalties for 105 yds, drop of a pick-6.......so I bet you think I am going to trash them.... ...another spin is if we won today 31-3 like we should of, the fans. media, & players would be dreaming of Super Bowls, while we travel up to Green Bay and get our heads handed to us!! so hopefully they watch the game film and realize if they play DUMB FOOTBALL. we are not going anywhere. last thought...can we just rip the Wildcat plays out of our playbook and never use them again!!
I heard Rex was mad after this win If true, I'm glad to hear it- bout time he kicked some azz and stopped coddling his team we need to clean it up or we won't go far
...getting sick of the off-sides and other undisciplined play, and why we running all those trick plays in the red zone??
Something about having a three way tie with the Bills and Dolphins as the Patriots have sole possession of last place makes me smile. The penalties did improve as the game went on and that game would have been a complete blowout if not for the timely mistakes. I think that will improve as the year goes on.
I was so fucking glad that Rex was pissed after the game. If we cut the penalties down to 40 yards instead of 105 and turn it over only once, this game is a 30 - 14 beatdown that includes a freebie TD given to the Raiders at the end. - Rex last year knew the Jets were not a playoff team yet and just wanted them to get better and continue to grow week after week. - Rex this year knows that this team playing clean (low penalty and turnover numbers) is clearly playoff caliber and if things really start to click they could be an 11 - 12 win team. This could potentially be his best defense yet, and without a doubt in my mind will be his best offense he ever had. Good on Rex for laying into the guys even after a win. This is why he is one of the best coaches in the league. He knows how and when to coach a certain way.
Only perspective: Geno 23-28 Mistakes like penalties can be corrected ... D was what we expected against carr Game 1 Young Team showed talent and potential Edit - Hopefully Rex follows through and creates some fucking discipline
Holy crap. I didn't realize Geno was #1 in comp % this week. 82.1%? Pretty sure that Sanchez never hit that. He was also 12th in QB rating and 17th in passing yards. Not bad at all Geno. Keep it up and cut back those TOs and you'll be just fine. Of course Sanchez started out 2012 as the #1 QB, and that didn't last at all. Guess we'll find out. I think this offense is substantially better. Geno just needs to start sliding more. He was wreckless with the ball early on and looked like he wanted to get injured Vick style on some of those runs.
I have been a Rex critic but I too am really happy he made a point to be angry after that win. I think it's an example of him evolving as a coach. He is dropping the press conference elation that he's had after wins. The Rex of a couple years ago would've dismissed the penalties and turnovers as trivial and/or blamed the refs, focused on the positives and had the "a wins a win" attitude. The way he approached this press conference after the game reminded me of Parcells.. and that's a good thing. He is acting more long term instead of knee jerk. That's how a head coach coaches..Beating the Raiders at home should be an expectation not something to pound your chest over and cleaning up the mistakes is crucial if they want to win games going ahead. I am very encouraged by Rex's approach after the game hopefully it carries over to the players.
Nice post. Count me as one in the middle about Ryan, but clear enough to me has been the need for Rex himself to clean up some things, and yes, yesterday was not the day to say a win is a win. He doesn't have to say everyone knows Oakland currently is one of the weak sisters of the league, especially travelling to the EDT to play, either. So he correctly played it down the middle, imo. I expect to continue to have some issues with him, but this is an improvement on his part.
It goes to show that you cant just look at a score and get the story of how the game went. Eagles won by 17. How are their fans feeling today? (Probably great considering their division but nevermind that) Its true though we should've won this game by 20+ points.
Count me in that this should have been a blow out. This was pretty much our last pre-season game and a perfect opponent for us to play considering the injuries to our secondary! The Raiders may not be a top-notch team but they have a descent defensive front which we dominated. 200 plus rushing yards is something I'm sure we will see more than once this year. I also do not like the Wildcat as IMO it could stunt the flow of the game and could get our only backup QB injured. Though I would rather have a Wildcat run by Vick then all his predecessors combined! What I got out of this game: 1. Both Allen and Walls had solid games matching up against quality receivers both capable of burning CB's for big yard catches. A) Walls's worst play = James Jones has the talent to make spectacular catches and did so against Walls who had position (though bad position as Jones took the inside from him thus pushing him to the sideline) and at least got his hands on the ball. So I wouldn't say he was burned. He was going to be burned by Jones in the previous drive but actually made a good play by comitting a holding penalty. B) Allen's worst play = Being called for holding against Streater early in the second quarter. A play which he looked like Kyle Wilson and did not turn his head around. 2. Our offense looks waaay better then last year. It's refreshing to see a backfield both capable of wearing a team down and breaking 20+ Yard plays in Johnson and Ivory. Geno showed more poise in the pocket and, "spider sense" , feeling rushers and scrambling for first downs. The offense was also able move down the field in large chunks of yards. Where I thought we had more of possession type receivers, they did show the ability to rack up yards after the catch. Of course it is only game one and we were playing the Raiders but the improvement was evident in the pre-season. 3. Geno needs to protect the football! Though his one interception was more of having too much confidence in his arm instead of being fooled by the defense, he needs to make better decisions. Also this over confidence seems to have spread to his running game .. Hopefully he settles in and remembers he does not have to make a big play every down, and for fucks sake .. Slide! Our team will not be able to overcome his mistakes against better opponents, but I definately see the improvement and glad he had this game to make those mistakes going forward! 4. Raiders or not , thin at CB or not .. This D of Rex's will keep us in every game so long as the offense can move the ball and hog up time of possession. The front 7 helped our CB's by applying pressure and I don't care who is the opposing QB .. If we can apply pressure , we will have a chance. Now if we can eliminate missed opportunities and mistakes we might have something here!
