Just f-ing great. Going to take an hour to get in the stadium this week... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/10/18/stadium.threats.ap/index.html?cnn=yes Government doubtful of NFL threats Posted: Wednesday October 18, 2006 4:00PM; Updated: Wednesday October 18, 2006 4:13PM WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Web site is claiming that seven National Football League gridiron stadiums will be attacked with radiological dirty bombs this weekend, but the U.S. government on Wednesday expressed doubts about the threat. The threat, posted Oct. 12, was part of an ongoing Internet conversation titled "New Attack on America Be Afraid." It mentioned NFL stadiums in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland, where games are scheduled to be held this weekend. The Homeland Security Department alerted authorities and stadium owners in those cities, as well as the NFL, of the Web message but said the threat was being viewed "with strong skepticism." Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said there was no intelligence that indicated such an attack was imminent, and that the alert was "out of an abundance of caution." "The department strongly encourages the public to continue to go about their plans, including attending events that involve large public gatherings such as football games," Knocke said. The FBI also expressed doubt about the threat. The nation's alert level remains at yellow, signaling an elevated risk of an attack. The threat level for airline flights is at orange, a higher level, where it has been since a foiled plot to bomb U.S.-bound commercial jets was revealed on Aug. 10.
Pssh..That report is OBVIOUSLY bogus. There are NO NFL stadiums in New York. Unless they mean Buffalo...
:rofl2: Yeah, they ain't exactly attacking the power houses of the NFL either; Miami, Cleveland, Oakland, Houston. Most of those buildings will be empty...
"New Attack on America Be Afraid." Is there any more story on this? That article seemed to be lacking.
I've always felt having 70,000+ in one place would be an enticing target. I admit I look twice when a plane flies over a stadium I'm in, ever since 9/11.
This sounds like is BS, but either way, no matter what I was planning on going to the game, Im going to the game and this BS isnt going to stop me, even if it was a legit threat. GO JETS!
I'm sure everyone will be OK. Hopefully these losers are either kidding or will be caught. Careful guys
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6075032 Government skeptical of threat against NFL stadiums Story Tools: Print Email Blog This Associated Press Posted: 6 minutes ago WASHINGTON (AP) - A Web site is claiming that seven NFL football stadiums will be hit with radiological dirty bombs this weekend, but the government on Wednesday expressed doubts about the threat. The warning, posted Oct. 12, was part of an ongoing Internet conversation titled "New Attack on America Be Afraid." It mentioned NFL stadiums in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland, where games are scheduled for this weekend. The Homeland Security Department alerted authorities and stadium owners in those cities, as well as the NFL, of the Web message but said the threat was being viewed "with strong skepticism." Officials at the NCAA, which oversees college athletics, said they too had been notified. Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said there was no intelligence that indicated such an attack was imminent, and he said the alert was "out of an abundance of caution." "The department strongly encourages the public to continue to go about their plans, including attending events that involve large public gatherings such as football games," Knocke said. The FBI also expressed doubt about the threat. "While the credibility of the threat is questionable, we have passed the information on because it has been carried in some open source reporting," said FBI spokesman Richard Kolko. He said the FBI was discussing the threat with the NFL as "part of our routine discussions this week." The nation's alert level remains at yellow, signaling an elevated risk of an attack. The threat level for airline flights is at orange, a higher level, where it has been since a foiled plot to bomb U.S.-bound commercial jets was revealed on Aug. 10. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said stadiums around the country "are very well protected through the comprehensive security procedures we have in place, including secure facility perimeters, pat-downs and bag searches." Officials were made aware of the Web posting on Oct. 16. The threat was timed to be carried out on Sunday, Oct. 22, marking the final day in Mecca of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month. "The death toll will approach 100,000 from the initial blasts and countless other fatalities will later occur as result from radioactive fallout," according to a copy of the posting that was obtained by The Associated Press. The bombs, according to the posting, would be delivered to the stadiums in trucks. All but one of the stadiums - Atlanta - are open-air arenas, the posting noted, adding: "Due to the open air, the radiological fallout will destroy those not killed in the initial explosion." Explosions would be nearly simultaneous, the posting said, with the cities specifically chosen in different time zones. The posting said that al-Qaida would automatically be blamed for the attacks and predicted, "Later, through al-Jazeera, Osama bin Laden will issue a video message claiming responsibility for what he dubbed 'America's Hiroshima."' Tony Wyllie, the vice president of communications for the Houston Texans, said the team had been in contact with the NFL regarding what security precautions should be taken for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In Indianapolis, where the Colts were preparing for a home game this weekend, head coach Tony Dungy said, "I've been waiting for this to happen for a couple of years now and you try and handle the security and put it out of your mind." "We'll let the security people do their job, and we'll do our job," Dungy said. "We've got a lot of confidence in NFL security and our own security here." Amy Trask, CEO of the Oakland Raiders, said, "We work closely with a number of governmental agencies, including the FBI, and with the NFL on an ongoing basis." Stacey Osburn, associate director of public relations for the NCAA, said the organization passed the warning to members "so that they may take the appropriate precautions." The postings were made on a Web site dubbing itself "The Friend Society," which links to various online conversations and off-color cartoons. Authorities traced the site's Internet provider back to Voxel Dot Net Inc., which has support and engineering staff based in Troy, N.Y. A man who answered the phone at Voxel, who declined to give his name, said he was unaware of the posted threat on the Web site and refused further comment. The author of the threats, posted at 9:31 p.m. EDT on Oct. 12, identified himself online as "javness." "In the aftermath civil wars will erupt across the world, both in the Middle East and within the United States," javness wrote. "Global economies will screech to a halt. General chaos will rule." Fellow online posters sounded skeptical about the claims. "This isn't something you should joke about," a poster identified as "Kim Possible" wrote in response almost two hours later. "If you are (serious) about this may I see your sources. Unless you're a psychic." The Friend Society???
