Anyone else feel that the ot rules should be amended to allow both sides at least one possession? It seems a little unfair that winning the toss and scoring a td wins you the game without the other team getting a chance to reply.
I know the argument will be defensively you got a chance to keep them out and you failed but it seems a little too much is simply being left to the luck of winning the toss

Indeed... Peyton Manning! Why couldn't we had picked him up?!

Yeah, I've always felt each team should get an opportunity to possess the ball, no matter what. It would never happen, but I have always thought that OT should just be an extra 8-10 minute quarter.

Let's just change the rules for Denver again. Why not? Wes Welker gets suspended for drugs so they completely rewrite the drug policy so he doesn't miss anymore games. Now Peyton Manning doesn't get a chance in overtime so we might as well rewrite the overtime rules.. never mind wanting to reward teams that play defense!

Lol at this being a topic of discussion today. No the ot rules are fine. But I guess when things affect the marquee teams/players it becomes an issue. Interesting VERY interesting.

I was talking about this with my brother right before the Seahawks ran it in. The same way they changed it when Favre didnt get a possession in the title game a few years ago they will eventually change it to where both teams get the ball.

If Nick Foles lost in Indy last week in OT because Luck scored a TD first nobody would give a shit about any of this

I thought it was changed because Peyton didn't get a chance against San Diego in one of their playoff losses lol, I certainly remember more of an outcry then.

I actually like the NFL's hybrid rule. I hate the college football one cause it's not real football.

Sure I brought it up because the game last night put it in the spotlight, but I have no interest in doing the broncos any favours. It goes to the heart of fairness in the game. You play 4 quaters give your all and then lose a game in ot without ever getting a possession that just can't be fair. If the jets lost a sb in ot without getting a possession how would you feel?

Get rid of the TD shit. Either make it sudden death or don't.

I like the rules now that a first possession fg doesn't end it. if anything were to change now I'd life for it to just be the elimination of OT FGs all together.

Before we go any further you really need to google "Sudden Death Overtime" and see what changes were made that most people feel were unnecessary. Of course we could also just go another full quarter and then decide it on penalty kicks.

Get rid of OT all together. It is just more of a chance of a player getting a concussion. It should be about the safety of the players not more time on the field.

I'm fine with how it is now. The Denver defense should have stopped them.

Although I read an idea I thought was interesting, just play an extra quarter and whoever leads after that would be the winner. Football is not about scoring first, but OT is. To keep it more like the rest of the game, one quarter and repeat until the tie is broken. For safety reasons, this probably won't happen.

Still waiting for a team to surprise onside kick to start OT. If you recover, you win with a FG if I read the rules correctly.

My issue is that if the defense cant stop the offense, the team wins, but if the defense stops the offense, they dont win. Now understandably it is about scoring, but this overtime, the same overtime that strips football of its identity makes it flawed. Football is a game of many drives, football is a game of clock pressure, both of which get completely removed in overtime. So yeah it is football, but it is a watered down type of football that should not be determining the game.

My solution, regular season = automatic tie game. Playoffs = 2 quarters (if not 4 but obviously that is asking a lot especially after a full game, but I would break it down to two 10 minute quarters, after the end of the quarter it gets treated like a normal halftime, everything resets)

Or give teams a certain amount of guaranteed possessions. Give each team like 5 possesions, and when that ends, see what the score is. If its tied, do it again.

Or do first team to like 10 points, idk just extend it, its capable of being to short, as we saw yesterday.

I think they should do away with overtime altogether and just have an XFL Scramble to determine the winner.

Why not just go away from OT? Nothing wrong with a hard-earned tie.

I think a nice game of Russian Roulette would be a suitable approach for OT.
