It will be very interesting, assuming Woodrow fires Idzik, what he does about Ryan. As little respect as I have for Woodrow, it was his first time when he had already committed to keeping Ryan that he then experienced how that affected his GM search. So there's some hope he won't make the same mistake twice. I said some hope. Nowhere near an assurance. Having said that, it has to be some fraction less than even that Ryan is not back next year.
So, describe John Idzik's hires in the last two years and what the impact on the Jets was. Not the players, the staff underneath him. I see a guy who came in and patched a few holes and brought in a former GM he was close too to give him a little more weight at the table. I expected when he was hired that we'd have a blowout in the personnel department with only very high-achievers left standing. Instead we got a few sacrificial lambs let go and the power structure remained. Then we got surprised by more iffy Jets drafts and now of course the inevitable power struggle behind the scenes (assuming that's what's happening at this point.) You can't fix your organization by adding a new figurehead on top of the existing structure. All you'll get out of that is the same results reported differently because the figurehead is different than the guys who preceded him. Do you have any confidence that if Idzik is replaced by a personnel guy and nothing else changes in the personnel department that we'll miraculously suddenly start getting good to great drafts a few years running instead of project lists that leave us wanting?
I say the next HC should be either: 1) The top neurosurgeon in the country 2) The Wizard of Oz. Anyone that can give Geno a brain and get use out of him deserves to be HC.
yea more than likely he isn't going to be anything better than a back up. but still not ready to completely give up on any of the draft picks considering rex has now had approx the same amount of picks with idz as tanny and the same batting ave. there could be some coaching issues holding back some of our youngsters
Again...as a fan..you're asking way too much of me or any other fan. Here is what I would expect of ANY new GM. Real problems to be addressed. Try not to be SMARTER then the other guys. Look at the problem of CB and say "I have a coach who relies on DECENT (NOT LOOKING FOR MIRACLES...im easy) CB play so that he can use his blitz packages. I have a good front 3 or 4...I have linebackers who are very solid against the run..but fail against the pass. I need to get my coach his db's" Thats all I would ask of him the first year. Thats all I want. Instead he went after an often injured CB in Milliner expecting him to come in and stay healthy and give him his year or two to adjust. Failure. I didn't want him to sign superstars and pay through the nose. I didn't expect after his first 2 years to even have his franchise QB. I didnt expect him to have his superstar WR...even in a draft where they littered the board...and we sat there with a million draft picks to trade up. Again...I wasn't asking for a lot. I wanted him to look at his head coach and what he needed to make one side of the ball much better...and he wasted 2 more years in the life of Wilkerson and company because he was smarter then me...then you....then the agents for any available CB. He was so smart that he waited until the well was dry and picked up Patterson..and let that play out like a schoolgirl. He then went on and acted smarter then everyone else reaching for several receivers later in the rounds because again...he is smarter then the rest of the league. Those receivers are either not on the roster...hell...I have no idea where they all are. How, except in Jetland, does that even happen? They are receivers...they come to you in later rounds and you find out they run routes crappy....they have worse hands then you thought..etc...but not us..they are not even good enough to take the field somehow. He drafts a QB who slipped past all the other GM's which Idzik is so much smarter than..goes after a guy who lit up college football the first 5 games playing against the worst of the worst...and then their schedule gets much harder and Smith completely tanks it. Horrible stats...but Idzik, in true Idzik fashion, knows something the rest of the NFL does not...and picks him in the SECOND round. So...I ask you...would him being surrounded by his own staff...cleaning house...would that have helped him? HOW? This notion that we need to see more then 2 years from this guy to exactly understand what he brings to the table is comical to me. Comical. In a last attempt to save face this season, he does what so many organizations have done in the past and reaches out to the team he worked for before and they try to help him save face and give him a receiver who they wanted out...and everyone was supposed to say what? Wow...Idzik just fleeced his former team? And of course there is the state of the cap...and the 22 million he had to hold on to...because again...the genius in him said that the current Jet