Hang in there guys. You are clearly on the road to rebuilding into something good. A lot of you guys got too hyped up in the off-season, thinking adding Mangini & Co. would equal an instant upgrade. Well, these things take time. Sometimes only a year, sometimes about 3, but don't lose faith now. You were bound to take a beating like this sometime, and I bet the team learns a lot from it, and will correct some of the mistakes. Others will need new personel. You can't bring in all Mangini guys instantly, so be patient. At least you know this regime has a plan. I've watched all your games this season, and it isn't as bad as you think after a bad loss like this. Now, go drink, avoid the papers, and come back strong next week.
Great post. At 12 AM Monday, this lost should no longer matter. Moving on and bouncing back will give us a more accurate feel on our teams' true colors then this performance did.
Bah,sometime you need a game like this. Hopefully we take it out on those p--sies from South Fla next week and get back to 500.
Are you really a Pats fan? You're a good soul. Avoiding the papers is a great idea, but one good thing about losing so badly at this point in time is that the Yankees will still take the brunt of the media's abuse.
Hey thanks Dwater, one true classy Pats fan. We're always happy to have you here. But we still suck!!!
Hey We appreciate the support and its true. Ill never forget when buffalo put a hurting on New England and NE went on to win the superbowl and we all know what happened after then. But lets hope its similar to that situation.
What gets me is that the Jets were looked upon as a team who will fight to the end, and stay in ballgames all year...And they have been... I knew the Jets would lose a bad game, say 28-10 or something like that...But 41-0? That's an ass kicking like no other. I'm at a loss of words.
Yeah, it happens. The Jets are a mediocre team. It has even happened to good teams. In 1979, the Steelers and Chargers were the two best teams in the league. Most football historians believe the Chargers were the best team that year and were probably the best team ever to not win a playoff game (they suffered a shocking playoff defeat to Houston who were without their starting QB and RB, among other key players; Vernon Perry picked off four Dan Fouts passes). Anyway, the Chargers pummeled the Steelers 35-7 on 11-18-79. The Steelers rebounded from that shellacking just fine.
Dirty, I already knew you weren't a troll... LOL! Just a Pats fan with some decent football accumen, like Night Owl. BUT.... this loss was different. Mangini for the first time looked like the rookie coach he is. Jax was having a lot of trouble generating a pass rush prior to this game, and the O game plan over protected Pennington, and didn't put enough recievers into pass catching patterns to take advantage of a D backfield that has holes in it. I was VERY surprised that Schottenheimer did not try to exploit mismatches, and instead played to the strengths of the Jags defense. Pennington tried to force the ball into recievers that were covered. He also made some bad throws. The Jax D line was missing some key players, especailly Stroud, but they didn't run at the Jax D line inside. Mangini has been very slow to realize that Houston (yes, out for this game) and Washington are the best RB's we have. On the D side, the Jets didn't load up the box to stop the run. They ran a straight 3-4 with all those holes in it. They clearly should have moved a safety up, and one of the OLB's in to cover the run. I will say this.... any chance the Jets had at coming back were killed by the refs. Not sour grapes, fact. Both Vilma and Barton did NOTHING wrong on those sacks. Those plays changed the complexion of the game. If the Jets did have a chance, the refs killed it. As fer yer team.... they dodged a bullet. That was a classic trap game, but they did what they had to and won, which is their modus operendi. I'm very dissappointed though. Mangini showed he's a rookie, and I thought he would avoid that. I thought he was further along. His schemes on both sides were not just bad, they were very bad. A win against Miami is almost a must now.... let's see what he does with it.
Exactly what I was thinking. 41-0 isn't a just a bad game, or even a pounding. 41-0 is an absolute disgrace and completely unexcusable under any circumstance.
Don't knock Jax. They too have been building a solid team. You've got to remember, they won't be manhandled either. They almost get forgotten in the grand scheme of NFL teams. And Schottenheimer is a rookie OC too. He'll need to learn on the fly as to adjusting as well. Well, I think he is going to give Barlow more carries. Veteran player and a decent back. And just because a team is missing a key player, others can step in and rise to the occasion. Hello Jarvis Green?! Well, you are in the midst of adjusting to an entirely new D, no? There are bound to be plenty of growing pains and players learning new positions. It is no secret that the Jets can be run on this year. Calls go for and against all teams. Yes sometimes it is your team's week to be burned. Might as well be during a rebuilding year game. And we've had plenty of time, leaders and experience to learn that. And once your guys get it, they too will pass it down to each set of new FA's & rookies. I would look at this season as just that... a season. Don't expect immediate results throughout the season, rather look at it as a collective. I never thought he would show such an immediate improvement, but he has and I suspect the regime will build on this.
We lost 31-0 against the Bills in '03. It happens. Doesn't mean the team lost it's will to fight. Sometimes it is just not your day and things compound.
At least we got burned by the ref's in a game that wasnt close.....If the ref's blew a game winning call like that i would be furious
Yeah it's a pounding. Even good teams take poundings like this on occasion and bounce back though. Just take a look at 2002 for proof of that.
Good post Dirty  ... it really was only a matter of time before we got our arses kicked by someone. As you suggested, this team is clearly improved and on the right track, though this weeks blowout doesn't help highlight any of that. This is the type of game a lot of us expected to see well before week 5 and I'm surprised it took this long to happen ... our early improvements led me (I'm sure I'm not alone) to believe we wouldn't be seeing anything even close to this this season but low and behold, here it is. Not a huge surprise, though unexpected at this point. A loss is a loss is a loss. I'm not sure if I'd rather see a game like this or a game that we could win on the last play but don't. Either way you get one more in that L column. You said it perfect. Herm brought us to the playoffs the majority of the time but never built a dominant team, Mangini and Co seem to have a plan designed to do just that (build a dominant team) and eventually bring us a championship. They're building from the ground up ... if that takes a few seasons of building/learning, it will be well worth it. Obviously this is not a given, and it's still early to talk like this like it's surely going to happen, but it seems these guys are building a solid foundation and do have a plan unlike anything we've seen for years. I trust this front office and believe in them to make good football decisions based on a philosophy that wins championships.
