Dreams of Mariota or Winston turning this franchise around is off the table. Where do we go from here? Free Agent? Trade? Geno vs Hoyer?
I think the Rams and Bradford might part ways, I think he'd be a great pickup. Same goes with the Eagles and Foles. Hoyer is a decent fallback. No matter what's the case, I don't think whoever our QB is next year is going to be our QB long term.
Trade out of the top 8 if you can. Draft best available at receivers, linemen, and corners. Address QB with Free Agency. Hope for the best with a new coaching staff.
Mariota and/or Winston could still be there when we pick (particularly Winston, though a lot will depend on how their game goes on the 1st). Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Even so, we don't want a rookie Qb starting next year. We have to get a veteran, stop-gap Qb ASAP: Sam Bradford is our guy, I hope. Maybe Jay Cutler? Foles?
The draft will change a thousand times so I' m not ruling out drafting one of them round 1 just yet but the odds aren't very good. As of today there are no QB's deemed worthy in the later rounds but it wouldn't hurt taking one in the middle rounds. If I was to choose a FA I would go Bradford. Everyone wants the RGIII from college but he's not the same, Hoyer is what he is, Vick can't play a full season. If Bradford can get healthy he's worth a shot on a show me deal.
Take the Arizona Cardinals approach. Go get a veteran, draft Hundley in the 2nd round. Have a competition between the vet and Geno. Let Hundley sit and develop.
He could be there when we pick, but I could also see Tampa Bay, the Titans or Redskins picking him before he gets to us.
Yes, he will guarantee headlines way beyond the field of play. Woody will just love him. He can be on the front page of every newspaper instead of the back.
I think the approach still has to include at least two new QBs brought in anyway. But if Mariota is indeed off the board... There is still the option of taking a QB at another point. Perhaps it's Garrett Grayson or Brett Hundley in the 2nd... Maybe it's even a guy like Brandon Bridge, Shane Carden in the mid to later rounds. There are (underwhelming) FA options such as Brian Hoyer, Jake Locker, Matt Moore, Ryan Mallet, Shaun Hill. Maybe a trade is even a possibility depending on how the rest of the season plays out. Perhaps Jay Cutler, Nick Foles, Kirk Cousins, Mike Glennon or RGIII could become available. And at his contract status, Geno will at least be back to compete for a roster spot. I think it really depends on who the new coaching staff and FO consists of and what sort of system is being run. Then they'll go out and look for QBs who could be good fits for that. Hard to say who those guys will be, but I'm sure we'll at least see two new QBs brought in.
Famous Jameis in the big apple might work out, might be a disaster. But it certainly wouldn't be boring
