So you want to go somewhere between 6-10 and 8-8 to draft an inferior qb in 2016? Winston and Mariota are lightyears better than the crap in 2016. Even if there was some consensus #1 pick QB, if we take a mediocre qb like foles, we would never have a shot at them since we'd have the 6th-12th pick. Trade up for the QB this year. No point in trading for a mediocre qb like Foles
Foles is a good player. I don't care what system you're in. If you can throw 7 TDs -- I know it was against the Raiders -- in an NFL game, you are above average at the very least. He's something in between the ridiculous 27 TDs / 2 INT season and the disappointing year he had in '14. Keep in mind that he had Desean Jackson at his disposal in '13 and the fact that the OL was decimated by injury last year.
THANK YOU for mentioning DJax. McCoy also had a TERRIBLE start to the season in 14. He couldn't crack 50 yards. By the time he really got it popping Foles was hurt. Philly had a very different O in 14 from 13. That being said, I'm most excited about the package of picks we'd get. If we keep Mariota or get the picks/Foles, it's a good outcome.
Because you entice the Eagles on a deal by telling them they don't have to give up as much if they throw in a QB who if they are investing so much in a trade up for Mariota, would be a no.2 QB. Philly might not be cool with trading a 1 this year, 1 next year, 2 this year, 2 next year and another pick. They might be fine with a 1 this year, 1 next year, 2 this year and Foles however, it saves them draft picks and it is also a good will gesture done by Kelly and the Eagles to send Foles out of conference(Though Jets and Eagles clash this upcoming season) and in a place where he has a shot to win a NFL starting QB job rather than be Mariota's mentor. Last thing Foles and his team want is Mariota in Philly and Foles staying as an Eagle....because it will be only inevitable until Foles loses his job and with his rookie contract coming to an end (By I believe) the end of the 2016 season, Foles NEEDS to play to get himself a nice contract. Last thing Team Foles wants is a Brock Osweiler/Ryan Mallett scenario where a QB is wasting away years as a backup and losing a chance to demand more guaranteed money/years. Unlike those two Foles has much more experience but if Mariota does become an Eagle and Foles stays put, it will be only a matter of time until Chip's boy gets the nod and Foles is left mentoring Mariota and wasting away.
Sanchez didn't beat Foles out. Some people are so stupid. He got injured, and Sanchez was forced to start. Foles recovery took longer than expected too. Also, for a guy with about 2ish years of starting experience, he is going into his 4th year only, which is great for win now, as well as high potential still. The dude has a 94 QB Rating for his career. Ninety-four. Whine and complain about how a QB Rating means nothing, but it does mean something. I would rather have a proven QB in Foles, with a lot of good draft picks, as opposed to Mariota who is a big question mark. However, I would honestly be happy either way.
Sure, its not like Teddy Bridgewater slid to the bottom of round one faster than you could say Dan Marino.
God. If Kelly doesn't win the SB with all those Oregon players..... I will never be able to step in Philly. Well. Not likely going to go there any time soon anyway.
I can almost bet the Eagles trade with Washington if Mariota is there at 5 and as usual we get screwed at least two different ways..what else is new? I realize it's the same division for them but Washington would take the talked about deal in a minute I think.
Because Foles has value to the Jets and not the other teams. Foles plus less picks would get traded to Jets, while the other teams would want additional picks. Trading Foles, a #1 and #2 is easier for the eagles to swallow than several #1 picks. The Redskins also got burned a few years ago from RG3, so they arent giving their pick away especially to a rival.
He is a ProBowl QB who has proven he can get the job done. He is also the best available QB. If Mariota is there at six, we keep him or trade for Foles, and a bunch of draft picks. (I would want the 2015 1st rd, 2016 1st rd, & 2017 2nd rd, to move all the way down to the 20th pick.)
Picture the Jets unloading 3 1st rounders to the Dolphins, and them giving back a potential franchise QB to rule the division. Either way you shake it, it's a 50% chance one division team gets screwed for years to come. This isn't baseball, it won't happen. Now, if you change your scenario to Oakland, you have a serious concern.
I'm personally still very skeptical this type of trade can even happen. However, if it did, it's almost a no brainer to grab Foles in the trade. He's still young, and if the CS feels like they can throw all their eggs in that basket to develop him, it's the way to go. I find it funny that some people on here are questioning a guy that had 27 TDs and 2 INTs in 2013, yet some of the same people are touting Matt Moore who had one average year in 2011.
Because we might have the worst starting QB in football in Geno if he ain't the worst he's in the discussion. Foles would be a huuuuuuuuuge upgrade over what we have now. Beggars can't be choosers.
Those same people are backing Smith after one good game, and the leagues worst QB rating over the last two years..
Here are the facts. 1. Foles just turned 26. He has played in 28 NFL games with an average QB rating of 94.2 2. He has 46 passing tds and 17 ints for his career. 3. The Eagles were 6-2 with him as starter before he got injured. He was then replaced by Sanchez because of injury not performance. The above three statements are not up for debate. The debate is Mariota's potential upside vs Foles upside. Foles has proven he can play in this league, and based on his stats I'd say at a high level. Are the Jets a better team with Mariota or with Foles and two additional picks? Originally, I was wanted to keep Mariota and still will be happy if we draft him. However, the Foles trade with a 1st and 2nd round pick is looking for attractive. Foles would be a major upgrade over Smith. The Jets would then have picks #20, #37, and #52 to add starters. This coupled with a few free agent additions puts the Jets in the playoffs and makes them a good team for the near future.
On Foles as a system QB, didn't he also start, as a rookie, when Vick got injured and with Marty as OC? I think he also looked a lot better for the Eagles then than Geno has done with the same OC for us. I don't think any trade with Chip is viable without Foles and he's better than any FA out there
Foles is in the picture because the Jets need to have some hope at QB alongside the overall value that a trade down would represent. If they don't get Foles you're looking at Geno as the presumptive starter at QB next season and that's a scenario that just doesn't fly along any of the vectors the off-season is likely to take.