Yeah... I'm going to blow yer house up on Saturday. Just figured I'd let you know in advance. Riiiight.
I want to know why anyone would complain about how long it will take to get into the stadium? This is a life and death matter... Yes, I bitch waiting in line at the airport. But that's because I am in the security business, and I know how poorly our security there is being run. However, in this case - with a posted threat - just leave a little bit earlier for the game, and let them check you - and hope they do their jobs...
Terrorism: 'The Friend Society' Website Posting Claims 22 October 'Dirty' Bomb Plot Targeting Football Stadiums in Seven US Cities On 16 October 2006, a posting on an English-language website located at www.thefriendsociety.com said that "dirty" bombs, delivered in trucks, will be detonated outside stadiums at NFL games in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland, and Cleveland on 22 October. The content of the website, which requires registration to post, is sometimes crude and contains none of the hallmarks of jihadist websites. The threat appeared as part of a thread entitled "New Attack on America Be Afraid" that included a rambling conversation on a variety of topics. The thread began on 18 September at 3:22 AM. when a participant called "ALEX" posted the following comment: " http://www.canadafreepress.com/2006/...iams091606.htm an interview w/ Abu Dawood, the newly appointed commander of the al Qaeda forces in Afghanistan Abu says: "He is an American and a friend of Muhammad Atta, who led 9/11 attacks five years ago. We call him "Jaffer al Tayyar" ["Jafer the Pilot"]; he is very brave and intelligent. Bush is aware that brother Adnan has smuggled deadly materials inside America from the Mexican border. Bush is silent about him, because he doesn't want to panic his people. Sheikh Osama bin Laden has completed his cycle of warnings." On 12 October at 9:31 PM, a participant called "javness" posted comment #36 which contained the threat. The text of the posting follows: "On Sunday, October 22nd, 2006, there will be seven 'dirty' explosive devices detonated in seven different U.S. cities; Miami, New York City, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland. The death toll will approach 100,000 from the initial blasts and countless other fatalities will later occur as result from radioactive fallout. The bombs themselves will be delivered via trucks. These trucks will pull up to stadiums hosting NFL games in each respective city. All stadiums to be targeted are open air arenas, excluding Atlanta's Georgia Dome, the only enclosed stadium to be hit. Due to the open air, the radiological fallout will destroy those not killed in the initial explosion. The explosions will be near simultaneous, with the cities specifically chosen in different time zones to allow for multiple attacks at the same time. The 22nd of October will mark the final day of Ramadan as it would fall in Mecca. Al-Qaida will automatically be blamed for the attacks. 'Later, through Al-Jazeera, Osama bin Laden will issue a video message claiming responsibility for what he dubbed "America's Hiroshima." In the aftermath civil wars will erupt across the world, both in the Middle East and within the United States. Global economies will screech to a halt. General chaos will rule." I guess the idea is that they want to blow up trucks outside of the stadium, not inside, which isn't all that hard to accomplish if this were true. getting bombs inside would have to be a "Sum of all fears" type job. But outside? If it were a dirty bomb, would be effective and easy to do. I'm usually the first to share my opinion that these scare tactics and terrorism threats are all political and the modern way of keeping the sheep in line, but i will admit that since 9/11,i ahve always thought that an NFL game would be an easy and achieveable target. I'll be there Sunday with the homies, and we''l be puttin back beers and enjoying the day. Now that this "threat" is out in the open, there had better be hawkeyes everywhere protecting and doing their job, because if not, unlike 9/11 this threat is now public knowledge
Because it is a joke. We are forced to wait in long lines for nothing. There are no metal detectors, they barely pat you down (and rarely check women) and funnel you through one of about 4-5 lines open at each gate. You can easily smuggle almost anything you want into that stadium. If they want to do it right, hire more people, get some medal detectors and bomb sniffing dogs and do thorough searches. Then I wouldn't mind waiting the extra half hour; the current system is a joke. Besides with this threat they say the trucks will blow outside the stadium so I doubt any additonal security going into the stadium would help anyway...
 The security at the meadowlands is more worried about taking the caps off of your water bottles than actually stopping any real threats....
They did get a bottle of JD off me at the New England Monday nighter at the end of last season. Might have saved my life, I had enough anyway.
Actually this is a complete misquote. What they really said was DirtyWater is trying to go to a game in one of those cities this weekend, and may end up sleeping in his truck with a blowup doll. Friggin gossip tree.....