roster...the 2-11 Jet roster...filled with so many jewels..well those jewels will need to be paid soon. So we put the money in the bank and at the proper time, we surprise the world and have the money to pay all of those diamonds we have..you know...2-11 jewels. Here is the question I would ask anyone that defends this guy. How do you suppose that the GENIUS ...with all of this money and this upcoming draft...which card is the genius holding under his sleeve that will leave guys like me saying come labor day next year...YES...he was right!! I didnt see that coming!! Next year will be year 3...3 years! What exactly does he plan to make people like me look so stupid for even questioning this brilliant game plan. How in year 3 does he get his qb....improve his offensive line which has all of our qbs on the run. How does he improve the CB section...what our his goal for our linebackers who will undergo a pretty big change next year. Like he was a part of in Seattle...the huge question after almost 20 draft picks and 2 years of free agency....where is all of the great young talent we should be accumulating by now....the talent that made him hold on to 22 million to spend on...where is the huge young talent that he slowly has built this team on...and why should anyone think that he will finally have his good year this year. Listen..if everyone thats defending the guy for learning on the fly? Ok...what the hell would one more year of misery do for me at this point in my life. What the hell...but I have seen NOTHING from this guy..not a glimpse of knowing what the f he is doing to build a long term team that will be good for the playoffs every year. I see not one position on this team other then the receiver position (which actually has improved) that makes me believe that by year 4, this team is on its way. Sorry for the long winded response...but I cant imagine one team that was in the AFC championship game for 2 straight years...and then Idzik pops in and we end up with a roste like this going in to HIS YEAR 3.
AND with all my blabbering..the main problem is this..and I could have saved many brain cells by just answering it this way. It all stems from the top....of a total lack of understanding what an owners role is..you are dead on and correct and regardless what they do, if Woody doesnt get it, it will be the same shit all over again.
I think it fair to say that many of my posts are longer than that one. Heh. But in the case of what generally ails the Jets, Woodrow's ownership is at the root of it all. It's the common element. Think of how Herm Edwards left town, and the result was Bradway was NOT fired, but retained, and Herm replaced with a guy purely because he had worked on Belichik's staff. Yeah, but in what capacity? What was Mangini's track record? Think about how Tanny got rid of Pete Kendall with no Plan B. Bender and Clarke were more like no plan at all. Was Woody in on that one? I think so, and if not he certainly didn't blame Tanny for the resulting travesty. We have an owner who does not know how to make a positive impact on the team, but to the contrary makes one bad decision after another, or fails to act when he should. It really is all about our awful owner.
Hill was NOT a Rex pick. He even publicly stated that. Hell, it doesn't even SEEM like a Rex move. Not sure where you got that. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...an-stephen-hill-not-my-pick-for-new-york-jets
I am aware of that, I mispoke. But in general Rex had a lot of impact on the decisions, thats why Idzik was brought in, to end that. Unfortunately Idzik is worse than Rex.....
How can you say that? This guy hands down is an utter nightmare. While those guys were not great, they would have not gone into a season with this roster.. The excuse he's was in cap hell is bs.. Everyone including my nephew knew.. Cut sanchez, Holmes, pace and cromartie. And poof no more cap hell. The only difference is my 8 year old nephew would have resigned cromartie.
The 2012 Jets roster: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/2012_roster.htm Are you just ignoring that or is it amnesia? Seriously.
Would it have made you feel better if I specified "football move" as opposed to what brand of popcorn to sell in the stands? As for the billboard crew, I consider it more as a "fuck-us group"
http://nypost.com/2014/04/12/jets-held-focus-group-to-listen-to-fans-complaints/ does this look like they were talking about popcorn? "The Jets hired Luntz Global to conduct a focus group…." Again.. no charge for our services, Woody.
Idzik just has no idea what he's doing, remeber 8 months ago All the Idzik has a plan! guys? Now there's billboards ,planes with banners, websites ,fan towels all dedicated to the firing of John Idzik ,wow how times have changed
Funny u say that. Today I was re reading all the fights we had with those guys in some threads... There all Mia now .. Pretty comical to see just how adamant and sold they were on his do nothing plan. Legit concerns about idzik is probable the best one lol
