This Sunday could be the last time we face Peyton. I doubt we finish in the same position as Den and we aren't playing them for sure for another 3 years so let's look back at his history against us. Some great games for us and some bad ones for us. we have faced Peyton's teams 11 times in the reg season and 3 times in postseason. Reg season: 4-7 postseason: 2-1 I won't make any comments on that. It's been so long some of our younger posters may not even remember that Peyton was in our division the first 4 years of his career before they realigned in 2002. 1998: at NYJ: Jets 44 Colts. this was week 3 and our first win of the season, Vinny's first start. we had started 0-2 ands things weren't looking good, we had an early fumble which I think Vinny recovered as the groans from the fans came out but I believe next play Vinny hit Leon Johnson on a screen and Leon went 82 yds and the rout was on. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199809200nyj.htm at Ind: after starting 2-3 we would lose only one more time and it was at Indy where we got a glimpse into the future w/ Peyton leading a nice 2nd half comeback. at the end of the 1st half Indy attempted a 63 yd FG, Aaaron Glenn caught the short kick in the EZ and weaved his way through Indy for an incredible TD to put us up 23-10 but we wouldn't score again and Indy scored on a late TD from Peyton to Marcus Pollard and we lost 24-23. Our last loss until the AFC Championship Game at Denver. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199811150clt.htm 1999: Peyton wasn't a rookie anymore, he had a great 2nd year season and we struggled w/ Vinny going down then Rick Mirer taking over before Ray Lucas became the QB but we played Indy tough both times. at NYJ: Ray Lucas got a surprise first start and it looked like we were going to upset the Colts but as we had 1st and G at the Ind 3 tied at 13 late in the 4th but Lucas threw an INT which was returned to our 45 and the Colts burned the clock and kicked the FG to win. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199910170nyj.htm at Ind: another close one which we lost by literally inches. Trailing 13-6 late a would be TD pass went through Chrebet's hands and we lost. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199911280clt.htm 2000: at Ind: this was a year of early deficits and furious comebacks. Again we found ourselves down big, this time down 20-0. we battled back to w/in a TD at 23-15 but couldn't finish the comeback. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200011120clt.htm at NYJ: I remember this being a freezing cold day, it was supposed to be a game where the winner would likely be going to the playoffs. in a reversal we got out to a 20-0 lead and had to hold on, pulling out a 27-27 win and what looked like great playoff position. we improved to 9-4, Indy dropped to 7-6. 2 game lead over them w/ 2 to play. we lost our last 3, they won their last 3 and we missed the playoffs and Al Groh was gone. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200012030nyj.htm 2001: at NYJ: season opener, the beginning of the Herm era. This game gets forgotten b/c of what would happen in real life 2 days later but it was an entertaining game. we were down 31-14 at the half but got it down to 38-24 in the 4th and were going in for a TD to pull w/in 7 w/ plenty of time left but Vinny fumbled and an Indy lineman rumbled 95 yds for the TD to end it. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200109090nyj.htm at Ind: this game was huge for playoff purposes for us, Indy was out of it but the RCA Dome had long been a house of horrors for us. from '92-'00 we had only won there 2 times and it looked like we would lose again trailing by 6 late but Vinny led us on a TD drive to take the lead, I remember a run and lateral to Curtis that was huge but we left Peyton a min left needing only a FG and 2 TOs but the D didn't even let Indy get to midfield and we won. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200112230clt.htm after 2001 Indy was out of the division but we'd meet again in 2002 in postseason: 2002 Wildcard Game: destruction from start to finish, I believe the only shutout of Peyton's career. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200301040nyj.htm 2003 at Indy: this was a shootout btw Peyton and Chad Pennington but Indy would survive 38-31. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200311160clt.htm 2006 at NYJ:a back and forth game, we took a late lead on a Justin Miller KR but we left Indy too much time and lost 31-28 http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200610010nyj.htm 2009 at Indy: the famous removing the starters game, Indy led by 5 midway through the 3rd qtr when they pulled starters and we wound up winning big. 2009 AFC Championship Game: the most disappointing loss. held a 17-6 late in the 1st half but our D was brutal the rest of the way and Indy won 30-17. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201001240clt.htm 2010 Wild Card at Indy: the last time Peyton would play a game as a Colt. things looked bleak after Indy kicked a long FG to take a 2 pt lead w/ under a min left but he left Mark Sanchez too much time and he led us right down the field for a GW chip shot and we were on to NE. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201101080clt.htm some clips: Meadow Soprano signing Nat'l anthem before 2002 WC game 2010 Wildcard game
Good post, junc. 41-0 seems like a lifetime ago. I remember at halftime, the sideline reporter was holding up a huge chunk of turf that was torn loose from the field, that surface was terrible. Wasn't that the turf trays field?
That playoff win might quite possibly be the greatest game this franchise has ever played (not the biggest win). Everything went perfect that day. It was an unbelievable and it had everyone of us believing we were going to the Super Bowl. Sadly Oakland had other plans and John Abraham took the next week off and the rest of Pennington's career was filled with injuries.
The WC game in 2002 was probably the best game I ever attended. I think its the only game my whole family went to together. It was incredible from start to finish. The stadium was a giant party atmosphere and the place was rockin. This was before security at the stadium was total douchebaggery - my mom smuggled in 4 canisters of "hot chocolate" in her mary poppins purse and we had the best time. Best.Jets.Memory.EVER
That's correct. By the end of the season the trays were essentially full of painted sand. I remember watching that game and expecting a "Mud Bowl" -style controversy to materialize after the game. Colts fans just aren't in the same league as whiners as we are I guess.
Gave me the chills watching that video, really seems so long ago. Heres to hoping history will repeat its self
2010 game was great. The Antonio Cromartie kick return is what set that whole drive up. If Cromartie takes that ball out to the 20 or something instead of the 50 it's a different game. That was Cromarties finest moment as a Jet in my eyes, and it didn't even come on defense.
Oh but that evil Mark Sanchez guy was holding this team back. Still cant believe how people didnt appreciate him. He went as the roster went, just like Ben Roethlisberger, just like Matt Ryan, just like Eli Manning, just like Philip Rivers. Put a good team around Sanchez and he will win, no debate. Unrealistic expectations ran the guy out of town.
Not as significant but the Justin Miller kickoffs return game was crazy. It's a shame we lost the game but the stadium was absolutely rocking when he took that kick back.
The only game I was more disappointed in other than that Raider playoff game was the playoff game against Cleveland.. fucking Gastineau..
it was 41-0 a week after we humiliated GB and GB needed that win to get the 1 seed in the NFC so it felt like we were going to do what NE did the year before.
