I figured we've had enough crap about coaching searches this past week/weekend I'd throw something interesting to chew on. How about those nifty contracts!!! Man, I wish we could build a contract or something like it into our 9-5 jobs! He he he heeee Here's the full article.
While not a Ricky Williams/NO Saints Blunder...a pretty decent size blunder...especially when you consider Golden Tate III as well. How much do you think the Seahawks would like to have that do over. He's on the Jets now and I REALLY hope they figure out some way to keep him and he figures out some way to stay "sane" the rest of his career. I mean...he's not a stupid guy. He has got to know this is his last stop. He makes it here or he's out of the league...or in the CFL.
It's not so much about him saying "sane" its about teams figuring out how to use him, if even possible. He's a tough guy to find a place for in the NFL. He's a tweener and not a very good route runner. He'll never be a top shelf WR but at the same time he's a guy you want to have the ball in his hands. Minny struggled with figuring out how best to use him at times, Seattle never figured it out at all, never tried maybe, but they didn't need to and the Jets struggled on how best to use him as well- worse than Minny. He's a luxury player. I believe his role in this league is on a team with a high powered spread passing attack as the 3rd X-factor option. New England, Philadelphia, the Saints.. thats where he would best be utilized. In Philadelphia and the Saints.. think Darren Sproles type role, only a better receiver. That's the position he needs to play. Spread the defense way out and let the big boys take the top off the defense and let Harvin do damage underneath. I wouldn't be against the Jets letting him walk. It depends though. Right now there are two many question marks- we don't know who will coach this team/what system, anything yet. So I am not going to say they should let him walk just yet. If they draft Cooper the Alabama WR and pair him up with Decker and grab a coach or OC that wants to run a spread system, I'd be all FOR keeping Harvin. If they want to design a traditional run between the tackles, with the occasional shot deep and have to have Harvin as the top option, similar to this year. Let the guy walk- not worth paying him because that's not how to use him.
I don't think calling him "not a very good route runner" is accurate. I also don't think Minnesota struggled to use him. I don't think we struggled all that much either, we just didn't have a QB that could get him the ball. Minnesota put him on the outside and let him burn his way downfield and we did the same a few times. I can recall at least 3 bombs that Geno should have connected on for TDs. One in the Pats game especially. And he did connect on a bomb in the Minny game. I think it's clear the way he should be used: short routes that give him running room and outside when you know Decker is going to be the one drawing double coverage and the defense is playing man. Seattle never tried to figure it out and to their credit, they shouldn't have. They kind of screwed the pooch by making him what they made him considering the success Minnesota had with him his first few years running actual routes. But when you have Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson, you cater to them before anyone else. I hope Percy is back because with him, Decker and a good QB I think we could have something good going. Imagine if we add Cooper? That's two guys in Cooper and Harvin that can be a threat in the flat, make things happen with little amounts of room on a slant or get downfield on a deep route. And again, look at the ages of Harvin, Decker, Amaro, Kerley and god willing, Cooper. The oldest is 28 and that's Decker. I would love nothing more than to have that group of skill guys grow around a young QB...and so would whichever QB we end up going with.
Only way t I keep harvin is if he restructures he isn't worth 12 min or wat ever a year since he can't stay healthy
I have to agree about Percy Harvin. When given the chance on this team, he showed plenty of ability to be an outside threat and made some excellent plays. But he's such a dynamic player that you'd be missing out if you didn't give him those jet sweeps, screens and other creative ways of getting the ball. Seattle clearly seemed to under-utilize him and as an example (though admittedly not a perfect one), look at Golden Tate on Detroit this year. I love the idea of Cooper-Decker-Harvin at WR though.
Not to mention he hasn't put up big numbers since his Vikings days, and even then his numbers were ok because of Bret Farve and he never had a thousand yard season .He isn't worth close to that number for end a rounds and punt returns and 25 catches a year http://www.nfl.com/player/percyharvin/80425/careerstats
I wanted us to sign Tate so badly this off season,he had a huge year 99 catches 1,300 yards ,Of course there's a real QB and offense in Detroit but I think he could have had a solid year with us .People were screaming at me from there mountain tops about how Kerley is our Golden Tate ........yea I don't think so
Tate had an great year. I didn't realize how good he was. I wish he was here. Ideally Decker and him would've been a great pair this year but even signing him instead of decker would've been a better plan
Need an Offensive line so Geno can have the time to get the ball to these WR's Maybe we can pick up Bulaga from Greenbay and use this draft on Offensive linemen a little more. At least with a few high picks. Dont think either QB will be there for us which is really fine with me. I am hoping Cooper falls to us, Decker / Cooper / Kerley / Amaro
omg imagine him playing edleman or Amendola's role... he's way tougher, and faster, and more athletic then them... scary stuff.
Ugghhh...I just yaked in my mouth thinking about it... BUT, would be a very NY Jet thing to happen. LOL
Good write up but Harvin sees himself more as the WR that takes the top off, not the Slot guy who benefits. I believe when Seattle moved him to the slot is when things went south. Almost identical to Santonio Holmes. Holmes could have been amongst the best Slot WRs but he saw himself as the next Megatron catching highlite TDs on ESPN, not the slot guy moving the chains on 3rd and 6. "Sane" for Harvin would be moving to the slot and liking it.
